Positive Review
I purchased my Sienna used from the guy that owns the parts store that I use. It was his wife's personal car. Undoubtedly, he didn't know the value of this van, because he let me have it for $3900. This is at least a $6000 van, folks. I test drove it several times, mostly because the mileage was quite high at 185,000. It drove and rode like a dream! We have taken several long road trips in this van and it hasn't let me down once. The only thing I've had to do to it (besides normal maintenance) was to put an alternator on it. That was the first replacement alternator the van had ever seen. All the seats are long-haul comfy, even the back seat. Mine has 2 sliding doors and four captain's chairs, with a split bench in the back. The paint is glossy and all the hardware works. The only thing I've found that doesn't work is the cd player. It keep kicking the cd's back out without playing them. Otherwise, I'm one happy camper and would recommend this great minivan to anyone. The Sienna is by far greater than Caravans, Odysseys, Windstars, Sodonas and everything in between. It now has 195,000 miles on it and still going strong.

excellent
1mz-fe engine sluge and could use bigger brakes
The 1998 Toyota Sienna has plenty of room and lots of horse power. It has the most horse power in its class . Toyota Sienna can go well over 300,000 miles strong 321,975. Just keep up with the maintenance . The 1mz-fe engine is the same as you will find in Lexus cars . The only issues that seems to come up is oil sludge in the 1mz-fe engine but I've had no issues with my 98 Toyota Sienna . The 1mz-fe non-interference engine is best rather than the 1mz-fe vvti engine on the 1st generation Toyota Sienna
Original owner, excellent interior, never involved in an accident, always kept in garage, 7 passenger, cloth interior, slight hail damage in 2023, gold trim , SLE, new battery and starter.
Unbelievably dependable; LG interior; style.
None?!?
2003 Toyota Sienna CE. Just ONE repair service in the 18 yrs I’ve owned it (I bought it used in 2005). I loved my former Mazda 626 (kinda sporty for a sedan), with its wonderful sun roof & very comfortable bucket seats, but the Sienna has served me MUCH longer and has a lot more options for practical function for me. For 10 yrs now I’ve had my back seats out & have used my van more like a covered pick-up. Now, these days, I can’t see going back to a lower stature vehicle. There are too many SUVs, trucks & vans that obscure your view when you’re riding lower. I immediately felt much more safer once driving a minivan where my visibility is as good as most other drivers (forget the monster RAM & Ford trucks, tho!). Before I got the Sienna, I felt very vulnerable in dense traffic not being able to see & being surrounding by taller, massive vehicles (i.e. I felt like I was a ‘sandwich’ waiting to occur….which actually had happened in ‘92, but just not totaled. And that was only after a year of having the vehicle!).
Great for long trips and very comfortable
Needs trans mission work
This van is very clean. New tires and new brakes. Engine runs great. Unfortunately reverse gear is slipping and needs transmission work. No problem with all forward gears.
Few small hail dents. Small hole in front grid. Ne
performs well on long and short trips Dependable. Smooth.
It's a Toyota with only 150000 miles
It's 23 years old
Okay! I may have exaggerated the all five star down the board thing, but not by much! This is a 23 year old Toyota Sienna that I found a great deal on via FB from a private seller. It only had 143000 on the odometer and a price tag well below the $2000 max I was set to pay. She wasn't/ isn't perfect. Like myself old but low mileage, First thing I had to replace all four tires, but that was worked into the price. This vehicle runs so smooth I love it!!! The motor train is solid! The engine and transmission still per like they're supposed to. I did have to replace the starter one month after driving it, but that was relatively inexpensive and pretty easy to change out. Now the plastic parts all around the vehicle, seem to be randomly breaking, cracking, or just snapping off. I guess that's expected in a vehicle that's screen 23 Summers and winners of extreme temperatures. Dry rot I guess. The parts I'm speaking of so far, have been, both inside door handles, the small plastic piece that covers the air conditioner on button, the passenger side mirror cover, broke off about halfway down, while going through a car wash, There The plastic handle in the back passenger side seat that's used to recline, has stripped out. The plastic clips that hold the "Hood's support rod" have totally disintegrated. That might have been more of a detailed list the necessary and I'm not complaining, but if you're looking to purchase a 1998 Sienna this gives you an idea of what to expect. One last note I have replaced the entire stereo system on vehicle, but that was really a small expense and actually a fun project. I'm pretty sure my van at one time had automatic sliding doors, but at some point of its life the motors have been taken out. But with that said the doors do slide back and forth smoothly and lock into place where they're supposed to. The power locks are still working, but can stick occasionally. There is moderate rust on the bottom frame, I'm assuming the van was probably being used up north somewhere. And finally there are a few chips in the paint all around, especially around the hood and a couple of big ones on the side, but overall the paint still looks like it's in pretty good condition. I recently noticed brakes beginning to squeak, I'll have to look in to see up with that. But office issues are small and inexpensive. It's never let me down in the 9 months I have owned it. I feel confident that it's going to start with no problems every time I get in it. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase. I've got it cleaned up, it smells good, it looks good. I have the stereo upgraded and sounds great! it's one of my better purchases that I made in the last few years. I personally, highly, recommend any Toyota at 150,000 miles! You're just barely broken her in at those miles. I wouldn't be surprised if this van outlived me and I'm 62. Thank you for staying with me till the end.
Reliable
Body
My brothers have owned Toyotas for years and the engines definitely outlast the body. Everyone should know that!
Reliable. Don't make them like this anymore!
Road noise.
It is a workhorse. Original engine and transmission. Last of the CD and cassette vehicles. Pushing 521,000 miles.
