Positive Review
Power of the TDI engine is very smooth and the eight Speed transmission is fast and smooth also. The ride of the R line is stiff but that is what I like. It corners flat and towes our 24 ft travel trailer with ease and plenty of power doing it. Very comfy interior. I would buy another one .
Critical Review
Purchased a 2013 TDI LUX new; and now it has 20k on the clock. At around 13k miles, I began experiencing severe tire wear on the inner edges. A trip to the tire shop and $250 later, confirmed my suspicions: the alignment was spot on. Talking with the Pirelli Rep, he feels there is nothing wrong with the tires; and VW provides no warranty on tires. A few cross rotations has them nearly sorted out - not that VW was any help. Then there are the brakes. It seems that my rotors have "warped" @ 16k miles, and VW doesn't feel it is a defect, and is not covered under warranty. In fact, they've gone so far as to tell me "you shouldn't expect brakes/pads/rotors on a 5000 lb vehicle to last over 20,000 miles." My overall take: it has a really nice diesel engine. Fuel Economy stays around 24-26. But, unless you have $1500 dollars laying around to buy new tires every year, and another $600-800 for brakes which should be (but aren't) covered under warranty ever 16-18k miles, this might be a very expensive vehicle for you to own and operate. And don't expect ANY Premium Service for your "Premium" SUV from VW. Fortunately, I have been able to do the work on my brakes myself. I can't imagine paying a VW dealer $1500 or so for new brakes.

Cost to fill the tanlk
Just got this beautiful ride. V6 gas will cost more but it's such a smooth ride, will do great for towing a camper and I feel so spoiled!
sporty yet luxurious, comfortable car with all the gadgets. We had been looking for a while, just found this car on a whim. Had never even heard of it. drove it with my wife, big smile, now its in the garage. Nice underestimated suv.
From day one of leasing this vehicle it gave us problems. No one seems to know what is wrong with the car but it won’t pass emissions. The car itself is very pretty it’s roomy has a lot of trunk space but runs bad. I have nothing else nice to say about this car. I don’t recommend this vehicle.
This car keeps you informed
Just not cheap to own
Costly to maintain unless you’re a mechanic. They are luxury cars. Front and rear brake job may cost $2000. Volkswagen’s dealer told me forget the VW logos. “You got a Porche.” Mine runs, handle and feels better than 2023 Atlas. I know because I test drove an Atlas.
So solid
Diesel is pricier
Its my second one and both were the same. Solid, powerful, comfortable and reliable. Oh and very affordable in my eyes. Services aren't bad either, if you go to a small shop in particular. Dealers are what they are ... I love my Touareg and its redonkyelous that they discontinued them here in the US. Drives way better than the Atlas.
The TDI version is able to tow up to 7500LBS and I use to tow my 24 foot trailer. The car hardly know it's there. Very comfy interior, solid VW build, handles surprisingly well for an SUV! Love it!
Safe fun fast
Expensive parts
Wish the new VW Atlas or newer Touareg were as heavy and solid feeling as the older models. They feel a bit different
Strong hauler 8000lb , best off road suv
Quiet n auick
Best SUV, 92000 miles never had any problem! Best car , wish they will bring them back to USA, most likely soon !
