What Is Forward Collision Warning?

Forward Collision Warning

Forward collision warning is a driver safety system that uses radar, lasers, or cameras to detect other vehicles ahead of the driver’s car and uses that data to trigger warnings to the driver. Such safety systems can also detect other obstacles, like people, cyclists, and animals, in the path of the moving vehicle.

Vehicles with forward collision warning alert the driver of potential impacts through visual, aural, or haptic prompts.

If the vehicle employs automatic emergency braking, it can slow or stop before impact if the driver takes no action. If not, it will only warn the driver, who must act. See also ADAS and collision avoidance.
