Positive Review

"My only annoyance is that I paid $15000"

This is a good car. The sound system, seats, drive and so on are all Lexus luxury quality, which makes sense because it's a $60,000 car new. I got mine in August 2020 but I wish I had waited until now when my car would sell for $11,000 - $12,000 and not the $15,000 I paid for it. I'm a little concerned that these will pile up in the dealership and eventually drop to like $5,000 in price. But then again, some people paid $60,000 for this car so I got a great deal relative to them. Regardless of the price, I got a great deal. First of all, there is a huge benefit to refueling in a few minutes instead of charging your car. I can drive my Mirai from LA to San Francisco, and back to LA, and back to San Francisco all in one day, refueling in LA, SF and a city inbetween. You can't do that with a Tesla. You also don't have range anxiety, like "I can't drive far today because I have to charge the car." Drive 1000 miles in a day. I already have more than enough hydrogen stations in LA, 3 within 5 miles of me, but more are being built so that'll be even better. Even at the $15,0000 price I paid, this was a great deal. You can barely get a 2017 corolla for that price (with no free gas). But still, I wish I had waited and paid $3000 to $4000 less and I'm concerned about how far the prices will keep dropping.

"I CANNOT UBER WITH THIS JUNK PRD FAILURE"

First off, as per kbb, I'm trying to focus on the car and not the person but I was lied to when I was told that with "free" fuel I could uber and pocket almost everything. I had bought mine on Craigslist for $3800 as the value at that milage was around $4,200 on KBB. The owner assured me that for $3800 I got myself a clean air vehicle and around $7000 in free fuel. I thought I was the smartest and luckiest person at the time. Those that are conned never want to believe they have been conned. But honestly, $6000 that I have shelled including insurance (1200), this loss of a 6000 has ruined my life. I had to work 4 summers to save this amount. I was going to use the car to make money while attending g college. Now I have no money and no car. Why? First off you cannot UBER with 4 SEATS. 2nd, fuel card is not transferable private party. Third: This car has a pressure relief device in the case of emergency the car has to release hydrogen. I went over a speedbump at around 7mph and for some reason either I must've hit a rock or something but the PRD tripped and shot out all the hydrogen. Oh my goodness. I was so scared. I thought I was in a mini tornado. Thankfully I wasn't hurt but the car was immobile and I had to tow it on a flatbed, yes, it cannot be towed regularly but on a flatbed. Initially the order was to be changed, yet somehow the tanks did not pass inspection? How would you even inspect the tank.? The mirai has 3 tanks and each tank is around $7k without installation. So you're looking at 21k for just 3 tanks alone. I am utterly devastated. I sat on the curb the other day crying, because why? I now owe the city $150 so far in parking tickets because my car was dropped curbside. It is. Like someone said in here a brick. I am thinking of a way I can put sliders on each wheel so I can push my car across the street when the street cleaner comes. Not only has this car wrecked me monetarily, physically, and emotionally. Toyota ruined my life.

Do not Buy hydrogen cars

❌❌❌☠️☠️ WARNING- Do not buy Mirai or any Hydrogen powered cars due to ridiculous pricing of Gas and poor resale value of vehicles .Do not fall in trap with 15k free gas card .You get a same car with 75 percent less value at car max with no free gas card . You will be spending 36 dollars per KG which is very expensive than regular gasoline and you will be spending one dollar nearly for each mile you drive .Is it not cheating ??And also, you have to drive far to find gas because most of gas stations do not work or having pumping issues . I am educating car buyers about risk of these cars and you going to suffer financially and mentally. Please take feedback of any Mirai or other Hydrogen gas car owners and you are going to get same feedback. Beware of free gas card and you will be spending it in months due to high Gas price . Thank you ❌❌❌❌❌☠️☠️

Biggest scam in automotive industry

Toyota Mirai is the biggest scam in automotive industry. This is statement of the fuel consumption: “Mirai has a total range of 502 km (312 mi) on a full tank. The MPG-equivalent combined city/highway fuel economy rating was 66 mpg‑US (3.6 L/100 km; 79 mpg‑imp), making the Mirai the most fuel-efficient hydrogen fuel cell vehicle rated at the time by the EPA, and the one with the longest range.” But how they got this numbers? I know how) This is brief form Toyota prospect: “Fueling your Mirai with Hydrogen 1 kg of H2 has approximately the same energy as 1 gallon of gasoline” But the forget about one thing - 1 kg of H2 equals 6.46 gallons. Therefore a full tank of H2 equals 32.3 gallons. Now we know the normal units of measurement and now we get the truth. Calculate fuel consumption in miles per gallon using the elementary school approach: 312/32.3=9.66 mpg! This is a real equivalent of the gas consumption. 9.66* (1kg of H2 =6.46 gal) = 62 miles Now count the $/gallon cost. 1 kg of H2 cost 29$ that means 29/6.46= 4.5$ So if get the same tank capacity (32.3) for my 5.7 HEMI with 13.2 mpg I’ll get the range 32.3*13.2=426 miles. No way! The old 5.7 HEMI more effective than ultra new luxury progressive hydrogen engine. Meantime cost of one gallon premium gas on Shell with membership 5.09$. That means I’ll spend 165$ on HEMI for 426 miles. Let’s count cost for same mileage on Mirai: 426/9.66= 44 gallons. 44*4.5=198$ for the same mileage. How it’s possible?! I said how - it’s a math) Without a fuel card Toyota Mirai is worth nothing. And that’s why is the biggest scam form Toyota.

fuel stations are headaches and all the time broke
Pros

smoote ride

Cons

4 seat

fuel staa fueling stations are constantly out of broken frequently for a week. The prices went up $8 per kilo. The milage range is about 225 miles. Due to Covid and lack of access to Hydrogen fuels could not drive that much and utilize the free fueling that much. GPS navigation is so complicated and does not work properly. The gadget board is so bad design which seat warmer keep goes on when you move something in cup holder. Trunk is small and not in proper shape to fit things. it is 4 seats.

For those who seek the future
Pros

Stylish, Eco-Friendly, Fast Fueling, Quiet

Cons

Expensive, Lackluster Range, Limited to California

The Toyota Mirai defiantly should not be an impulse buy. I strongly recommend you do your research into just what you are getting yourself into. It is a new technology so as with any other new technology there will be hiccups along the way. So let's break it down: 1. The Car: The car itself is really nice, I personally love the body of it. The seats are very comfortable featuring bucket seats with driver

Sorry No
Pros

Nice care, inside and out

Cons

Not enough gas stations or fuel

The car looks nice inside and out and I would rate it higher if I could actually drive it. The stations are either offline due to maintenance issues or they are out. I will put it this way, I have owned it two years and have only used $2000 of the $15,000 gas card.

Good luck finding fuel
Pros

Great concept

Cons

Availability of fuel

The car itself is a great concept - green, comfortable, quiet, smooth. No issues with the reliability or performance. Where this car fall short is in the availability of fuel. Three fundamental factors here 1. lack of infrastructure - there just aren't enough stations. Toyota continues to promote, sell and lease the vehicle beyond the ability to support. There just aren't enough fueling locations or pumps. Additionally, the supply of available fuel has been outpaced by demand. Twice I have seen Mirai's on tow trucks waiting in line for fuel. 2. Reliability of the fueling stations. At any given time 30-50 percent of the stations are off line for maintenance. this adds pressure to the remaining stations compounding the issues above (lack of stations and available fuel). 3. Time to refuel each vehicle takes ~10 minutes to re-fuel on a good day and this doesn't count the 30 - 60 minutes of waiting in line. Some factors here, hydrogen is compressed and is very cold. This almost always causes the pump connection to freeze and get stuck to the vehicle - meaning you cant get it off the car and need to wait for it to thaw. Additionally, there is usually a period of 5 minutes or so between the time the car ahead of you finishes and the time the pump is ready to fuel the next car - the pump even has a countdown timer. The bottom line is the concept is great and the vehicle drives nice, but refueling will consume your life. Better to wait for more reliable infrastructure to support before considering a Mirai.
