"Buyer Beware - The Volkswagon CC"

I bought a 2009 Volkswagen CC Sport with the 2.0 Liter TDI engine brand new. I really liked the looks, the finish, and the driving performance of the car. However, the engine timing chain tensioner has a design flaw that will cause it to collapse (read fail). When the timing chain tensioner fails, it results in catastrophic damage to the engine often requiring the replacement of the entire engine at a cost of many thousands of dollars. These failures have occurred at a wide range of total mileage but, according to my research, most often occur above 60,000 miles. Coincidentally, 60,000 miles is when the warranty expires. I became aware of this basic design flaw in the engine because this failure just happened to me. I am now faced with towing the car to the junk yard because the engine replacement actually costs more than the car is worth ($7,460). Because of this engine design flaw, I recommend that no one purchase the Volkswagen CC (or any other Volkswagen model) with the 2.0 Liter TDI engine.

Hurts me to not give this car 5 stars after 6y

I bought my 2009 cc 3.6 vr6 back in 2018 and it had just over 26k on the dash. Today at the tail end of 2024, the car has 93k on the dash, and just had the costly timing chains service. Also needed valve cover gasket replaced. Although the car runs better than ever now, it cost me over 8k at the dealership. If i get another five years from her, I'll be happy. To date, it has been my favorite v-dub to drive by a longshot. With the 3.6 vr6 engine I get about 300hp. Never been stuck in the snow, and never left me stranded. Took a road trip from Pennsylvania to Colorado back in 2022 and the car was a real gem on that trip. Aside from tires, oil changes, bulb replacements and brakes/rotors- I've never had an expensive repair bill until now. If it had not cost me almost the same price I paid for the car five years ago to have the timing chain service done- I'd gladly give five stars. There is classic VW rust on the front and rear quarter panel lowers, despite having been garage-kept. I am in the Northeastern US.

Love this car!
Pros

Blast to drive!

Cons

Constantly repairing lighting issues.

This car offers everything you could possibly want in a car! It's luxurious, comfortable, economical and quick! Making a right or left turn from a stop I find it difficult to NOT smoke the tires! Absolutely the most enjoyable vehicle I've ever owned! Denver to Keene New Hampshire on three tanks of fuel!

Great Performer. Always in the shop
Pros

Very good driving car, but buyer beware.

Cons

Always something wrong with the engine/sensors etc

Car looks, feels and drives great! Quick enough to get up and go. Have had to replace coils, sensors, trunk electronics (trunk wouldn't stay closed) and two water pumps in the five years I have owned it. Have to take it to the shop in order for it to pass emissions. Check engine light is perpetually on. Have had to have it repaired for some thing or another twice per year for the past five years. Bought it with 50k miles. Definitely a Love/hate relationship with this car.

Fun to drive Sexy Sporty Sleek Sedan-instant power
Pros

Fun to Drive, fast acceleration & reliable engine

Cons

back seat area kind of small in their design

The sleek lines and beautiful 2 tone interior and all the extras on this lovely VW, and you can't ever go wrong with long term reliability with VW and fun driving. FWD is something I can't live without and this car has instant power with the Turbo Engine. I have babied this car and kept it regularly maintained inside and out, from cosmetic to engine to wheel items. Low mileage when I purchased and I've kept the same on it and has LOTs of fun miles left. Turbo has always been maintained and use injector cleaner since I've had it....staying smooth and fast instant power on the pedal. Lots of room in the trunk for a sportier executive model car, nice wheels Aluminum alloy wheels, newer tires many miles left, regular maintenance at VW and local on oil changes and tire rotations. Low Profile car, all the perks, backup camera, bluetooth, navigation, eyebrow/eyelash lights fog lights, 2 tone beige and black seating and extra wood touches on doors and lighting for entrance and exit at night on the doors, beautiful sexy sporty sedan.

Great daily driver
Pros

Great styling

Cons

Expensive to repair, but doesn't happen often

Good looking, larger than most cars of this size. Folding rear seats. Cornering lights. Backup camera, nice stereo, blue tooth, hands-free phone, 25 city/32 MPG.(Super). Nice interior, good visibility. I have Enkie wheels, JVC Apple and Android Auto play, cold air intake. You do the maintenance it will take care of you.
