Positive Review

"I love my car!"

This was my first car that I got when I was 16. I am now 23 and my car is still reliable! Have had to have minor, normal wear and tear work done over the years (breaks, timing belt etc). Few electric issues such as my driver's side seat warmer doesn't work and my cruise control stopped working about a year ago. But overall, for how old it is, it drives nice and being able to put the top down isn't too bad either! :)

Critical Review

"Worst thing I ever bought"

I always wanted a Cabrio and finally decided to get one with 92k miles on it. It literally has been in the shop more than I've been able to drive it. It looks good on the outside and has heated seats and is a cool little car but I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone. I've broken down and had to replace so many parts over the span of 3 years; my father is a car mechanic too and told me repeatedly to not get a Cabrio but I didn't listen. I just sunk so much money into this thing. Way more than it was worth. So, hope this was helpful to someone who wants to listen, unlike me.

My 5th Cabrio
Pros

Gas mileage

Cons

Poor placing of cup holders

I love ❤️ Cabrios. Standard has more power than automatic and better gas mileage. I currently have two 2002 models that are both automatic and a 2000 that is standard love my standard.

Nice convertible
Pros

It IS fun to drive. Easy to park

Cons

I wish mileage was better than the 25mpg.

Mileage okay. It’s really a two seater, and a big guy fits comfortably. By using the garage the top,

Great commuter !
Pros

good gas, fun, mostly reliable, good radio

Cons

exhaust system, trunk opening

I have always loved older Volkswagons and I thought I'd look cute driving one. I bought this car 5 years ago with 86000 miles on the odometer and it hasn't given me a reason to not trust it to commute. I commute about 40 miles total a day (20 to and from work) and only recently it started giving me problems. The roof is starting to become a bother due to the new leaks and my fuel pump is starting to fail. I just had to get it towed for the first time due to an unexpected shutdown of the car. At the time I didn't think about what could be wrong with my car only that it stalled and wouldn't start. The man who towed my car home said that he drove the car onto the bed of the truck. Soon after the man at the shop said that it was my fuel pump and that they sometimes do that when they start to fail. I knew something was bound to go wrong when you have a car that is 19 years old and hasn't broken down in 5 years. The car is very fun to drive due to the fact that it is a convertable. The 2.0L I4 engine is excellent on gas getting 30ish miles to the gallon highway. The interior is very well designed other than the fact that the center console is a little close to the E-brake handle and over time it slowly works its way loose. I have the Monsoon audio system and love it. The treble and mid-range are great but the bass isn't as good. The seats are heated and are nice in the winter. The AC hasn't given me any other issues other than adding coolant here and there. I did go the cheaper path with my catalytic converter. I just smashed out the cadmium and reinstalled the empty pipe, I need to fix that right soon. The trunk does seem tiny in pictures but is a lot bigger than what meets the eye. The only con with the trunk is that the opening to the trunk, It is hard to fit many things bigger than grocery bags through that opening.

I love this little car. Sporty and fun to drive
Pros

Fun car

Cons

High mileage makes for lack of confidence on trip

Great little car. I would not want to have this as my only transportation but it is fun to own and drive. High mileage makes me question making long drives I enjoy tinkering so enjoy this car.

Prima Donna
10/28/2016
I love this car, but I really should get rid of it
Pros

makes me happy to drive

Cons

my cabrio is an expensive prima donna

I bought my 02'cabrio after my divorce and before my mid-life crisis.Lol. I always wanted the volkswagen rabbit convertible back in high school, and now I finally have my car. Several expensive repairs later, I really should consider selling it, however, the minute I get in my cabrio, it makes me happy!! I love to drive this car along the beach roads at sunset. So, that being said, since it is my second vehicle, I guess I will keep it around awhile. I asked the cabrio to please just give me 6 months in between repairs. The deal seems to be holding up so far. Lol
