The 2025 Toyota GR Supra is a sporty coupe with a fantastic engine and driving dynamics to match. Pricing starts at $57,345.
The words “Toyota” and “thrilling” don’t usually appear in the same sentence, but then the GR Supra is anything but usual. This car is a joint project with BMW, the Munich manifestation being the Z4 roadster. They’re built alongside each other in the same Austrian factory. This assembly gives the GR Supra coupe the distinction of being tuned by BMW’s highly talented suspension engineers and powered by an awesome BMW 6-cylinder engine.
Toyota launched this generation of Supra for the 2020 year. GR refers to Gazoo Racing, derived from Toyota’s motorsport activities. For all its magic, the GR Supra appeals to a limited set of buyers. Those who answer the call, however, will find plenty of positives.
We’ve logged hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of coupes, including the Toyota GR Supra.
Toyota has ditched the 4-cylinder engine, leaving just the 382-hp 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder unit as the sole form of propulsion. The top 3.0 Premium version has been the most popular choice anyway.
The 2025 Toyota GR Supra has a starting sticker price of $57,345, with the range-topping GR Supra 3.0 Premium kicking off at $60,495. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $745 to $1,274 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

Although the 3.0 Premium has been a best-seller, we think the base model still has enough standard equipment — including an adaptive suspension — to remain worthy of consideration.
The GR Supra is, in many ways, the hard-top version of the BMW Z4 roadster, which starts several thousand dollars higher with the same 3.0-liter engine. We also suggest looking at the Nissan Z and the Ford Mustang GT Coupe, both starting in the mid-$40K region.
Before buying a new GR Supra coupe, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Resale values are strong and comfortably above the class average. Remember, recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.
The GR Supra is based on the same platform as the BMW Z4 convertible, sharing many components. And BMW sure knows how to make a driver’s car. Since the GR Supra is essentially an enthusiast’s machine, we’re happy to get enthusiastic about the car’s turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine. It generates a thumping 382 hp and enables a 3.9-second sprint to 60 mph (automatic transmission; the manual manages 4.2 seconds). With either gearbox, that’s faster than the 400-hp Nissan Z.
The GR Supra also has agility and precision, with a fine balance, thanks to a front-engined/rear-drive configuration. An adaptive suspension is standard for a wide range of driving between commuting comfort and track-ready control.
The 2025 GR Supra achieves 26 mpg in combined city/highway driving with the automatic transmission. That’s a 4-mpg advantage over the equivalent Nissan Z. A manual-transmission GR Supra runs to 21 mpg combined, close to the corresponding Z’s 20 mpg combined.
There’s seating for two in the GR Supra. It doesn’t bother adding the almost-useless small rear seats often found in other coupes. It’s still not especially spacious, but that’s to be expected from a machine whose main aim is sportiness.
Carbon-fiber trim pieces, simulated suede upholstery inserts, and the digital instrument cluster emphasize this aim. Because the GR Supra is a joint project with BMW, it also gains some switchgear that’s a bit fancier than the usual Toyota fare. Our only real complaint is that the wide rear pillars hamper outward vision — blind-spot monitoring is optional. Oh, and more sound insulation would have been nice.
Luggage space is something of an afterthought in a car like this, but the GR Supra’s 10.2 cubic feet will hold a couple of weekend bags. We also like the handy hatchback access and the wide aperture.
The GR Supra comes only as a coupe, so it has that typical (yet still evocative) long nose/sloping roof profile. Some aspects of the design are functional, like the vents that help keep the brakes cool. And there are two humps in the roof to maximize headroom. The more aesthetic aspects we’ll leave to personal taste.
Engine
The GR Supra has the same 3.0-liter inline-6 cylinder unit offered in the BMW Z4. In our opinion, this is a good thing — we’ve found it to be lively, refined, and relatively efficient.
Infotainment system
Like the engine, this system — based around a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen — comes from BMW. It’s user-friendly and recognizes voice commands well.
NASA membership
No, not the space agency (wouldn’t that be cool?), but the National Auto Sport Association, which is cool in its own way. Everyone who buys a new GR Supra also receives a 12-month free NASA membership, ticket discounts for NASA-sanctioned events, and a high-performance driving experience.
Manual transmission
Manual transmissions still have an allure. They really do enhance a driver’s involvement with the car. A 6-speed version is available at no cost. BMW doesn’t offer one in the Z4, so this gives the GR Supra more enthusiast credentials and comes with a rev-matching function on the downshifts.
Adaptive suspension
Standard equipment, this sport-tuned adaptive suspension makes the weekday chores pleasantly comfortable while sharpening reactions on a weekend track day.
JBL audio
A 12-speaker/500-watt system is standard in the top Premium trim or optional with the base model. JBL has a great reputation and is owned by the same parent company that includes Mark Levinson — the supplier of excellent systems in Lexus vehicles.
The 2025 GR Supra employs a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, developing a muscular 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. This engine is linked to either an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration times and fuel economy are better with the automatic, but some purists will always love a stick shift. Rear-wheel drive is the sole configuration; there’s no option for all-wheel drive.
Toyota’s basic new-vehicle warranty is for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first, with powertrain coverage of five years or 60,000 miles. These are usual terms from mainstream manufacturers. Toyota also includes free maintenance for the first two years or 25,000 miles and two years of roadside assistance with unlimited mileage.
The GR Supra hasn’t been crash-tested by any agencies in the United States. Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.

Toyota will say goodbye to the current generation of the Supra with a final edition that smooths out a few quirks.
No one should mistake a car for a solid investment. Cars fluctuate in value, and no one can crash into…
In the run-up to this year’s Japan Mobility Show (formerly the Tokyo Motor Show), the most buzz-worthy teasers came from…
Yes. Not only that, it’s an inline 6-cylinder configuration, a setup virtually synonymous with BMW. It’s a turbocharged 3.0-liter unit making 382 horsepower (that’s the official number, but BMW tends to understate its engines’ actual outputs) and requires premium gasoline.
No, rear-wheel drive is the only setup in the GR Supra, which should please most enthusiasts.
Yes, the GR Supra holds its value exceptionally well compared to similarly performance-oriented machines.
