What Is Methanol?

Methanol is a simple alcohol compound. It is naturally colorless but not odorless and is extremely toxic to humans and other animals. Methanol is used as a fuel, fuel additive, cleanser, and as solvent. Methanol readily mixes with water, so it is used to bond with and thereby eliminate water in gasoline tanks. See also ethanol.
