Deep-tinted glass is automotive glass tinted with a dye and installed by the auto manufacturer. Often labeled privacy glass by automakers, deep-tinted glass shields the car’s interior from light, heat, and prying eyes. Sometimes this feature comes standard; other times, it’s an option for an added charge.
Aftermarket tinting is just film adhered to the glass, although it can block UV radiation, unlike deep-tinted glass.
Factory-installed deep-tinted glass meets all states’ darkness limits. If you choose to install or add aftermarket tint, make sure the total effect meets the requirements of your state or any you intend to travel, since legal limits vary by state. Being found violating these laws can lead to expensive fines, for starters.
