“Drive-by-wire” describes systems of electronic devices that control a vehicle using signals and motors instead of mechanical connections. For example, these systems may replace a mechanical throttle cable from an accelerator pedal to the engine with an electrical pedal position sensor that transmits the driver’s inputs to an engine control computer.
