Positive Review
I had a 2013 Prius that I replaced with this Four Touring. The handling and ride is much better. Because I purchased a more expensive model, the features are also better. Things that I really like: Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Dynamic Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Better Rear Camera and Object Closeness Warnings... (It triggers each time I pull into the garage). Minor Plus: QI Charging for my Cell Phone. The MPG is much better than my prior Prius. When I drive to work, I usually got in the low 40's. Now I get in the low 50's. I like them moving the P/R/D stick. Negatives: I miss some of the storage that I used to have: 1) The Split Glove Box.; 2) The Storage Space under the Carpet in the Back. Overall, just a better car.
Critical Review
This is a great car, it gives you fantastic mileage and it seems very reliable. Toyota's flagship hybrid car does what you expect it to do. Now, there are a few EXTREMELLY annoying features on this car that will make you think about it twice before buying it. Firstly, the beeping: You are going to have loud beeping for almost anything you do, being the most irritating the one when you hit reverse. It's piercing, loud and cannot be heard outside of the vehicle, which kind of seems kind of idiotic. Why would you want an annoying loud beep sound INSIDE of your vehicle when you are in reverse mode? To warn you that you are in reverse mode? but you are the one hitting reverse, so you know, and as you are going back, you still know you are going back, so why a beep? I still have no answer for that, but it makes parking very unpleasant and it CAN NOT BE SWITCHED OFF. I repeat: IT CANNOT BE SWITCHED ON, E.V.E.R.. Also, every time you open the drivers door, you also get a LOUD beep, and it CANNOT BE SWITCHED OFF. Guess what? You already know you are opening the front door, because you are the one doing it! So, why that loud beep? yep. Surprisingly, you can exit the car, close the doors with your remote still leaving the car on, and it will remind completely silent, even though that WILL FOR SURE HAPPEN to you at some point if you never owned a keyless car. I can guarantee you that. There is a nice screen that allows you to read text msgs from your phone and even play video and watch pictures. However, it will not do that unless you car is stopped (and I believe the engine is off). So even if the co-pilot decided to watch pictures in the larger screen from their phone or just use the screen during a long trip, they cant do it. This feature cannot be overridden either. The car basically treats you like you are 4yo and it's loud. I have been driving for 20 years, If I buy a car, I want a car, not a baby sitter with a loud piercing horn. Period. Another thing is the location of the main panel. If you are tall or average height, your right knee will hit it. I get it, this is not a big car, still there are other ways to configure the inside so things don't get in the way. While that may not be a big deal as you drive test it on the dealer, it will became painful in a daily basis. I can also guarantee that. In conclusion, this is a great car, with a terrible built in computer. If we could just switch it off all together and just drive the darn thing, it would be a very valuable vehicle. But that's not the case.

GREAT CAR VERY VERY LOW MAINTENANCE COSTS 61000 MILES AND JUST CHANGED TIRES. OUTSTANDING MILEAGE AND RANGE. TWO ISSUES: TERRIBLE BLIND SPOT BUT MITIGATED BY BLINKERS IN OUTDOOR MIRRORS. ROAD NOISE ON HIGHWAYS COULD BE IMPROVED. I LOVE THIS CAR.
XLE trim level is excellent
No Apple Car Play
This car is just what is needed for city driving, it sips gas and is by far the most stylish Prius to date as of 2019. Toyota reliability and longevity are keys to my decision in buying.
Mine was a 1 Owner. I took great care of it and it never let me down. Always serviced on time. 65k, only had new tires, brakes still good.
I bought a 2006 Prius and didn't replace it until I bought a 2016 Prius which I still have in 2023. Both cars have averaged 55 mpg over their lifetimes. As with many Toyotas, they rarely (if ever) have any mechanical issue and only need routine maintenance. I can't say enough good things about this car. I'm not sure about other reviewers who have an issue with the beeping while in reverse. I understand this to be a safety feature as the gear shift appears to move into a neutral position once you've selected your gear. So you could accidentally bump the gear shift into reverse without knowing it -- hence the beeping warning. Seems reasonable to me.
very reliable transportation! no repairs
slow to start
you would expect a reliable car as long as you maintain it. do not expect a fast car, but it will cruise along on th freeway.
MPG/hybrid
Everything else
This car is not up to par for what I’ve come to expect from Toyota. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone with all the other hybrid options there are available now. There is no spare tire/no space for one. They don’t inform you of this when purchasing. Huge reason to bypass this car. The included jack couldn’t fit under the car with a flat tire… so that was helpful. Everything about it is loud (XLE). Road noise is very loud. The beeping and alarms are annoying and can’t be stopped/silenced (for example, say you have short arms so you have to pull up close to the drive through window - the alarm will sound the entire time you are there and you can’t stop it). There’s even a space ship sound that you can hear from/outside of the vehicle - why they made a once very quiet car sound like a space ship I have no idea. Not much about the dash/interior makes sense or seems functional. The cup holders are too small, the dash/surrounding area of the screen is shiny so it reflects light in your eyes, the screen randomly turns off/reboots and is hard too see in too many situations to be acceptable, the usb connection is right by the cup holders and the slightest bump disconnects your phone, the seat warmer buttons are right next to the cup holders and have no guard/protection so turn on or off at the slightest bump, they left a gap behind the wireless charging station so the phone can fall nicely behind it, the arm rest is an odd height/nowhere to rest your arms. You have to change the time in two separate places. Also, there’s not really much storage - the cup holders in the doors don’t work with most cups, especially cups without a sealable lid. The seats are uncomfortable for long trips (the leather option). The seat shape is uncomfortable and that extends to the design of the headrest (it forces my head forward if the headrests are left on). There’s almost no lumbar support, they have a button to increase lumbar support but it doesn’t go out far enough to be effective. They also don’t go down enough, in the front, to be comfortable. The back gets really hot even when the AC is freezing the front two seats. Not a great option for getting air to small children/dogs in the back seats. The extra two stars are for the MPG/gas savings.
Comfort and quality

One of 2020! This anniversary edition is even more limited because it is Supersonic Red. It seams like Toyota works hard to keep you in their cars. This car averages about 51miles per gallon year round without sacrificing comfort and quality. If you did not know you were in a small car you would think you were in a big car! Simply a beautiful car that does everything you need it to do!
All function good and good maintenance. Internal and external keep in good conditions. available for you anytime.
