Driver drowsiness monitoring and driver attention monitoring is a camera- and sensor-based safety technology that can detect drivers’ fatigue or distracted focus. Once drowsiness or inattention is detected, the system warns drivers to take a break.
Driver attention monitoring analyzes head and eye movements and other facial and body cues. Some systems include sensors that monitor steering, such as the frequency of steering-wheel corrections. The system warns drivers through audible and visual notifications. Some advanced systems add haptic notifications, initiating vibration in the steering wheel and seat to refocus drivers. The coffee cup icon represents driver attention monitoring across most brands. See also ADAS, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
