The standard Volvo V90 wagon has sadly been discontinued for the 2022 model year. However, the more rugged Volvo V90 Cross Country with added ride height and standard all-wheel drive remains. It excels at safety like you would expect for a Volvo, plus it has unique styling and a luxurious interior with roomy seating, but the cargo area is a little tight for a wagon.
The V90 Cross Country is more affordable than its rivals from Audi and Mercedes-Benz, but it’s still a little pricey, and it lost some standard features for 2022, like a heated steering wheel and Wi-Fi hotspot, making it a questionable value.
This rugged wagon competes in a niche segment in the luxury car world against the Audi A6 Allroad and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain wagon. One could also argue that it competes against the Subaru Outback, which has more room and a much lower starting price but isn’t as luxurious as the Volvo.
2022 Volvo V90 pricing starts at $40,237 for the V90 B6 Cross Country Wagon 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $56,295 when new. The range-topping 2022 V90 B6 Cross Country Wagon 4D starts at $40,237 today, originally priced from $56,295.
Original MSRP | KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
$56,295 | $40,237 |
The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2022 Volvo V90 models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
Driving the Volo V90 Cross Country is more engaging than the average luxury SUV but not as sporty as a true luxury sport sedan. It’s agile enough around tight corners, but this is generally a car that prioritizes comfort over sporty handling. It gets more comfortable with the available adaptive air suspension.
The sole engine option in this car is a 2.0-liter inline-4 with a turbocharger, an electric supercharger, and a 48V mild-hybrid system. Compared to its chief rivals from Audi and Mercedes-Benz, the Volvo is less powerful but a bit more fuel-efficient. This is a worthwhile trade-off if efficiency is more important to you than performance.
The off-road capabilities of the V90 Cross Country are pretty good, thanks to its 8.3-inch ground clearance and standard all-wheel drive. Don’t expect it to do any super technical rock climbing, but that’s not what this wagon is for. It’s a premium car that’s great on snowy roads and up for an occasional off-road adventure.
The Volvo V90 Cross Country has some tough competition regarding interior quality, but it’s right up there with its German rivals. This is a lovely interior with an upscale design and luxurious materials. Standard interior features include leather seats, a digital gauge cluster, wireless charging, and more. It gets nicer if you upgrade with the Advance Package or Lounge Package.
The seating space in the V90 Cross Country is pretty roomy and can comfortably seat up to four adults — or five in a pinch. While the cargo space is better than the Volvo S90 sedan, it’s not very roomy for a wagon this size. If you’re shopping for a wagon because you want a big cargo hold, you’ll be better off with the Audi A6 Allroad or Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon. The Subaru Outback has significantly more cargo space than the Volvo, despite being a slightly smaller car.
The Volvo V90 Cross Country has an aesthetic that fits its personality as a wagon that’s luxurious yet rugged. It’s a good execution of the Volvo design language with its distinct “Thor’s hammer” LED light signature and elegant body lines. Its 8.3-inch ride height and subtle lower body cladding hint at its off-pavement chops.
The size of the Volvo V90 Cross Country is very similar to the Audi A6 Allroad and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain wagon. It’s a little bigger than the Subaru Outback.
STANDARD ALL-WHEEL DRIVE
Standard all-wheel drive gives the Volvo V90 Cross Country confident traction on wet and snowy roads and some off-pavement capabilities.
LOUNGE PACKAGE
This option package makes the V90 Cross Country more luxurious, adding features like Nappa leather seats, massaging front seats, rear sunshades, and more.
The Volvo V90 Cross Country only has one trim and one powertrain available. Every V90 Cross Country is powered by a twin-charged mild-hybrid 2.0-liter inline-4 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Standard features in this wagon include LED headlights, a panoramic moonroof, leather seats, heated front seats, a memory driver’s seat, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a wireless charging pad, and 4 USB-C ports.
The standard infotainment system is a 9-inch screen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Google Assistant, and Google Maps.
Standard safety features in the V90 Cross Country include a blind-spot information system with steering assist and cross-traffic alert with auto braking, run-off road protection, lane-keeping aid, and the Pilot Assist system with adaptive cruise control.
There are three option packages available for the V90 Cross Country. The Climate Package ($750) adds heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and headlight cleaners. An Advanced Package ($1,700) adds more premium features like a head-up display and a 360-degree camera. Finally, the Lounge Package ($2,800) puts this wagon in the next level of luxury with features like Nappa leather seating, cooled front seats, 4-zone automatic climate control, rear sunshades, massaging front seats, and much more.
A few individual options for the V90 Cross Country include multiple premium audio systems, 20-inch wheels, adaptive air suspension, and a power liftgate.
The sole engine option in the Volvo V90 Cross Country is a 2.0-liter “twin-charged” (turbocharged and supercharged) mild-hybrid inline-4. It delivers more-than-adequate power, but the Audi A6 Allroad and Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain wagon have better performance numbers.
Every V90 Cross Country is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
