What Is the IIHS?

The IIHS is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a non-profit organization founded in 1959 that researches and rates vehicle safety. The name derives from the fact that a consortium of insurance companies founded the institute. Insurance companies continue to fund the institute’s operations.
