The 2026 Kia Carnival is powered by a 287-horsepower V6 engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Even when full of passengers, we’ve found the Carnival offers ample acceleration. Except for the notably slower hybrids in this class (Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid), the Carnival’s merging and passing power is on par with the rest of the minivan segment.
We found the Carnival well suited for family hauling duties. We’ve tested it (full of children) running errands around town and on longer highway trips and came away impressed with no complaints.
The automatic transmission shifts gears sweetly, the steering is easy yet precise, and the brakes feel confident without being too sharp. Meanwhile, the suspension has a just-right balance of comfort and agility for a family hauler.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Kia Carnival is rated at 21 combined mpg, one mpg worse than the Honda Odyssey and the front-wheel-drive, non-hybrid version of the Chrysler Pacifica. The hybrid Toyota Sienna is much more efficient at 36 mpg, and the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid can travel up to 32 miles on electricity alone and gets 30 mpg once the battery has been drained. Meanwhile, the hybrid version of the Carnival returns 33 combined mpg.

Revamped styling from last year evokes Kia’s futuristic approach with its <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/ev9/">EV9</a> all-electric 3-row SUV. Both vehicles get the thumbs-up from us. The Carnival is distinct from other minivans because of its SUV-like look, yet it still has practical minivan aspects, such as sliding side doors. And the kind of ride height that makes strapping a child into their special seat much easier than hoisting them up into a higher SUV. It’s little day-to-day details like these that help to make the Carnival such a great family vehicle.

Highway Driving Assist 
Keep an attentive hand on the wheel, and the Kia Carnival can do much of the steering, braking, and accelerating in various traffic conditions. No minivan does it better.
Quiet Mode 
From the EX level and up, the audio system has a Quiet Mode, which pipes sound through just the front speakers. This feature is great when little ones (or even big ones) are napping in the back.

Dual Panoramic Displays

The SX Prestige comes exclusively with a second-row VIP lounge setup, featuring heated/ventilated seats that slide, recline, and activate leg extensions — all at the push of a button or a voice command. Keep in mind these particular seats aren’t removable, though.

The Kia Carnival’s cabin is roomy and well-appointed. At either end of the lineup, the LX and SX Prestige models accommodate seven. The LSX, EX, and SX trims have seating for eight as standard. The Carnival features sliding/removable second-row and reclining third-row seats that fold into the floor.
The SX Prestige comes exclusively with second-row VIP lounge seats that slide and recline while also having leg extensions — all at the push of a button. These seats are comfy but not removable if you need extra cargo space.
We’ve tested the Carnival with child car seats and can confirm they’re easy to install. It’s also pretty easy for kids to climb into the third row, especially with second-row captain’s chairs. However, we found that the optional rear entertainment system screens — mounted on the backs of the front seats — can create a bit of an obstacle to third-row entry and exit.
The available dual panoramic displays, consisting of two 12.3-inch screens, create a high-tech look and feel from the front seats of the Carnival. As is often the case in Kia models, the infotainment system is straightforward and user-friendly, and we love that Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard.
Interior space is important to minivan shoppers, and the Kia Carnival has a lot of it. At 35.6 inches of third-row legroom, it’s about on par with the Chrysler Pacifica, while the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey have more room in the third row. However, the Carnival is the king of cargo space, with 40.2 cubic feet of room behind the third row and 145.1 cubic feet of max cargo room behind the first row. These cargo dimensions are good even by minivan standards, and it’s dramatically more cargo room than any <a href="https://www.kbb.com/comparison/midsize-3-row-suv-comparison/">midsize 3-row SUV</a>.

With a boxy shape, a flat nose with a big grille, and the tallest ground clearance in its class, the Kia Carnival is a minivan that kind of looks like an SUV, but retains minivan practicality with sliding doors and a spacious 3-row interior. So spacious that it boasts the most cargo room in its class. The 2026 Kia Carnival is powered by a 242-horsepower turbo hybrid 4-cylinder engine matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Compared to the non-hybrid Carnival, there’s a noticeable trade-off in performance for better fuel economy. The hybrid has less hustle, but that’s the price you pay for significantly lower fuel costs via the more efficient hybrid powertrain.
That said, the Carnival Hybrid delivers ample acceleration, even when full of passengers. It possesses no shortage of power for around-town errand running, but some highway passing maneuvers with all seats occupied made us miss the gutsier V6 in the regular Carnival.
As for ride quality, the Carnival Hybrid proved a smooth and comfortable driving companion in our testing. The steering is light but accurate and linear, while the suspension keeps everything on an even keel. Only the worst roads brought out some body jostling and tire noise. Occasionally, wind noise around the side mirrors also became slightly elevated at highway speed. Yet, by and large, the Carnival Hybrid exceeded our expectations for driving refinement and the confidence inspired when behind the wheel.

The Kia Carnival is rated at 33 combined mpg, significantly better than the non-hybrid Carnival’s 21 mpg rating. The hybrid Toyota Sienna is a little more efficient at 36 mpg, and the plug-in hybrid Chrysler Pacifica can travel up to 32 miles on electricity alone and gets 30 mpg once the battery has been drained. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/odyssey/">Honda Odyssey</a> and non-hybrid <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chrysler/pacifica/">Chrysler Pacifica</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chrysler/voyager/">Voyager</a> get 22 mpg.

The 2026 Lexus RZ is a compact luxury all-electric SUV with style, technology, comfort, and space in a refined and elegant package.

Power, Ride and Handling

Composed, quiet, serene &#8230; these are common descriptions of Lexus vehicles in general, while the RZ’s electric drivetrain takes such quietude to the next level. For 2026, that tranquility may even occur at a rapid pace, as the new RZ 550e leverages its 402 horsepower to accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. That’s a decidedly brisk pace for an SUV, let alone one that’s primarily focused on luxury and comfort, although the RZ 550e’s F Sport treatment means it comes with a range of performance-themed visual upgrades as well.
The all-new M Mode, available only in the RZ 550e F Sport, provides virtual gear shifting via paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The intent is to increase driver engagement and feel.
It’s not just the top model that adds fun to the 2026 RZ range. Even the base RZ receives performance upgrades this year. A new battery and charging system mean more output is available, upgrading power from 201 hp to 221 hp, and range is up from 266 miles to a Lexus-estimated 300 miles.
In the middle of the range, the RZ 450e AWD carries forward with the same power figures as last year, while also benefiting from the upgraded battery and charging. With 308 hp and a 4.9-second zero-to-60 mph time, the RZ 450e is anything but slow.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Lexus says the RZ 350e will achieve an EPA range rating of “approximately 300 miles,” while the updated RZ 450e will offer approximately 260 miles. That’s a jump of about 35 miles for the base model and about 60 miles for the RZ 450e compared to last year’s RZ. The top-spec RZ 550e F Sport is expected to offer approximately 225 miles of range.
Using DC fast charging can top up the RZ’s battery from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes. That&#8217;s about 10 minutes off the quickest rivals, but still acceptable.

Expressive Exterior

Seeing fit to leave a good-looking design alone for the most part, the 2026 Lexus RZ’s exterior is mostly unchanged. The new RZ 550e F Sport comes with model-specific details, however, including black F Sport trim for the emblem, a rear spoiler, front/rear bumper moldings, its own grille design, and 20-inch wheels with aero covers. An exclusive new Wind gray color with subtle metallic highlights is also offered with the RZ 550e.

Wireless phone integration 
Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work wirelessly in the RZ, and phone charging is also wireless. If you’d rather plug in, there are five USB-C ports available. Passengers will also appreciate the built-in Wi-Fi.
Mark Levinson audio 
Even if you’re not a hardcore audiophile, you’ll notice the difference with this optional sound system. It packs 13 speakers and 1,800 watts of surround sound, delivering crisp highs and deep, rich bass. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade.
Easy-to-use infotainment 
The 14-inch screen might not be the biggest out there these days, but it’s clear, responsive, and easy to use. You can also control many of the car’s features with voice commands if that’s more your style.
Advanced Park 
Parking in tight spots just got easier. This system takes over the steering, throttle, and brakes to guide the car into or out of tricky spaces — all on its own.
Frequency Reactive Dampers 
This smart suspension system helps smooth out rough roads while keeping the ride stable and composed. The RZ is the first Lexus to offer this high-tech feature.
Panoramic View monitor 
This uses multiple cameras to provide a full 360-degree view around the vehicle. It’s great for spotting obstacles or making sure kids and pets are safely out of the way.

High-Quality Interior

An elegant, comfortable, and modern 5-seat cabin is a hallmark of the 2026 RZ. If you’ve driven or ridden in other modern Lexus vehicles, everything here should be relatively familiar. Rich materials, visually pleasing design, and solid-feeling controls are the baseline. Front seat comfort is nearly matched in the second row, and the high seating position gives a sense of command.
The 2026 model year sees upgrades to the RZ’s cabin, including an improved Dynamic Sky Panorama glass roof, which is more transparent when desired but also offers a deeper shade when enabled. A new laser-etched pattern on the Ultrasuede fabric door trim (the brand’s first use of the technique) now offers a subtle flickering backlight effect intended to evoke the passage of time. The door treatment is available in the Thematic Illumination with Animated Door Trim Shadow Illumination package.

As Lexus’ pure electric vehicle (EV), the RZ is the brand’s standard-bearer for the future. It brings the quiet, effortless thrust of electric motors to the already quiet, refined elegance of a Lexus. The RZ’s cabin is spacious, with similar seating space and more cargo room than the popular Lexus RX SUV. For 2026, the RZ gets increased range and power, putting it on a more competitive footing against the rest of the burgeoning luxury compact electric SUV class. The 2026 Lexus RZ is expected to begin sales later in 2025.

Pricing for the 2026 Lexus RZ won’t be revealed until closer to its on-sale date later this year, but we don’t expect big changes from 2025 for the entry-level RZ 350e (which replaces the prior 300e) and RZ 450e AWD models, which started at roughly $44,000 and $49,000, respectively. The new RZ 550e AWD is likely to start around $60,000.

The Lexus RZ is priced competitively against its closest rivals, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/tesla/model-y/2025/">Tesla Model Y</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/genesis/gv60/">Genesis GV60</a>, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/volvo/ex40/">Volvo EX40.</a> It even undercuts the latter two by about $10,000 in base form. The midlevel RZ 450e is closer in price and performance to those rivals, however, and the new RZ 550e takes things up a notch, offering the same power as the top-end EX40, but accelerating nearly a half-second quicker to 60 mph. The GV60 Performance matches or tops the RZ 550e in performance terms, but it’s also about $10,000 more expensive. All in all, the RZ sits in a strong value position among its class.

The Lexus RZ is still a relatively new vehicle — the first example hit the market for the 2023 model year — so resale data is still sparse, but Lexus resale values are typically above average. All 2026 RZs receive a North American Charging System (NACS) charging port, meaning they’re compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network. Level 1 and Level 2 onboard charging is standard at up to 11 kW (up from last year’s 7 kW).
4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty
The basic Lexus new-vehicle warranty lasts four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. That’s typical among luxury vehicles. Powertrains are covered for six years or 70,000 miles, which is better than most competitors. The battery is covered by an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty.
Safety Ratings
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) has previously awarded the RZ the highest accolade of Top Safety Pick+, and the RZ earned a 5-Star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). The RZ comes standard with a comprehensive array of safety technology.

The 2026 Lexus RZ adds a new RZ 550e F Sport variant with standard all-wheel drive (AWD), 402 horsepower, and other performance upgrades. Even the base RZ sees updates, with power rising about 10% compared to last year’s model, and range now around 300 miles. Also new is a first for Lexus — an M mode that lets the RZ behave as if it has a shiftable transmission.

Power, Ride, And Handling

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is powered by a 152-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine matched with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. Here again, the Eclipse Cross can’t help but trail the competition.
The modest Honda HR-V has more oomph with 158 hp, while a turbocharged Mazda CX-30 boasts up to 250 hp — nearly 100 more than the humble Eclipse Cross — and can be had for about $1,500 more than an Eclipse Ralliart. Even a base Mazda CX-30 easily outperforms the Eclipse Cross with 191 hp, comes standard with all-wheel drive, robust technology, and adaptive cruise control, yet is notably less expensive. That&#8217;s not even a horse race in our eyes.
That said, this Mitsubishi’s little engine does deliver satisfying thrust low in the rev range, making it suitable for shorter commutes. But longer treks and hilly terrain prove more challenging. We found the Eclipse Cross one of the slowest SUVs in its class, and its pokey highway performance underwhelmed us.
We also say that the Eclipse Cross performs adequately if most of your driving duties are on city streets. The ride is quiet and comfortable, and the standard all-wheel-drive system makes it a good choice for snowy climates.
Fuel Economy
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross gets a combined fuel economy rating of 26 mpg in the base ES trim and 25 mpg in every other trim. This is below average for a compact SUV. For comparison, when equipped with all-wheel drive, the Honda CR-V gets up to 28 mpg, and the (2025) Toyota RAV4 returns up to 30 mpg. Here again, you&#8217;d be better off in a Mazda CX-30, which attains 29 mpg. Several hybrid options in this class get 40 mpg or better.

Athletic Exterior

The exterior design of the Eclipse Cross could be one of its most appealing traits, literally. It boasts dramatic body lines, a stylish light signature, and a coupe-like roofline in the back. Ralliart models add extra pizzazz with trim-specific side graphics, spoiler, and front lip. Black Edition models bring the required darkened wheels and other elements, along with a front lip and spoiler.

Exceptional Warranty 
Mitsubishi vehicles are backed by an exceptional warranty, and the Eclipse Cross enjoys 5-year/60,000-mile basic coverage and a powertrain backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty.
Super All-Wheel Control 
When comparing prices, keep in mind Mitsubishi’s robust all-wheel drive system is standard across the Eclipse Cross lineup.
Panoramic Sunroof 
Not every compact SUV offers a panoramic sunroof. For the Eclipse Cross it becomes available at the SE level.
Touring Package 
Climb to the tiptop of the Eclipse Cross range, and your view will include a head-up display, heated rear seats, adaptive cruise control, upgraded forward collision mitigation, and an upgraded sound system.
Power-heated outboard mirrors 
Standard on all trim levels are heated power mirrors. We like that heated mirrors make quick work of clearing the mirror surface of snow and fog.
Dual-zone automatic climate control 
Beginning with the Black Edition trim, the driver and front-seat passenger can dial in the temperature ideal for each. No more bickering over the climate controls. The two lower trims get single-zone automatic climate control.

Satisfactory Cabin

The Eclipse Cross&#8217;s 2-row, 5-passenger cabin ranges from pretty basic to, well, just fine. Finally, Mitsubishi has blessed the base ES with the same 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as the rest of the lineup. However, even this setup is merely adequate these days when a less expensive Hyundai Kona comes standard with a 12.3-inch unit and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
There are some nice touches, though; we like that automatic climate control is standard. Higher trims offer plusher accommodations with leather seats and niceties like a heated steering wheel and a head-up display.
We found getting in and out of the back seats a bit awkward because of the sloping roofline that gives the Eclipse Cross its unique look. However, the space and comfort were fine once we settled into the back seats. It has an adequate 37.1 inches of rear legroom, but less than some subcompact SUVs like the Chevy Trailblazer, which has 39 inches.
The cargo room of the Eclipse Cross is also just OK. The Eclipse Cross has 23.4 cubic feet of room behind the back seats. Fold down the rear seats and get 50.1 cubic feet of space. We’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/volkswagen/taos/">Volkswagen Taos</a>, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/trailblazer/">Chevy Trailblazer</a> all have more cargo space, more rear legroom, and lower starting prices than the Eclipse Cross.

The wallflower of small SUVs, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross goes mainly unnoticed in the surge of higher-profile rivals. Furthermore, because of its not-too-big-not too-small approach, it’s easy to overlook whether shopping for a subcompact or a compact SUV. In either case, the Eclipse Cross has some good things going for it. For example, its standard all-wheel drive (AWD), competitive pricing, and industry-leading warranty (matched only by Hyundai and Kia) are all sound reasons for considering the Eclipse Cross.

The LE and SE grades generate the most sales. The SEL is the third most popular with buyers. If you set your heart on a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mitsubishi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mitsubishi</a> and the Eclipse Cross is a bit small for your needs, we recommend the Outlander, which starts at about $3,000 more.
Following the Eclipse Cross middle-of-the-road size, its prices also sort of land between the subcompact and compact SUV segments. For instance, its pricing begins higher than smaller rivals like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/seltos/">Kia Seltos</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/kona/">Hyundai Kona</a>, and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/hr-v/">Honda HR-V</a>, and a bit less than popular compact SUVs like the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/cr-v/">Honda CR-V</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/subaru/forester/">Subaru Forester</a>, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/sportage/">Kia Sportage</a>, and, we expect, the redesigned <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/rav4/">Toyota RAV4</a> when its prices are announced.
Here’s where things get serious. There isn’t a subcompact or compact mainstream SUV that fails as miserably, on average, to retain value over the years as the Eclipse Cross. Ouch. Remember: Higher resale value means recouping more money when it’s time to trade in or sell your car.

Mitsubishi backs the Eclipse Cross with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. These terms tie with Kia and Hyundai’s for the best warranty in this class.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has earned a 5-Star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). In testing with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), we should note that the Eclipse Cross had several ratings of Poor, including in the latest moderate overlap and side-impact tests.

The small 2025 Acura ADX is the new gateway to Acura’s SUV stable, introducing a fresh generation of premium SUV buyers to Honda’s luxury division.

The revving heart of the ADX is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine related to the one found in the sporty Integra sedan. This 190-horsepower unit is peppy and lively, with a fair amount of low-end torque as well. It doesn’t quite match up to the 241 hp of the entry-level BMW X1, however. The base ADX comes with sporty details and a sport-tuned suspension, while Acura’s Integrated Dynamics System with four driving modes is also included.
Fuel Economy
The 2025 Acura ADX achieves 28 mpg combined in its front-wheel-drive configuration, or 27 mpg combined when fitted with all-wheel drive. In this class context, that’s exactly where it should be, matching the BMW X1 and just one mpg behind the Mercedes-Benz GLA. Bringing up the tail of the group is the Audi Q3 with its 25 mpg combined rating.

It might seem that there’s not much leeway to differentiate a small SUV from its competition, but if the ADX was parked alongside its rivals, there would be no difficulty telling it apart. In fact, every vehicle in this class does a great job of conveying its company’s image. The ADX is clearly an Acura, just as the X1 is unmistakably a BMW.
The A-Spec’s exterior influence on the already sporty design of the ADX brings 19-inch Shark Gray alloy wheels, LED fog lights, and black accent trim.

Standard wireless everything 
OK, not everything, but device charging and smartphone connectivity (Android Auto/Apple CarPlay) are wireless, meaning no cord clutter in the cabin and no friction when it comes to staying connected.
Bang &amp; Olufsen audio 
This 15-speaker premium sound system is the upgrade option from the standard 8-speaker setup. It comes with the ADX A-Spec with Advance package.
Alexa built-in 
Also part of the ADX A-Spec with Advance package, this voice control system leverages Amazon’s Alexa to help control various systems, including music and navigation.
AcuraWatch safety systems 
A comprehensive set of both passive and active safety features, the standard AcuraWatch array includes lane-departure warning, emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keeping assistance, road sign recognition, and much more.
A-Spec style 
Although the base ADX already looks quite sporty with its stance and proportions, adding the A-Spec package brings the visual impact of 19-inch alloy wheels, suede-like seat trim, ambient LED lighting, panoramic moonroof, flat-bottomed steering wheel, stainless sport pedals, red gauge needles, and contrast stitching.
Affordability 
Although the ADX starts nearly $10,000 higher than its Honda HR-V platform-mate, it’s significantly less expensive than the competition while offering similar size, style, and features. If you’re not hung up on having the most prestigious marque in your garage, the ADX is a strong value.

The ADX’s cabin makes a good first impression, with contemporary styling, plenty of tech, plus premium materials and finishes. Opt for the A-Spec and the look gets even sportier, while the A-Spec with Advance package adds another layer of luxury.
The ADX is roomier than most rivals. The front row enjoys 41.9 inches of legroom, the second row comes with 37.7 inches of legroom, and both rows offer more than 38 inches of headroom. Behind the rear seats, there’s 24.4 cubic feet of cargo space, and 55.1 cubic feet with those seats laid flat.
By comparison, the BMW X1 offers about the same cargo area and slightly less rear legroom, while the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA both fall short of the ADX in cargo space and second-row legroom.

A more affordable entry point into the world of Acura’s sporty luxury vehicle range is always welcome, and the ADX looks to be a solid choice for those looking for a premium compact SUV on a reasonable budget. Despite being all-new, the ADX is built on shared architecture with the Honda HR-V, an established and well-sorted mainstream take on the same size segment.

The 2026 Subaru Solterra electric SUV is rebooted with greater range, more power, and impressive technology.

We expect the 2026 Solterra to feel even more emboldened with its 233 hp, a bump up from the 215 of the past model. One of the many cool things about electric vehicles is that acceleration is immediate. Like flicking a light switch, pressing the accelerator provides instant thrust. That thrust will be even more apparent in the 2026 Subaru Solterra XT, which has motors outputting 338 hp. Subaru says it will enable a zero-to-60-mph sprint in less than five seconds. That’s quick indeed.
All Solterra models are all-wheel drive thanks to a motor at each axle. Being a Subaru, the Solterra is also meant for at least some light off-roading. Here, its 8.3 inches of ground clearance, a retuned all-wheel-drive system, and drive modes including Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. Yes, there are two different settings for snow. The Solterra is a Subaru, indeed.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
For its 2026 reboot, Subaru says the Solterra has 25% better range than the outgoing model. That is, it is estimated to go more than 285 miles between charges, versus the rather meager 227 miles of the outgoing model.
Furthermore, Subaru says the new Solterra can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 35 minutes on a DC fast charger. Both these numbers still trail the Ioniq 5, but are still pretty impressive. Also helping the public charging cause, the 2026 Solterra will include a North American Charging System (NACS) charge port, meaning the 2026 Solterra can drink electrons from the Tesla Supercharger network.

Smoothed exterior

We’ll be the first to acknowledge that the past Solterra’s exterior styling was, uh, unique. Like its bZ4X sibling from Toyota, it had a lot going on. This new one has tamed much of that busyness while retaining familiar elements like the boomerang taillights and sleek sloping rear window. The new front end is almost minimalist. We’ve only seen photos of the new Solterra in white, so it’s all quite stark. We imagine more color schemes will bring added appeal.

Tech-Forward Interior

The Solterra sees upgrades to its 5-passenger cabin for its 2026 reintroduction. Front and center is a standard 14-inch touchscreen, along with dual wireless phone chargers so you don’t have to argue with your spouse or friend over who gets to juice their phone. We still have some reservations about the dial-based gear selector, but hopefully, familiarity at least leads to acceptance for owners. We are, however, fans of square-shaped steering wheels, and the Solterra has one. With its chunky console between driver and passenger, the Solterra doesn’t feel as open and airy as, say, an Ioniq 5. The Solterra is Subaru’s first dedicated electric vehicle, an SUV that debuted for the 2023 model year as a joint project with Toyota and a twin to that brand’s bZ4X. While the initial Solterra filled an EV-sized hole in Subaru’s lineup, it trailed rivals in range and power. Subaru is addressing both for the 2026 Solterra — and adding some cherries on top.
This new version can travel more than 285 miles between charges and has 233 horsepower. Both are improvements over the last Solterra, and while still not class-leading, at least put the new one in serious competition with rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Chevrolet Equinox EV. Perhaps best of all, the Solterra is instilled with the Subaru traits of all-wheel drive (AWD) and an adventurous attitude, while the new Solterra XT injects potency into the mix.

Subaru has yet to announce official pricing for the Solterra, but we can make some educated guesses. The current model starts just below $40,000, and we estimate Subaru will aim to keep the Solterra in that region, though its price will likely nudge up given the updates and uncertainty in the market. Subaru has yet to announce specific trims, so we are making estimates here.

The 2026 Subaru Solterra EV uses a 74.7-kWh battery pack. Its MPGe is still to be determined. Safety
The last Solterra earned top marks for its crash safety, and we expect the new one to also perform well. However, we must await testing for official scores. The Solterra does come standard with a long list of safety and driver-assist features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and much more.

The efficient and fast-charging Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan gets a refresh for 2026 with updated styling and a revised interior.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is powered by a 225-horsepower electric motor motivating the rear wheels. There’s also a 149-hp single-motor variant and a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain with 320 hp.
We found the Hyundai Ioniq 6 a delight to drive with any powertrain. Most single-motor rear-wheel-drive variants hit 60 mph from a standstill in seven seconds, and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup gets there about two seconds quicker. Like many EVs, the experience of moving away from a stop so quickly is heightened by the smooth and quiet manner in which it happens.
Another common virtue of EVs like this one is a hushed cabin on the highway, which is a relaxed experience with Highway Driving Assist. Quietness has become something of a trademark of <a href="https://www.kbb.com/hyundai/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyundai EVs</a>, and the Ioniq 6 is no exception. One of our gripes is that the weight of the heavy battery pack can give the Ioniq 6 a choppy ride on uneven pavement, especially with the available 20-inch wheels.
By virtue of being a sedan rather than an SUV, there’s an expectation for the Ioniq 6 to be more responsive and engaging than the Ioniq 5, but we’ve found them about equally enjoyable. Both offer a smooth one-pedal driving feature, which becomes a game of how little you can use the brake pedal to maximize efficiency. Then, it’s simply a better way of operating a vehicle.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
Using the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6 as a measuring stick, we expect the 2026 Ioniq 6 to get a max range of about 342 miles with the bigger battery, rear-wheel drive, and 18-inch wheels. Its max range with all-wheel drive should be around 316 miles, and its Standard Range battery should manage about 240 miles. As is the case with all EVs, opting for all-wheel drive or bigger wheels hurts range and efficiency.
The Ioniq 6 boasts impressive charging speeds, with a peak rate of 350 kW (that’s high). With DC fast charging, it can replenish its battery from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes. With Level 2 charging at home, it reliably gets a full charge overnight.

Sleek Exterior

Depending on your taste, the exterior design of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 could be the reason you want it or the reason you won’t consider it. Love it or hate it, we always welcome something that looks different from anything else on the road. The dome-shaped Ioniq 6 certainly makes a statement, and it&#8217;s tweaked for 2026 with a more horizontal light signature, a reworked rear spoiler, new wheel designs, and a sporty-looking new N-Line trim.

Frugal efficiency 
Yes, every electric vehicle is efficient compared to a similar gas-powered vehicle. However, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is stunningly efficient, even by EV standards. Its efficient motors and aerodynamic design get the most out of the electrons in the battery, which translates to cheap fuel costs.
Fast charging 
Many EVs have DC fast charging, but the Ioniq 6 has an almost unbeatable max charging speed of 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes in ideal conditions. With Level 2 charging at home, it can reliably charge to 100% overnight.
Dual panoramic displays 
The Hyundai Ioniq 6&#8217;s cabin features a large, rectangular display housing a digital gauge cluster and a central infotainment screen, which lends a high-tech look and feel. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard.
Highway Driving Assist 
Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist system isn’t hands-free, but it’s one of the most natural-feeling driving assist systems of its kind. It safely keeps you centered in your lane at a safe distance from the car in front of you while you keep a light hand on the wheel.
One-pedal driving 
This is a common function with electric vehicles, where the brake regeneration is at its highest, allowing the driver to slow down and come to a complete stop just by lifting off the accelerator. This system is smooth and natural in the Ioniq 6. It’s an effective way to drive an electric car, and it soon becomes second nature.
Over-the-air updates 
The Ioniq 6 can be improved after purchase with these remote software updates; no fussing around with flash drives or dealer appointments.

High-Tech Interior

Hyundai says the interior of the Ioniq 6 maintains a &#8220;Mindful Cocoon&#8221; concept. Whatever that means, we like this interior, which gets even better for 2026 with a new 3-spoke steering wheel and more premium materials on the door panels. The controls have a good balance of hard buttons and switches for things like seat climate controls and the parking camera, while infotainment duties are handled by a crisp screen with an intuitive interface.
Rear legroom is adequate at 34.7 inches. The sloping roofline will constrict rear headroom for taller types, but it’s less of an issue for the average adult. Trunk space measures 11.2 cubic feet, enough for a couple of golf bags, but pretty small for a sedan this size. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 has about the same rear legroom, an extra inch of rear headroom, and 21 cubic feet of luggage area.
