"Luv my 1st VW"

I was growing ever so tired of calling on friends any time I wanted to buy something that wouldn't fit in my car. As a homeowner it got even worse as I couldn't even get an 8 foot piece of trim in my car. Not to mention the multiple problems my '03 Accord was beginning to develop like broken stability control sensors, broken automatic window motors and more. So I decided to go car shopping. I wanted a small SUV/Crossover. I started with Ford as I liked my friend's Escape when I drove it. However, I truly wanted to take the time and ensure I was getting the proper vehicle. Anyway, I was almost sold on the CR-V. This was mainly because my brother works for Honda (assembling the CR-V actually), but thankfully the dealer didn't have a color scheme I was willing to walk off the lot with. In talking to a friend he asked if I had test drove the Tiguan. I hadn't as I had never even heard of it. I liked the overall design. I didn't feel "girly" in it as I did the CR-V, and even before driving I was amazed at the overall feel of the car. It is solid! I mean it really made the CR-V feel cheap. I was sold with the drive. It was soooo smooth and quiet. Even before test driving the Tiguan, I was shocked at how noisy the CR-V was especially on the highway(sorry to compare this mostly to the CR-V, but it is the model I almost bought before visiting the VW dealer). No such noisy experience with the Tiguan that is for sure. Well long story short I left the dealers lot 11 months ago now with a Tiguan and I haven't had one regret yet. It is the first brand new car I've ever owned (I have had mostly Honda's and BMW's in the past) that hasn't had one single problem before reaching 5,000 miles. I am almost at 10,000 now and still runs perfect without one defective sensor, indicator or anything else ever. Granted at 10K miles it is still practically brand new, but I have grown to expect even a minor problem even with a brand new car. Overall this car is solid, quiet, confortable and an overall pleasure to drive. While not quite as stick the road sporty as my BMW 3 series I owned, the closest thing I can compare my 25K Tiguan to in driving experience would be my 36K 3-series. The ride and drive this car delivers TROUNCES anything its class an price range. I will gaurantee that. The one comment I also hear from friends who I let drive my Tiguan is "Wow, this car is so smooth". Compared to anything in its class and price range it definitely is. Do not buy a small SUV/Crossover without at least test driving this vehicle. You will not be sorry you did. I do have one complaint though. Gas mileage while fairly comparable isn't that great. Hello Volkswagen, I want a diesel engine! Quote from the VW dealer when I was shopping and I asked him if it came in a diesel..."If it came in a diesel, I wouldn't be able to keep them on my lot".....Uhm, isn't that what you want as car manufacturer? BIO-DIESEL engine getting 40 to 50 MPG, then I will be truly be a VW fanboy!

"Do not buy a Tiguan"

This is the worst car I have ever owened. If a light for so mechanical reason is not on than I get really scared. This vehicle has cost us over $5000.00 in repairs alone. I recommend to nver buy a Tiguan!

2013 VW Tiguan
Pros

NIce styling, great interior in like new condition, roomy storage bins everywhere, great audiio.

I have owned this vehicle for just two weeks now and am still getting accustomed to driving an automatic instead of the five-speed stick shift I had in my previous car. The Tiguan is solid as can be and drives and handles extremely well. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Best car I ever owned, very few problems!
Pros

Very low repair rate, Nimble & FAST, Comfy

Cons

Average mileage, awkward but removable Headrests

I bought my Tiggy used at 2 years old. It was certified pre-owned by Volkswagen. It had a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty and that came in handy. On the very last month of my warranty, the turbo needed replacing. It was 100% covered. My Tiguan was 4 years old at the time. I had test driven a few more poular similar SUVs and none of them felt comfortable, roomy, and peppy like my Tiguan. I went from driving sedans to this SUV and it was the best thing I did as far as cars go. It has plenty of elbow room, the backseat is huge for a smaller SUV and the trunk storage space is better than adequate. Everything seems to be placed intuitively - right down to the dash vents right where they need to be to warm cold hands. The turbo makes you feel like maybe you should go street racing or drifting (don'tdo that!!). I laugh when two muscle cars pull up next to me with their engines revving. They both look quite alarmed as i leave them in the dust! You will feel confident pulling out onto a highway, this car is quite nimble. Parking is a breeze - one, two - and you are in. This car came with so many high end features I felt like it was a much more expensive brand. The only repairs I made were the turbo replacement, and the driver side window motor got stuck - i had to have it replaced. The hood latch is ornery unless you keep it oiled - same for the gas tank door. The gas cap got a bit finicky causing a dashboard light to come on - but a gas station attendant failed to put it on tight. Don't let gas stations "top off" the gas to round the price to the next highest dollar! That caused a dash warning light to needlessly come on. The only things I felt were not good was the blind spot created by the window stem on the driver's side (the thing that goes on either side of the windshield from roof to the top of the front quarter panels). It's thick enough to actually hide a pedestrian as you drive by. The other thing I did not like was the lip you need to step over on the floor edge when you get in and out. It is high enough to catch your foot on while getting in and getting out of the car - which is a fall waiting to happen. This is a problem if you are older and not as flexible as you used to be. I have a moon roof which is quite large as moon roofs go. The only problem is that VW put a cloth pop up windscreen that obviously pops up when you open the moon roof. This windscreen makes a lot of noise and I mean a lot! There is no acrylic windscreen made for this car (like what "WeatherTech" makes) and the generic ones will not stay on thanks to that darned pop up. I know because I tried. However, it was easy to find and install the side window rain guards. I can't do without them! It lets you open the window for air without allowing any rain in at all! I have them for front and back windows. The rear wiper blade is difficult to find a replacement for. Grab one to put aside if you can. I have only ever used premium gas for better mileage and engine protection. Change the oil and filters religiously, attend to any small issues before they blossom into big issues and this car will give you its best. The spare tire is a donut, so invest in a full size just for the safety of it all. I know donuts are adequate - but I don't trust them. It can get pricey for repairs. One issue others have had was the timing chain. I have not seen this with my car. There are a few known issues and you can look them up. Knowing about them allows you to save fir when and if it happens. Si far fir me, with an almost decade old car - it hasn't. Always take it to a VW service shop or a reputable foreign car specialist for the best care. It is worth it. I feel confident knowing that this car has pickup where most other smaller SUVs just don't move fast from the start. The mileage is good to average for city driving. Highway mileage is just great. A/C is always frosty, the heat is toasty when I need that. The heated seats are especially wonderful. The keyless entry is very convenient. I look forward to buying a new VW model with all the things this one didn't have (2015 was not a good year for tech advancements in cars, I guess!) The things my Tiguan did not have are things I could easily live without, like: Android auto Remote start Heated steering wheel Touchless rear hatch (open/close) High end audio (Fender) In dash GPS 4 wheel drive Tow package Considering what I was missing out on with my 2015 Tiguan, it really wasn't much at all. Remote start is a must have for winter mornings, as well as a heated steering wheel, but ehh, I lived just fine without them. My android connected just fine to the system and already has gps, and a convenient hands free way of opening the trunk is nice - but simply pressing a button on a key fob is just as as easy! So all of that stuff is nothing i really needed! The best is just how few repairs (2) I have needed over the last 7 years. I have owned many used cars and have never had a car do this good - except for my 1967 Volkswagen Beetle!!! Now you know why I settled on the Tiguan! This car was the newest car I have purchased besides a brand new Ford tempo in 1985. That Tempo must have veen a lemon because i swear it had a breakdown every month! A brand new car!!! It cost the price of the car in repairs alone! That's why I will only ever buy certified pre-owned cars now because most of the kinks have been taken care of correctly. This Tiguan is a joy to drive and own! I would not trade it for the world unless you offered me a Toureg! Or an Atlas. Or a Jetta, or a Taos, an Arteon, a GTI, an ID.4, a Golf - oh heck, Any newer VOLKSWAGEN!

The clock spring is under warranty but the dealer cannot get the part. The airbag and horn do not work and we have a car that you can’t drive.

Probably my favorite car ever, and I've had lots.
Pros

Fun to drive, fun to look at, sports feel, handles

Cons

if I have to have one, it's premium fuel

Bought this car new. The sport model was exactly what I wanted. I love the styling, the performance, the handling. It gets lots of looks and compliments. Lots of "Oooo, a GTI." A lot of pride in ownership.
