Positive Review
Dependable, old, high mileage car that never quits. Consistent, reliable. Super comfortable seating like no other. Good mileage, easy to own. Paint and finish still amazing for age, still looks new.
Critical Review
Bought the car in 2007 with almost 100k on it. About two months later the O2 sensors went out. Mechanic suggested we use genuine sensors repair was $700 after tax! Then a year later they went out again!!! Needless to say I am not paying for that again. Throttle problems from day one. Now we need to replace the throttle sensors and body. Fuel line became disconnected. Brakes seem to go faster than most vehicles. Valve cover gasket went bad. Turbo needs rebuilt. Gas mileage is only around 19mpg. I will give it some credit. When it did run properly it was a dream. Just understand that a vo has the same issues as any other car on the road, but it cost about 4x more to fix it.

Easy to work on..
Part's are expensive. Under Powered....
I like the design alot it looks great. It's under powered. It's super easy to fix. You can actually work on it.
Reliable, lasts forever
Can't think of any
We actually own two S70's - a 1998 and a 2000. Got my 1998 14 years ago with 60K miles on it, now at 258K and going strong. There isn't a dot of rust on it, original muffler (with one patch). It has been through the mill of commuting through all conditions including snow, ice, sand and salt. It has hauled and towed all kinds of loads. It continues to be comfortable and thoroughly roadworthy. Yes, we have had a few repairs over the years, but none especially expensive - the normal stuff - timing belts, tires, sway bars, etc. It will probably be retired soon as we are not willing to do a fairly pricey AC repair and we just purchased a newer Volvo. It is just as comfortable as it was 200,000 miles ago when we bought it.
very nice white paint, interior easy to clean, comfortable, no rattling. Plenty of vision. Quiet engine. Love the audio. really a timeless look with comfort for all.
i bout this car from my boss he couldn't figure out why the check engine light would keep coming on on a evap code. Mechanics were gouging him. It was a simple fix. just had to change in the gas cap.great car but very poor resale value.
Runs good, working A/C, cruise control, new motor mounts
Reliable, speed, handling, comfort, safe
Lots of miles, was involved in a crash, brakes
Words cannot describe how much I love this car. Handling is SUPER responsive, and the acceleration is amazing, especially on the trims with turbocharged engines. It is an older car so don't expect features like Sirius XM or Bluetooth connectivity, but there is a wonderful sound system in the car. It does have a tape deck, and some even have CD changers. The one we have does not have the CD changer. Another thing that you really want to consider when you're looking for one of these is that they have lots of miles on them. Check the carfax; You could get something that was involved in a horrible collision, and just get the car checked out by a professional. The brakes in this car are not the best in the world; they aren't real sensitive enough for my liking, but they do stop the car, and hey, that's all that matters. Other than that, if you can find one of these that is in good condition, then get it. I would buy another one if there was one with low miles.
Comfort, ride, great in bad weather, solid.
turning radius, front suspension, throttle body.
I bought my S70 from the original owner and it was always dealer serviced. Mine is a basic, entry level model. I have always owned GM or Honda's but I have to admit that this car has a very unique feel to it. It's easy to drive. Smooth and comfortable and everything just seems to be in the right place. Mine has 200k but the paint looks great. The interior is like new. Drives wonderful! The I5 engine has just the right amount of power and is good on gas. It's never seen snow but it performs incredible in heavy rain. Wet driving mode, traction control and ABS work like a charm. The seats are the most comfortable I have ever sat in. Trunk is big. Seats fold flat. I can probably say the only things to look for on a used one would be throttle body service, power locks and the front suspension. These cars are known for those issues. My TB was replaced by the previous owner. They also have a wider then normal turning radius. The I5 engine is one of the best out there. If you can find a nice, well maintained used S70, grab it. I think like any other upper end European car, If it has a solid maintenance record. That's important!
Great value, comfortable, good in snow, reliable
Cheap cup holders
I purchased my S70 used with incredibly low mileage - 110,000 miles! This car exceeds my expectations! The seats in the car are extremely comfortable. The car rides smooth and conquers the snow with ease. There is voluminous interior space for passengers and generous trunk space. This car is an unbelievable value with plenty of features for the money. The SE trim comes standard with heated seats and an 8 speaker sound system. My car has been very reliable with no major mechanical problems. Overall, I highly recommend the Volvo S70 as a used car. I hope to keep this car as long as I can.
