The 2022 Toyota GR Supra is a thrilling rear-wheel-drive sports car that’s available with the choice of turbocharged 4-cylinder or turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. Performance with either engine is quick, though it’s the 6-cylinder that gives the Supra the means to challenge rivals like the Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche 718 Boxster, and Audi TT.
Though to be clear, the car that comes closest to matching the 2022 Supra is the BMW Z4. No surprise, Toyota and BMW collaborated and cross-engineered these two sports cars.
The result is an incredibly poised performance machine, though one that feels a little generic — strangely enough, the Supra feels more BMW than it does Toyota.
Is that a bad thing? Probably not for car shoppers who simply want to get pinned into their seat when they hit the gas pedal, and attack corners with abandon.
The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors, but here's a general idea of what buyers are currently paying for used 2022 Toyota GR Supra models when purchasing from a dealership.
Original MSRP | KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
$44,535 | $42,207 | |||
$52,885 | $50,209 | |||
$56,035 | $52,025 | |||
$64,275 | TBD |
For reference, the 2022 Toyota GR Supra originally had a starting sticker price of $44,535, with the range-topping GR Supra A91-CF Edition Coupe 2D starting at $64,275.
We’ve already mentioned the agile Supra lives for twisty roads and will streak down the road when the accelerator is floored.
The turbocharged 4-cylinder has plenty of punch for most people. It sends 255 horsepower to the rear wheels courtesy of an 8-speed automatic transmission. Apologies to driving purists out there, the Supra is not offered with a manual transmission. You’ll need about five seconds to run from zero to 60 mph with this engine.
Putting the turbo 6-cylinder under the hood cuts that time by about a second.
If you really want high-speed thrills, this engine upgrade is definitely worth the premium. Not only does it bring along more power and stronger Brembo brakes, but the 6-cylinder Supra also comes with an adaptive suspension. The ride remains firm, though this setup better takes the edge off rough pavement.
The 2022 Supra’s interior has room for two, and not much else. You can’t fault a 2-door sports car for having a cozy cabin — it’s pretty much expected.
What helps set the Supra apart is that everything looks and feels extremely well executed. The plastics and leather used in the cabin feel up to this car’s price tag. The front bucket seats hold you firmly in place during hard cornering, though they don’t feel too constricting for anyone lacking the body type of an Olympic gymnast.
On the other hand, getting in and out of the Supra requires dexterity. This low-slung coupe sits close to the ground, which is great for the car’s center of gravity and its cornering prowess. But if you’re tall, be certain to make a few attempts at getting in and out of the Supra to guarantee it’s a comfortable fit.
The standard 8.8-inch infotainment screen is user-friendly and comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity — Android Auto is still a no-show, however.
Upgrading from the 4- to the 6-cylinder Supra adds interior touches like power-operated seats, upgraded audio, and navigation.
The 2022 Supra stretches only about 173 inches in length and is less than 51 inches high. In case you don’t feel like breaking out a measuring tape, we’ll let you know this is small, even for a lithe sports car.
This gives the Supra a taut and muscular look, particularly since the body is full of bulges and swoops everywhere you look.
Is it traditionally pretty? Well, ahem, no.
The 2022 Supra’s best angle is probably from behind, where the pert tail makes the car look like it’s ready to spring forward.
From the front and sides there are too many fake air intakes and disjointed surfaces. Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and you can’t fault the Supra for not making a design statement. In our opinion, some things are simply lost in translation here.
A91-CF EDITION
Granted, this is an entire model and not a stand-alone feature. But it’s great to see Toyota isn’t letting the Supra stagnate and collect dust. The A91-CF adds exterior carbon-fiber trim along the front, sides, and rear of the car. A small carbon fiber rear spoiler is also fitted, as are matte-black 19-inch alloy wheels.
The only thing missing is a power upgrade. While it’s limited to only 600 examples, the A91-CF has the same horsepower rating as the regular turbo 6-cylinder Supra.
STANDARD AND AVAILABLE SAFETY FEATURES
Buying a sports car doesn’t mean you don’t have a sensible side. Every Supra comes equipped with active safety features like forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, rearview camera, pedestrian detection, and automatic high-beam headlights. Optional safety items include blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and head-up instrument display.
The 2022 GR Supra comes standard with the turbo 4-cylinder and 8-speed automatic transmission. That’s great, but what else comes along for the ride?
In terms of comfort, safety, and tech items, the good news is that the Supra is very nicely equipped in base trim. An 8.8-inch infotainment screen is compatible with Apple CarPlay, plus you get satellite radio, a single USB outlet, Bluetooth, and 4-speaker audio system.
We’ve also pointed out every Supra comes with an impressive roster of active safety features, which is something you don’t often expect when shopping for a performance car.
The biggest option is the choice to upgrade to the 382-horsepower turbo 6-cylinder engine, of course. With this powertrain, a Supra buyer can add features like blind-spot monitors, front and rear parking sensors, 12-speaker JBL stereo, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Many of these features are grouped into the Safety and Technology Package, available on the GR Supra 3.0, or the Driver Assist Package on the 3.0 Premium trim.
The 255-horsepower turbocharged inline-4 was a new addition to the Supra lineup in 2021, so the powertrain choices remain unchanged in 2022. The entry-level engine is peppy and the handling is slightly lighter in feel, thanks to the car’s lower overall weight compared to the turbo inline-6.
Yet, it’s this 382-horsepower engine that awakens the Supra spirit. Extremely fast in a straight line and glued to the road in corners, choosing the optional turbo-6 is money well spent.
If you’re on a tighter budget, however, the standard engine is perfectly fine and delivers better fuel economy, too.

Rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors
In a car like the 2022 Supra, which sits low and has limited outward visibility, these safety items are invaluable. Not only can they help prevent an accident, they make parking a less hair-raising (and bumper-bashing) event.
Adaptive/dynamic cruise control
While the Supra is snug in terms of cargo room, that doesn’t mean some owners won’t take longer road trips in it. Having adaptive cruise control takes the stress out of long drives by automatically maintaining a given speed and set distance to any cars ahead.
