Positive Review
Liked the rather simple but refined styling of the 2012 Passat, so I walked out of the dealer with one. I never thought I would choose the TDI (Clean diesel) but on the test drive I liked its spunk and quiet ride...Very roomy interior, back seat/leg room near cavernous. Interior is simple, "clean", and intuitive. Car handles very well, comfortable ride. Seats are very comfortable and supportive as well. You can get German engineering and simplicity of design in a value priced, now AMERICAN BUILT mid size sedan...with a clean diesel as well. Not much more one could ask for in a practical, well designed, well built and nicely priced sedan....The Passat TDI should be high on your list, especially if you don't really want to portray a big ego about the ride you drive.
Critical Review
To be clear, I am reviewing my current 2013, Passat TDI SEL, which I obtained from VW in June 2012 as a replacement vehicle (via Lemon Law); for my 2012 Passat TDI SEL LEMON, which VW replaced due to multiple mechanical and electrical problems resulting in over a half dozen trips to the mechanic (totaling over 45 days in the shop). While I still love what this car COULD be, I must warn against buying this car, unless you are willing to risk weekly trips to the mechanic; constant electronic malfunctions. I have owned 7 VWs prior to this Passat (loved my 2002 Passat) and I honestly feel the design, finishing, power, fuel economy and cost of this car would be untouchable; IF, (and this is a HUGE IF) the car was reliable. This second Passat, which has now been in the shop for the past 3 weeks (total of over 30 days in the past 6 months) serves to validate the fact that the 2012-2013 Passat made in Tenn. are more unreliable than any automobile I have encountered. I strongly caution anyone considering this vehicle; while this vehicle has wonderful attributes (I admit I still LOVE the IDEA of this car) and there is a chance you may be more "lucky" than I was, I must warn of the high risk you will be taking with this vehicle (I have had 2 consecutive, well-documented Lemons), as well as the extreme difficulty you may have to endure in dealing with VW. Like most dealers regarding the Lemon Law, VW may be willing to replace your car, but I have spent 2 years (and countless hours) unsuccessfully requesting a refund from VW, nor have they agreed to my respectful request to exchange my Passat for a German-made Passat/other TDI model). If you decide to roll the dice with this car, I wish you luck, cause you certainly will need it!

Incredible vehicle for all
AC might give you trouble after 130000 miles (if you live in Texas heat)
The Volkswagen Passat is solid, stylish, reliable, and fuel-efficient—all at a budget-friendly price. A great car that checks all the boxes in all fields.
Gas mileage!
Not as powerful as my other vehicles, but perfect for ride share and everyday driving.
Purchased in January 2024 and absolutely has turned out to be a great used car! It was purchased for use as a ride share and it has not Disappointed
Comfortable, Longevity, Great Beginner Car
Older Cars = Problems, but maintenance helps alot!
This Car was my first and it was amazing. So much room, nice features and rarely gave my issues. And any issues it pushed through them till I had the money to replace. In reference to the title, I did end up totaling my car in a bad accident. Even though most of my drivers side front was completely destroyed I was safe inside and only have bruising from the suit belt that locked before I could even smash into the airbag that deployed. Always felt so safe in here and till the very end I'm so grateful she saved my life. Such a good structure, especially considering I got brake checked going full speed on the freeway... Bought her at 80000 mileage and left her with 96000.
Ride, Mileage, Low Maintenance
None
My most recent trip from Maineville, OH to Woodstock, GA netted 40 MPG, with 73;000 miles on my 2017. Nothing but normal maintenance to date. Had a 2014 similar model before this one. I have had Jaguar, Mercedes and Volvos. Volvos 1985 to 2002 were trusted cars but my VWs are the best for mileage and maintenance.
2014 Passat diesel very good condition Owned by Mary in Beckemeyer Illinois have had the vehicle for 3 years
Quiet smooth ride, super comfortable seats. The infotainment system is a little glitchy sometimes but not enough to make me regret my purchase.
I was apprehensive about buying a VW in 2016. But this car has been rock solid, no issues at all. It excels on road trips, gets about 40+ mpg on highway with cruise set at 70.
Fun to drive, sporty suspension and tight build sp
Tire indicator should show which tires are low
Originally, I was looking at the Tiguan or Jetta. Once I saw all of the extras that were standard like the Safety features for front, back and side, as well as the sunroof, I chose the Passat. I'm glad I did. I love the tight suspension and responsive engine that only German engineering can provide. Both types of mats were included in the price too. It's a very spacious sedan but not a huge boat like other sedans. It's sporty enough to be fun yet ultra safe with to ratings for air bags and crashes. Very happy.
