Amazon Alexa Auto is an automotive-specific version of Amazon’s cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI or “ambient intelligence,” as the company calls it) helper program, which allows the driver (or passengers) to activate vehicle functions via voice prompts and to access certain other Alexa functions beyond the automobile. Owners can program Alexa Auto to interface with the Alexa-enabled features in their homes to perform multiple functions, like turning on interior lights or sound systems.
Like other integrated third-party apps, some automobile infotainment systems come with Amazon Alexa built-in. Vehicles not equipped with Amazon Alexa can be modified with aftermarket receivers and devices to install it. See also Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
