Positive Review
I now have over 7000 miles on my SE and it drives great! The ride is firm, quiet and comfortable. On a recent trip to the coast we got 39-40 mpg on the highway. My highest mileage was 41.3 and I average 33-34 to and from work. Exterior and interior appearance is simple and functional. I'm not a big "whistles and bells" guy so this car was a perfect fit. The new 1.8T engine has plenty of pep The 6 speed Tiptronic is set up to keep the rpm's low but will get peppy as the gas pedal is pushed. Very roomy. Drives like more expensive car.
Critical Review
small things continue to need fixing, not as depending as toyotas I had for many years. Next car will be toyota again, not VW. Disappointed in quality.

VW - in response to a world wide emissions issue - offered to buy my Jetta diesel. The amount they offered - - - well it was similar to the "Godfather" film. (I took the offer) I drove home in a brand new 2017 VW Jetta 1.4L turbo. That was in late 2017. Since then I've not had one single issue. The price I paid was heavily discounted - (both the dealer and the the manufacturer offered deep discounts.............. About fuel efficiency: since new my CALCULATED (miles driven divided by gallons pumped) stands at 40.1 in 65City/35 Highway. My last comment deals with "Fun to drive"......a: very light clutch take-up and positive acting 5-speed transmission synchros make for pleasant operation (LA traffic aexcepted!!) The car is "Pure White" (VW-speak) - and does well during hot summers in CA
The car is in good shape, has small rust spot and a couple of dents from car doors but are not prominent. Tires are good. Interior is in excellent condition.
VW's 2018 Jetta has a 1.4L base 4-cyllinder turbo. My experience has been very possitive over the past 7 years. No issues, MPG averages more than 40 since new The 5M transmission plus light clutch takeup make the "Fun to Drive" come to life! Even the factory tires are impressive: at 62,000 miles they are still legal (>4/32) Last - but not least - the new car purchase price was very reasonable
Great gas mileage, cheap repairs.
Check engine lights, dealer not knowing how to fix.
I have had my 2011 Jetta SE 5-Speed for nearly 14 years. I bought in new off the lot and have maintained it for 186k miles. I'll list the items I've had to fix/replace beyond regular maintenance. Headliner, camshaft position sensor (OBDII reader caught this and dealer overlooked the fix for many years, massive pain), air circulation motor, door actuators, camshaft seal/cover. Beyond that the car is great. The biggest pain was the Camshaft Position Sensor issue. It would constantly give Check Engine lights, stall on the highway, and run really rough. I didn't trust myself diagnosing and fixing my car but after many failed attempts at the dealer I deep dove into the internet and found the fix. Since then it ran great.
Comfortable and good on gas.
Costly to repair.
Great car! Durable and comfortable. Can’t go wrong.
We have searched our entire province for a replacement starter on a 2013 Jetta and finally had to order one. Despite having the part # and the VIN number we have had two sent that were the wrong ones. They make several types of them for the same make and model, I do not know why but if you require a starter and you find a place that carry’s them i recommend buying two!
I’ve owned the car for a little over a year and a half and at about the 8 month mark the DPF went out on the car, that was a 3500 delete job, now I have another repair needed and it’s to the transmission/differential box, easily the most bs I’ve been through with any car and any repair I do to it now isn’t even worth the value of the car at trade in. I used to really love the car and the overall look/styling of the car is very cool and no doubt fun to drive. But I haven’t caught one break with this thing since owning it
It's a good car, but needs some repairs. It has 130,000 miles and needs new brakes. It steers well and has been running well.
