What Is a Kilowatt?

A kilowatt (kW) is a measure of electrical energy equivalent to 1,000 watts. For example, ten 100-watt lightbulbs require 1 kilowatt of electricity to light up. (10 x 100 = 1,000). See also kilowatt-hour, watt, and watt-hour.
