Positive Review
We purchased 4 Motion, SE with Tech, a week after lunching the brand new Atlas model. Here are the pros & con of useful features: Rain Sensing Wipers: Very active and rain sensors are just right, driver no longer need to pay attention on the wiper system while driving. But driver will not see the road once windshield washer system is activated because of the spray pattern of the nozzle which block the driver view. LED Head Lamps: There are 2 Low beam headlights at each side which is very rare, most cars have just one light housing for low beam. But I think because of the LED light spectrum, driver cant see the light from the vehicle until surrounding is almost completely dark. Driving Dynamic: Handling is amazing, Atlas is such a huge car but handling like a small car. In the parking lot, driver can make a 90 sharp turn in a small space, parking is easy. Engine is very responsive and gas pedal sensation is very sensitive and accurate, which is really fun to drive. Breaking is also good. Climate Control System: AC is perfect, ventilation system is very good reaching all over the 3 roll seats. Vent outlets at 3rd roll seats too. Heated up the seats really really quick. But by manufacturer design, whenever restart the engine, vent/recirculate mode switch it back to vent mode, so that bad smell could penetrate into the cabin. MPG/Octane: I got 22/23 mpg on highway/city mix driving. 87 minimum octane is required but when I used 89 and above, engine is much more active and aggressive and fun to drive around town. Tires: Its come with Continental all seasons tires with thread life of 480 which is not bad at all. But I have noticed that there are some rolling noise regardless of speed, but it wont bother to the most people and wont disturb the stereo. Stereo: I have standard stereo but it is amazingly crisp and balanced sounds. Dashboard lighting at night: Not bad, clearly see all making and switches at night. Cruise Control: It comes with adaptive cruise control which is working well. But cant switch to regular cruise control system. Because of the steering wheel contour and very small cruise control feature buttons ( 5 of them) they are very difficult to press. I mean they are facing at uncomfortable orientation angle. Overall Opinion: Atlas is a HUGE CAR and everything is BIG, but cheaper price compared to other same size vehicles. I like it very much despite some sort of inconveniences. This particular model come with 6 years/72K miles bumper to bumper warranty so that nothing to worry about reliability issues.
Critical Review
First of all, I loved my BRAND NEW Atlas when I bought it. Every time I walked up to it for the first two weeks, I thought man, that Tourmaline blue R-Line SE w/ Tech Atlas is beautiful! It looked so much better than the vehicles around it. Then I went to fill the tank up. The fuel door fell off. Okay, no big deal. I put it back on and kept going... only to find that EVERY TIME I FILLED UP, THE FUEL DOOR FELL OFF!! Just one small annoyance compared to what happened after. Next, my vehicle starts taking longer to start up. I thought it may be the change of weather. My remote start isnt working either but I just figured I was doing something wrong when pressing the buttons. No big deal, right? WRONG. The next day, I load up my almost 2 year old and 6 month old and get ready to take them to daycare and go to work. MY CAR WONT START! It tries turning over, but wont fire! What in the world? I try 7 times before finally! It starts! I go drop the kids off at daycare and then head straight to the dealership. Mind you, I sell cars for a living, so any time spent out of work is money out of my pocket! I drop my vehicle off and am given a ride to my dealership. I get a call saying its a fuel pump and they need to give me a loaner. I get picked up and go back to the VW dealership... more time away from my work! I am told the fuel pump is on an intergalactic backorder and that it will take over a month to possibly get the part in. One person has already been waiting 3 weeks for one. WHAT??? So they give me a Passat - a 400 a month car!! So I am still paying my 800 a month for this vehicle, which at this point I hadnt even made my first payment yet, but driving a tiny vehicle! I immediately call VW of America and express my concerns. I get in contact with the new car manager at the dealership and he works his magic and gets me a part from another dealership overnighted and I get my vehicle back within two days. This was the dealership working for me, NOT VW OF AMERICA. I go back to happily driving my car..... for two weeks until ANOTHER problem! My car starts acting funny again and my freaking fuel door is STILL falling off every time I get gas!! WTC?? I take it to the dealership again.... Its a purge valve! So they replace that.... I make my first payment and call VW of America about this service visit. I tell them something needs to be done about this. Their response? Oh, we have fixed it according to warranty. Thats all we can do at this time. If it happens again, let us know. What? Okay. Fine. Only two issues, whatever, they have to work the kinks out I guess. I go on my merry way, driving my beautiful car that yes, I did still love. I wake up about two weeks later ON MY DAY OFF, get the kids ready, put them in the car and start it. I hear this loud, ungodly noise from inside my car. I open the door and its even louder! I go to the front of the Atlas and the noise is SO loud! I took videos of it, sent it to some guys in service and they said Thats not good. Drive it to the dealership NOW GREAT. So instead of enjoying the day with my kids, I drop them off at daycare and go to the dealership. I spend over half the day there for them to tell my its the cooling fans and motor... What. Oh, and they dont have a loaner but I can still drive my car... They tell me Hey, its going to take over a week for this part to come in. Drive your car and if it starts to over heat, pull over and call roadside assistance to tow it here. I LIVE IN THE SOUTH. WHERE IT IS 90+ EVERY DAY IN THE SUMMER!! So let me get this straight, you want me to drive around with my two babies in the car and if it over heats, pull over and call roadside?? And sit in my over heated car in almost 100 degree heat?? WITH MY BABIES??? Youre crazy!! Finally, after getting with the person who sold me the car, I get a loaner. I call VW of America and ask again for my vehicle get bought back or replaced or something! Because I no longer feel safe in this vehicle! There is clearly something wrong with my Atlas! CR&R Rep leaves me a voicemail to call her back. I call her back within 15 minutes. Conveniently, she is already out of the office. Of course. I call her EVERY DAY FOR A WEEK. I leave voicemail after voicemail to PLEASE give me a call back! While waiting for a call back, my start stop error keeps coming on but no check engine light so the service tech tells me it should be fine. So still waiting for VW of America to call but my husband and I load up the kids and one of their big power wheel trucks into the Atlas for a day at the park on my day off, which is precious time because we both work 50-60 hours a week. I start the Atlas and guess what... check engine light. I bring it straight to the dealership again and they put us in a 2017 Tiguan... We try to fit the power wheel in the Tiguan and we cant. Park day cancelled. I have yet to hear from the dealership on what is wrong with my vehicle, which is understandable as they may be waiting to look at it due to other customers being ahead of me. In the meantime, I decide to try calling my CR&R rep at VW of America again. I get a voicemail that says she is now out of the office until July 2nd.... So she couldnt return my phone calls all week and now she is out of town for a long weekend? Lolol okay. I do the online chat with a customer care rep and am told that KIM L IS THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS MATTER! Okay.... VW of America sells MILLIONS of vehicles in America. Hundreds of thousand, if not millions, just in my region -- I AM IN THE SAME CITY AS THE PLANT!! And there is only ONE Customer Retention Rep in my region? ONE??? Is this some kind of joke? So I cant get a hold of anybody that can actually help me... So I decided to write this review of my experience with the VW Atlas. I would like to emphasize that the dealership has done everything possible to make me a happy customer but VW of America has failed miserably on this one.

my mom has this and i want it to be there forever, price is good and seat warmers are super nice, MPG is not great but whatever, its the best SUV i heard of in my 32 years of living
I bought my 2019 VW Atlas SEL premium after owning a 2017 Toureg which I truly loved. The Toureg saved both mine and my wife's life after bashing through trees and almost running off the side of a mountain in Colorado. I decided that I wanted to stay with the same vehicle or at least close to it as I could get, unfortunately the Toureg was discontinued in the US after that model. That's when I discovered the Atlas and even though it's somewhat a different vehicle it has proven to be a very good vehicle for she and I. Yes it was a little pricey by comparison to other similar makes but after 83,000 mi, it is like brand new and serving us well. My wife is no longer with me now but The Atlas still is and is a pleasure to drive both local and long distance. I've had zero problems with it and it is just as comfortable and dependable today as it was a day I drove it off the dealer lot. I also think that the 2019 and possibly the 2020 models were the best years. I like the V6 engine. I feel that anytime you try to use a smaller engine to push a heavy load you are looking for trouble and longevity problems down the road.. just keep it service properly and you should have no problems
Space, functional third row, decent gas mileage
Fuel mileage, limited towing capacity
Bought our SE w/ Tech, V6, FWD new in 2021. Have been impressed with the quality and reliability. More than enough space for trips to IKEA or loading up the family and going to the beach or mountains. Makes long road trips easy with decent handling and a fairly smooth suspension. Unlike some of the people leaving reviews, have not had a single feature in the vehicle not work, and the two recalls (one for door lock wiring and the other for a missing page in the owner’s manual) were accomplished at the dealership when getting the oil changed. Didn’t inconvenience us in the least. The brakes do get rust on them overnight and the squeak the first few times you apply them in the morning. I’m showing 22.6 mph long term over 38,000 miles. Not great, but not horrible for a full sized SUV. A odd quibble of mine, I wish the steering wheel was thicker. Such a big vehicle and the steering wheel feels petite.
Size and Comfort
None
I bought the Atlas because of its size and comfort. Took one seat out and placed a wooden panel down for Queen mattress. Plenty of storage now under bed platform. Have it stocked for emergencies. Large sunroof is very nice. Pretty smooth ride for size and easy to drive.
It looks nice
Bumpy ride, features do not work half of the time
The ride is incredibly bumpy and rough. It’s quite horrible. Also, most of the cool features only work half of the time. For example, the kick open trunk so that makes it kind of pointless if it’s going to take forever to open
We bought our 2018 Atlas from a dealership as a CPO in 2020. It's been a great SUV for our family! It's a very smooth drive and components feel strong and well-made. As a one-car family, this SUV has been easy for everyday driving but has also served us well for some great road trips. Our model has captains seats in the second row, and a two-seater third row. Since we often have two car seats in the second row, we've been able to comfortably fit grown-ups in the third row for short trips. Both rows fold down easily and have been a huge benefit for moving furniture, trips to the hardware store, or taking yard waste to the dump. The infotainment system can be a little clunky to use for changing some of the vehicle settings and without an adapter, you have to plug in to use car-play, but overall it's intuitive for most uses. The CPO warranty has just ended but that along with VW recalls have covered any of the work that's been needed so far (luckily nothing major!).
Beautiful car, great asthetics, but that's about it. My 2024 Atlas SE w/tech has been in the dealership 3 times just for the exhaust now. Sounds terrible, after providing recordings, VW and dealership acknowledged issue, but now say there is currently no fix. So, I have to deal with it. Additionally, my radio/dash computer system had a pink ribbon and stopped working. That had to be replaced, and new equipment updated. Can't imagine what I could have paid if it wasn't under warranty (took 2 full days) After having a recall in my 2019 Atlas for airbags and now issues with this new 2024 at just 14K miles, I will look elsewhere for my next vehicle. Happy I leased instead of buying. Hope this helps make your decision!
seat warmers, 3 rows and a big car for a big famal
none
the volkswagen atlas is a great car for a big famaly and seat warmers are one of the best but the underwhelming engens anda so-so fuel econamy sour the atlas's famly frendly apeal
