What Is EPAS?

Electric power and steering - EPAS

EPAS, or Electric-Power-Assisted Steering, is a system that uses a motor instead of a hydraulic pump powered by the vehicle’s engine to implement power-assisted steering. Engine-powered pumps are less efficient than electric motors and rely on drive belts that often fail. EPAS allows engineers to tweak and control a vehicle’s steering, including introducing inputs not originating from the driver’s handling of the steering wheel.
