"Best small car"

Three years ago, we test drove a Prius but we didn't like it. It was noisy on highway and the cargo size was something between small and medium. During the last 4 months, I test drove Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus (Sedan), Nissan Versa, Hyndi Elantra and Accent, and Honda Fit and Civic. Ford Fiesta has a small backseat but unfriendly dashboard, however the dive was better than Honda Fit; more horsepower with a better dynamic. Ford Focus backseat was not significantly different from Fiesta's but the drive was smoother. I didn't expect that much of wind noise from the legendary Civic EX. Even though it looks like Versa offers a bigger space, its interior was not as sporty and as live as other cars and the power was comparable to Prius C. Both Elantra and Versa are quite powerful with more interior option at a lower cost but the rear view was not good at all. Compared to Fiesta and Focus, Prius C offers a bigger backseat, smoother drive, less road noise, a much better interior, almost no blind-spot, and more options (Bluetooth and automatic climate control with air filter for all trims). I really like the drive; much better than the original Prius that we test drove 3 years ago. The Prius C cargo space is smaller than all other cars but if you buy one for what it's built for --City, you don't need that much of cargo space. I have gotten up to 70mpg in city and an average of 54. Such a high mpg is due to a small engine; nonetheless, The power is good enough to get you on highways and turn fas on the road crosses. It's better to have the right amount of power than to have too much of it and that's why you can save money in long run. According to my calculations and considering EPA mpg and available discounts for above cars, 5-years cost to own of Fiesta or Focus were just couple of hundred cheaper than Prius C's (gas price = $4), so it all depends if you need more power or you think that the gas price will go higher and you want to save couple of hundreds. In general, I am very happy with my choice.

"OK Car"

Prius Persona - $30k. Gas mileage is not as promised which is the main reason I bought this car. The only way to achieve the advertised gas mileage is to drive around 45 mph or drive a combination of a truck driver and my grandpa. That is to say you have to drive like a truck driver by driving slow uphill and use momentum to gather 'free' speed downhill. And like my grandpa for driving slow to get the most mileage out of a gallon of gas. If you drive normal you will only get about 31-36 mpg - not 50 mpg. In that case it is not worth the extra money for no bang for the buck. There are plenty of cars out there that get gas mileage in the 30-36 mpg range for less money. The interior is made of cheesy looking plastic and 'pleather'. I have the Persona version that was advertised as coming with heated seats. The dealer said it does not come with heated seats. Who lied? The dealer or the manufacturer? It is especially not worth it if you live in hilly areas. It will be difficult to obtain decent gas mileage. I travel 70 miles freeway round trip for work on rolling hill terrain and it is impossible to get 50 mph unless you use the techniques I previously discussed. Had a couple times when the car acted freaky by making a weird sound I never heard come out of a car before. I quickly shut the car off and restarted it and the sound was gone.

Great Vehicle, Trouble WIth Bumps

The mileage makes gas drastically cheaper. We usually only have to refill it once a month and it's mostly used for driving to school and back. It's extremely tough and was hardly affected by a few incidents where we accidentally backed up a little too far. And the metal on the doors only got bent after one time I couldn't get out of a parking garage without scraping a pillar. We've had no issues that weren't due to wear except for one: Part of why my mom gave it to me was because she now lives on an island with bumpy roads and tall speed bumps. It was also severely rusted after being there for about a year or two. Which, granted, happens to most cars. But I suspect that the rust coating got worn off on the bottom when it got scraped. My mom enjoyed the Prius before she moved to the island and primarily used it to commute 20 miles and back to work. Enough that she got three used ones. I'm confident that this car will last long enough (as in, approximately 14 years) for me to graduate and get a job that will allow me to buy my next car. Which may also be a Prius.

The Little Hybrid That Could
Pros

Efficient, reliable

Cons

Small, not powerful

All of our cars are named after dragons, and my little black 2012 Prius C is named Toothless. I bought him new in 2013 and after 11 years I can honestly say he's the best car I've ever owned. He isn't big, he isn't fast, and he isn't luxurious. But he is efficient, and thrifty, and reliable like you wouldn't believe. Consistent 55+ MPG performance. One oil change a year. Zero mechanical problems or maintenance issues, year after year after year. What else could you possibly ask for in a dragon... er... car? Thanks for all the years of loyal service, Toothless.

Great car!
Pros

Great on gas, kept me safe in a crash, faithful

Cons

Everybody wants it

This was my favorite of all the cars I have owned during the last 45 years. I actually cried when a @#$%^$# crossed double yellow lines to take the front end off my car. It was totaled but I was able to get out and walk around after the crash. Good car, Great car. RIP Hazey. Looking for another one just like her.

Excellent car!
Pros

affordable, great mileage, compact, no repairs

Cons

not for tall people, low to the ground, slow

Pros: Great mileage, 50-60 mpg if you're not a speed demon. Excellent city car that can fit into almost any parking spot. Affordable. No repairs needed, just routine care. Cons: Slow to pick up speed. Big hills cause the engine to really tax itself. Low to the ground, so it's hard to get in and out of as you age..not to mention the car door is always getting stuck in the ground after you sit down. Not for tall people because your hair will rub the roof of the car.

Best decision I've ever made in a car!
Pros

Love everything about it...

Cons

brighter back interior light

I wanted a car that was fuel efficient and had the best mechanical record and after searching every article on the internet, I decided on the Prius c. I bought it as a left over and the only complaint I have is the interior lights are too dim in the back when you are looking for something at night. So I have a flashlight there. Otherwise I could not be happier with it! Very fuel efficient, very quiet and dependable motor. I've been driving it for 8 years and have not had one mechanical issue. It's as quiet as the day I bought it and runs smoothly. I LOVE my prius!!! And I take good care of her with maintenance. I hope she outlives me. I'm 75 this year! I'm hoping for another 15 years at least for both of us!

Best Car Ever!
Pros

High MPGs and Rock-Solid reliability.

Cons

Ride good but not cushy/Cabin noise but not awful.

I've owned a lot of cars over my years, and the 2013 Prius C is the best car I've ever owned. My spouse is in agreement with that as well. We bought this car brand-new and it's ten years old now. History of Our Repairs, as follows: --During the seventh year the passenger side taillight burnt out, replaced bulb. --During the ninth year the driver's side taillight burned out, replaced bulb. And that's it for ten years of delightful service. The traction battery is in excellent shape because we still get the same gas mileage as when our car was new. We believe that our Prius C will continue being a reliable car for many more years.
