IP is an abbreviation for “instrument panel,” the driver’s information and control center of an automobile. Also known as the “instrument cluster,” the IP is above and behind the steering wheel on the driver’s side of the dashboard and usually features the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and oil-pressure gauge. It may also include a driver information center (DIC) with data from the infotainment screen, like navigation prompts, radio settings, and other features.
