Positive Review
I like the style of this car inside and out. Looks pretty nice for a Toyota. I have had this car for 2 years and haven't had to do anything except take it in for regular oil change/maintenance. I love the amount of space you get with the rear seats folded flat. The 1.8 L is good on gas but not as good as I expected it to be. It really sucks gas in the winter. The acceleration is acceptable for the size of the car but it is no race car. Not really fun to drive but it gets you from point A to point B. I don't find the seats very comfortable especially on long trips. There is a lot of wind engine tire and cabin noise especially at freeway speeds. There are a couple of blind spots with the rear pillars but you can get around this by adjusting your rear view mirrors. The brakes seem to wear out quickly. This car has a great resale value and costs very little to maintain. Great value for the money and I'm sure it will be good for many miles to come.
Critical Review
Bought this vehicle new from the dealer. It drove great, had great maintenance record. At 24k miles it started smoking, the dash lights lit up and the brakes failed. I used my emergency brake to stop, exited the car and it burst into flames. Investigators believe it to be the ECM/Fuse panel. Toyota refuses to accept responsibility because the ECM/Fuse panel is destroyed. I've owned 3 Toyota's and had 20 yrs of loyalty to their company. No more.

Plenty of interior space, Gas mileage, etc
Rattling noise while driving
I have had this car for about a month or so. It’s a great car with plenty of interior space to haul anything. The seats have plenty of room and space to sit comfortably. And it gets great gas mileage on the road too! Only problem I have with it is the rattling noise while driving but other than that it’s a great car to have!
Great car, got it brand new, don’t drive much any more, just replaced the battery! Been very reliable.
I love this car. A friend talked toe about Toyota Matrix. I immediately felt in love and is longing for it
Reliable, fuel efficient, quick to heat and cool
Noisy, cheap materials, uncomfortable
This car is cheaply made. It doesn’t even have power seats. Very loud 4 cylinder motor, loud road noise, and just an overall low quality feeling. However, it’s a freaking Canadian built Toyota. I mean….the car will probably run forever, but if you’re looking for comfort or quality, look elsewhere. PS, this car gets little or no respect on the road. It’s embarrassing.
fun to drive
None
This car is as good as the 2004 Matrix I had previously, which was also an excellent car. It’s not meant to blow the doors off sports cars, and it won’t, but for my purposes, it’s fast enough. It doesn’t have a backup camera or some of the other high-tech features of more recent cars, like a lane departure warning system or MP3 player, but neither of those is really necessary, and as far as I’m concerned, there are enough bells and whistles on this car, including traction control and Bluetooth capability. There’s plenty of storage space for my needs, and the all-wheel drive makes the car easier to control In lousy weather. It’s not an off-road vehicle, but I’m not looking to climb over boulders. In my opinion, this is a great car for the money.
GOOD
Reliable, good hauler, cheap on gas
Regular A to B transportation
The 2009 Toyota matrix base is a car that takes you from A to B, comfortable? Regular for the trim, fast? It does the job when entering a highway, it's a ten glln tanker that's lasts almost two weeks on a 9 to 10 miles Back and forth basis, Very reliable!!...regular maintenance in 8 years of ownership!!...for last? Sorry for Toyota that killed the model...
Reliable drive to work
