"Beats all its rival in Luxury, Style and Safety"

I researched and compared: 1) 2018 Audi Q5 Prestige (test drove); 2) 2018 BMW X3 xDrive30i, M Sport design, Executive Tier (test drove); 3) 2018 Volvo XC60 T5 Inscription (test drove); 4) 2018 Mercedes GLC300 Fully loaded. Subjectively, I think no car come close to the high tech, simplistic and elegant interior design of XC60. Quality is top notch: soft-touch material everywhere, comfy/supportive seats with soft leather, heat/ventilation and even massage! (Probably the biggest) panoramic moonroof that extend to slightly behind rear passenger. As an audiophile, the B&W option is a must. None of the other three candidates is in even comparable. I love the exterior design, but this is subjective. Also, I think its established that Volvo is synonymous to safety so I wont waste time talking about this. My wife and I love how the ride is tuned with comfort in mind. I think enthusiast will prefer X3 and Q5. But for us, this is a family car so comfort is THE priority. If a sporty drive is what you are looking for, I do recommend X3 or Macan. After basically went through all youtube reviews and website articles, and personally test drove these SUVs, I narrowed down to a fully loaded Q5 Prestige (~56,400 before fees and tax) and fully loaded XC60 T5 Inscription (59,355 before fees and tax). I dare say you wont make any mistake if you choose either one. As much as I want the bragging right of owning a luxury German car, the modern interior/exterior styling, luxury design/material and safety features of XC60 is just the more rational choice for me and my family. Absolutely no regret =)

"They WISH they were a luxury brand"

I am very disappointed in this car. It is depreciating faster than I can pay it down, dropping in value by $1500 per month. The T8 AWD system is split, electric in back, gas in front, so any need for AWD capabilities in slippery or uneven conditions has not been successful. In town on dry straight roads the car is nice to drive, but the autonomous driving breaks down if there is more than a slight curve, the electric motor will only get you about 15 miles in town, and the gas mileage once gone is only 26mpg. This car was ALMOST great, but in reality missed nearly every one of my requirements. I got sucked in by the beautiful interior and technology, and hoped this was "the next Tesla". the reality is I wish I could sell this thing, but the residual value is depreciating so fast that I can't get rid of this thing

My XC60 Has a Mind of Its Own!
Pros

Cons

Has a mind of its own! Unreliable!

Finally got my Volvo, after wanting one for years and years. I previously owned Toyota Highlanders and wanted to "spoil" myself once the kids left home. Big Mistake! This car is not reliable and does many funky and scary things...braking when it thinks I may have an accident is one example. Backing out of my driveway, the car has hard stopped twice, and I literally thought I ran over a dog or small child! My check engine light is always on, but I've been told it's fine...how will I know when it isn't fine? I have had to have AAA come for a jump start for a dead battery and neither me nor the mechanic could find anything left on. I simply don't trust this car....it surely feels like it has a mind of its own!

Elegant, refined luxury with excellent safety

Volvo has done a fantastic job with styling, safety, comfort and luxury on the XC60. I have had no additional maintenance or trips to the dealership other than annual maintenance in the last 5 years. I am glad I bought this car and am extremely happy with it.

Overall amazing car

I’ve had this car for two years now and not a single problem. I took it on a road trip from Denver to Florida and it was super comfortable. With the boost of electricity I don’t find myself using a ton of gas either.

Cons

Start/stop feature cannot disable and out dated in

It is the most eloquent and beautiful looking car in its class. Enjoyed ride and fun to drive. Very comfortable and dependable. The reason I gave this vehicle a three star is because the infotainment center is outdated and mediocre looking. I also give it a 1 star for its start/stop feature. I love it because it doesn’t sound like it’s starting up at a start sign, but there is no way to disable this feature. When you are at a stop light the air conditioner also stops blowing at high speed when the car stops. At 100 degree weather that is terrible. Yes you can hit the accelerator and the engine starts, but that doesn’t help when on the interstate at rush hour stuck in stopped traffic. This is a very bad feature and design which I despise and hate very much. I am ready to trade my car in. Volvo needs to update this feature through the software. I never did like any start/stop feature and the consumer should be able to disable and enable this feature. BAD decision Volvo engineers and designers. Also update that infotainment center.

Reliability, After service

Volvo cars have left me disappointed when it comes to reliability. Unfortunately, their service and customer care only add to the frustration and make you question your decision to buy a Volvo. Let me share my personal experience, and you can be the judge. In mid-December, my 10-month-old XC60 Recharge unexpectedly shut down for no apparent reason. After reporting the issue, it took volvo roadside assistance a whopping 12 hours to arrive. Imagine being stuck in the middle of nowhere for that long. When they finally showed up, they attempted various fixes but to no avail. Ultimately, they had to tow my car to the service center where I initially purchased it. To my dismay, the service center neglected my car for the first four days without even offering a loaner vehicle, despite my repeated requests. This was quite disheartening considering they had claimed to be a premium brand when I purchased the car. In reality, their service fell short and felt more like a budget option. After spending over a week in the service center, I was finally asked to pick up my car. However, my happiness quickly turned into disappointment when the dashboard started showing errors within 10 minutes of driving. I had to return the car the very next day for further repairs. As of my latest update on January 31, 2023, my car is still in service for the third time in the past 45 days. In fact, during the last 45 days, I have only had my car with me for a mere 3 days; the rest of the time, it has been at Palo Alto Volvo Service. There are lot many small problems, if i write here, it will become a 50 page book. Another day. If you visit Twitter and search for tweets about Volvocars, you'll find numerous similar experiences shared by others. It's disheartening to see a brand with such potential fall short in terms of reliability and customer support.
