Positive Review
The interiors are worth killing for. The feature list is so exhaustive and long, it’d take you 2-3 months to full discover and understand all of it. Very comfortable, and the T5’s dynamic drive mode is a beast. Turn it down to the economic mode and you’d get a 26mpg in a city like Dallas.
Critical Review
This car was a nightmare. When it worked, the comfort, styling and drive comfort were great. Unfortunately it was the most unreliable car I have ever owned. The car experienced a complete power failure five times and required flat bed towing to the dealership. Despite Volvo's promise of quick response towing, this was not the case. Since the car was frozen after each power failure, it had to be dragged to the tow truck and put on a flat bed. Only limited companies have such capacity and each tow took up to five hours to complete. Once at the dealership, they spent days after each failure to try to fix the problem. I was never given a loaner as they were all gone. And, Volvo corporate never contacted me to help improve the situation. After five complete power failures, Volvo repurchased the car under a Lemon Law provision. They never called, discussed, or tried to arbitrate any trade or other resolution. This is and was my worst experience with any automaker. If one looks at forums, this is not a unique experience. Although it may be rare, it is not so rare that there are no numerous reports of similar issues. Simply search for Volvo XC40 recharge, power failure. There is even a thread called, "dead as a doornail." If you live in an area with many Volvo dealers, there may be a loaner, assistance or adequate service. However, if you are in an area with only one dealer, or the closest one is miles away, you will begrudge the decision to purchase this car which is clearly a work in progress.

An enjoyable ride with power and comfort
It is a white vehicle, road salt and dirt quickly become apparent.
We teetered between a Lexus NX300, the Rav4, and the Volvo. Each would have been a worthy purchase. With grandchildren and safety in mind we were pulled to the 2024 Volvo XC40, B5. The ride on 19 inch tires is smooth, bumps are negated. The engine noise upon takeoff is loud but simmers once underway. Controls and interior functions requires an education, we learned fast and google voice helped immensely until we discovered how to gain manual control. Heated rear seats were a bonus for friends. There are too many functions to write on, some are clever others just an extra. Getting groceries in and out the back is easy as they are placed on a level not dropped in. The interior is easily cleaned. The gas lid is locked when the vehicle is locked. There is no gas cap but the gas nozzle fits to fill. I have forgotten to lock the vehicle, once in the house I use my phone and Volvo app. I drive highway distance. At 112 KM/h I use 8.1 litres per 100 km by times it drops to 7.1
Love how this car handles
No moon roof
I did a lot of research prior to finding the car I prefer. Autotrader made it easy for me to quickly compare vehicles and have a good sense of what my trade in was worth.
With so many hybrid and EV options, you have to learn. Kbb was a great resource. Ultimately settled on a lease taking the government rebate.
Quiet, quick, low maintenance, nice luxury feature
Higher price than competition
It's quiet, quick and luxurious. The Google based infotainment system is excellent and is much better than othet car manufacturers' internally developed software. .
Great looking car with great standard option
Nothing I could find so far.
I have owned SUV’s for many years now. My wife and from the beginning of the Pandemic went to a one car family for economic reasons but now was the time for me to add another car. I looked at many options including the Honda CRV, Toyota’s Rav 4 and more. Once I saw this car, it was love at first sight. The interior is very spacious, while being a smaller SUV, the cargo area is bigger than you think. Even with the back seats up, you still have plenty of space for grocery’s or whatever else you need to put back there. The standard options and safety of this car was a major reason why I wanted this vehicle. The power from zero to 60 is great and stronger than the cars I listed above. The exterior look is very nice and I love the crystal white paint with beige leather interior. It is such an easy car to drive and I knew the gas mileage prior to buying so anyone that complains on this didn’t do their homework. With power comes lower mileage but I can live with that. I love my new car!
Power get the polestar addition . The technology is first class the ability to use voice activation on the controls set heat and cold use the system to increase fan speed . Use windshield wipers and set temperature . Heated seats and steering wheel. super car great miles per gallon 27.5 around town . Dry safe as well .
Great car, handles beautifully, very smooth ride, great excelaration. Amazing sound system , very comfortable seats and leg room in the back.
Fun, Safe a blast to drive.
Range could be better.
We drove a Mustang E and a VW 1d4 then the Volvo. We ordered it on the spot. This car is seriously fast and fun to drive. The range is a little low being the only downside. The Volvo dealership was great, no messing about, we were in and out in less than an hour. We’ve owned the car for a year now and no issues. It has some great features for storage etc. we got both fed and state rebate (9000) taken off the price at the dealer.
