The 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback blends the practicality of a small SUV with the efficiency and driving dynamics of a compact sedan. Pricing starts at $26,235.
In an SUV-dominated world, Kia has given us an unexpected gift in the 2026 K4 lineup – this all-new hatchback version. Savvy drivers already know the appeal: A hatchback offers the practicality and cargo space of a small SUV while retaining the enjoyable and efficient driving manners of sedans. Hatchbacks really are the best of both worlds.
They are also getting rarer these days, which is why we’re glad to see this one. Like its sedan counterpart that we review separately, the Kia K4 Hatchback brings loads of tech, features, and value to compete with hatchback versions of the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda3.
We’ve logged hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of compact cars, including the Kia K4 Hatchback.
The 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback is all new. It follows last year’s introduction of the K4 sedan.
The 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback has a starting sticker price of $26,235, with the range-topping K4 Hatchback GT-Line Turbo kicking off at $30,135. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $735 to $835 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.
MSRP | KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.) | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|
$26,235 | $25,500 | |||
$27,235 | $26,500 | |||
$30,135 | $29,300 |
Whereas the Kia K4 sedan offers five trims, the K4 Hatchback is available in three, and its lineup starts at the higher EX. This means the K4 Hatchback starts at higher price point than the sedan, but it’s still quite a good value with a base price of $26,235, including destination fee. As with the K4 sedan, the K4 Hatchback undercuts competitors, hatchback versions of the Honda Civic, Mazda3, and the Subaru Impreza, which is now only sold as a hatchback. The Toyota Corolla Hatchback starts slightly below the K4 Hatchback.
Before buying a new K4 Hatchback, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Kia K4 resale values are about typical for a compact car, but below those of the Honda Civic. Recouping more money when you sell a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on your next one.
It shouldn’t come as a shock that the new Kia K4 Hatchback drives just as well as its sedan counterpart, since each has the same powertrain choices. It’s actually just as good — if not better.
That’s because of its size. While the K4 sedan isn’t exactly big, the K4 Hatchback is even tidier at 174.4 inches in length, about 11 inches shorter than the sedan. Yet the wheelbase – the space between the front and rear wheels – is the same as the sedan. Why does this matter? Because it means parking is a breeze, and the hatchback K4 is a bit more fun to fling around corners.
As with the sedan, the majority of trims – here two out of three – use a 147-horsepower 4-cylinder engine that does the job adequately while returning good fuel economy. Drivers seeking more zest can go for the GT-Line Turbo model with, you guessed it, a turbo engine. With 190 horses to play with, we’ve found this version of the K4 Hatchback is lively and fun. It also benefits from an 8-speed automatic transmission vs. the continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the other trims.
As with the sedan, all models are front-wheel drive. If you want all-wheel drive, look to the Subaru Impreza or Mazda3 Hatchback. The Mazda3 and high-performance Toyota GR Corolla also offer a manual transmission with their hatchback goodness.
Fuel economy
The 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback earns an EPA-rated 30 mpg combined in city/highway driving with the base engine. Opt for the turbo engine and that number drops to a still-decent 28 mpg. If fuel economy is a priority, you might want to check out the Kia Niro hybrid or the Toyota Prius hybrid.
We’d usually begin any description of an interior up front, but the K4 Hatchback’s headline feature is, arguably, it’s hatch. Behind the rear seats is 22.2 cubic feet of space, which is nearly 8 cubic feet bigger than the K4 sedan. But the real magic happens when you fold the seats. Do so, and you create 59.3 cubic feet – that’s as much as a smaller SUV.
Up front, we’ve found the K4 Hatchback’s space accommodating. A trio of screens dominates the dash – a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen, a corresponding 12.3-inch digital gauges cluster that’s optional or standard in GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo, respectively (a 4-inch unit is standard), and nestled between those, a 5-inch screen for climate. Yet for all the touch-based screens, we like that there are still plenty of physical dials and buttons. Changing temperature, fan speed, and volume, for instance, can all be done with a flick of a switch or dial.
We found the front seats comfortable for long and short drives alike, and appreciate that getting into gear – literally – is easy thanks to a hefty transmission lever. There’s no odd dial or buttons to figure out here.
Despite the K4 Hatchback being nearly a foot shorter than its sedan counterpart, rear legroom is the same and ample at 38 inches. If you want rear air vents for your passengers or pets, though, you need to step up to the GT-Line Turbo.
As with all Kia models, we must laud the brand’s unbeatable warranty that accompanies all its cars: five years/60,000 miles basic coverage, and 10 years/100,000 miles for the powertrain. It’s hard to put a price on a decade of assurance on the most worrisome part of a vehicle. We appreciate that every K4 Hatchback comes well-equipped. Because it starts at a higher trim level than the sedan, that means even a base K4 Hatchback EX gets niceties such as faux leather upholstery, heated front seats, and dual-zone climate control.
For our money, we would spend $1,000 more for the K4 Hatchback GT-Line, which adds features like a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 18-inch wheels and multi-link rear suspension, and paddle shifters. Going full-kit with the GT-Line Turbo and optioning the Technology Package brings incredible tech like Kia’s real-time Blind-Spot View Monitor system and 360-degree surround view with a virtual image of the car and its surroundings. This kind of tech still hasn’t made it to some luxury cars.
As with the K4 sedan the base engine in the 2026 K4 Hatchback is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit making 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. It uses a continuously variable transmission. GT-Line Turbo models are blessed with a 1.6-liter turbo 4-cylinder making 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque and uses an 8-speed automatic transmission. All 2026 K4 variants are front-wheel drive.
