Level 2 charging is an elevated form of electric vehicle (EV) charging. Level 2 charging happens at 240 volts of alternating current, the standard for large residential appliances such as stoves, water heaters, and clothes dryers. Most Level 2 vehicle chargers are rated in amperes, generally 16 or 30 Amps. The same ratings may also be expressed in kilowatts as 3.3 kW and 7.2kW, respectively. Home EV charging station providers recommend Level 2 chargers because they can completely charge a typical EV in four to six hours. See also Level 1 charging.
