OTA, or Over-the-Air technology, updates a vehicle’s firmware wirelessly without requiring the vehicle owner to bring the vehicle to a dealer or service center. OTA updates typically use the cellular data network, although satellite radio systems use their own network to update channel lists and settings. Tesla was an early adopter of OTA updates, and other automakers are now beginning to use the technology.
