Critical Review
You want a vehicle loaded with problems such as rotted frames and difficult to trace evap system leaks, you have found your vehicle. Not to mention Toyota has not and will not reconcile the frames they have pawned off to the consumer. I bought this truck thinking they were built better than the competition. Wow I was wrong on so many levels. I have owned 9 vehicles in my life and this was my first and last Toyota. I had to pay over $11,000 to replace 90% of the metal on my frame because Toyota refused to own up to the problem. They continue to build these trucks with a horribly designed frame and poor rustproofing. My 89' Sierra lasted well over 15 years with only some minor body rust (frame had mild surface rust). With this truck barely 9 years old I could stick my finger through almost any part of the frame. Toyota managed to get away with not having a public recall for this generation so they were honor bound to send out notifications to owners of the vehicles to have the frames inspected and an additional 15 yr warranty placed on them from date of manufacture, however, if you go to the forums and consumer affairs you will see that more than a couple slipped through the cracks of Toyota's due diligence. Since I don't have a few million lying around to start a law suit the only thing I can do is pass along the info and keep others from making the same mistake I did. I will never again buy a vehicle from this company. My neon was more reliable and rust proof than this stupid thing.

This truck is always ready to provide perfect service without any worries. Very few minor repairs were made so far, mostly cosmetic stuff. In 2009, I paid $7700 with 35K original miles, now has 105K miles. Gets about 30 mpg on the open road. It's a keeper!
Easy to work on and a great truck. Best one I ever owned. Never changed any major part like fuel filter, alternator , starter. Just fluid changes and belts, basic stuff
The truck everything is original. There are no major damage, just the paint is old and faded. Everything runs well.
unmatched reliability
Bit underpowered
Driven this truck since new 175k, original clutch still. Needed a wheel bearing and out tie rod once due to an accident with no frame damage. Otherwise this only mechanical repair I made. Still drives great and clutch engages well. The 5V-ZFE engine runs a long time and this one is no exception. I swear the oil never turns real dark, I do sythetic 2x year.
We have had our 1998 Tacoma in the family for over 20 years and it has NEVER broken down or had any issues what so ever. The most reliable car you can buy! We love Toyota!
Bought my 1996 Toyota Tacoma in 1998 with 3500 miles on it already. This is 2024 and it still fires right up and running good. Haven't changed any major parts on it and now It has 400K+ miles. Best "get you where you want to go" and reliable vehicle I have ever had!
reliable
needs outside work
This is a very reliable truck. I have owned it for 20 years. It is not in perfect condition on the outside, however engine and transmission are in perfect condition. Have not used it much during the last 5 years since my retirement.
