Most Reliable Vehicle I’ve Ever Owned
Pros

Great for off roads

Cons

Not the best gas mileage

I have had this car for about four years and never had major problems with it. Always gets me where I need to go. I have driven halfway across the country in this 4Runner. Almost 300,000 miles and still no major issues.

2008 4 Runner

I bought this vehicle new for my daughter in high school. She still drives it now (10-2024) with 176,000 miles. I own other Toyotas myself and a F-150 supercrew cab. I don't have to tell you Ford is not my top choice but Toyota is.

2004 4 runner the champ;

I have a 4 runner 2004 limited edition and I love it. These 4 runner you can not kill them ...they are ancient SUV no matter if they are 2023/2024 models they have the same concept...they are old but they are tanks that keep going and going....if you are looking for a super reliable SUV you should definitely put it on your top list the 4runner. Hey... it is a Toyota!!! Ask a mechanic and He will tell you that 4runners are one of the BEST SUV you can get for your money

2006 Toyota 4 Runner

I just bought a 2006 4 runner and I absolutely love it! It has over 200,000 miles on it but it runs great and still in great shape! Rides better than the newer ones do!

Best truck / SUV that you can get

If you are looking for a reliable truck / SUV. Get a Toyota 4runner, you will be very happy you did. I had a Tacoma and I loved it...I sold it because I needed a bigger truck (my Tacoma was the base model with just the bench seat) I sold it and got a Toyota 4runner and I am extremely happy. Very reliable...as long as you stick with Toyota, you are getting an excellent vehicle. No matter what brands you pick....They all will break down one day, but the difference is with a Toyota that doesn't happen as often as the rest. don't believe me?....ask a mechanic and He will tell you the same thing!

2nd 4runner
Pros

Everything except 2 cons(easily fixed)

Cons

Gas pedal lag/front end droop

I have had an 07 and now 08 4runner, both V8. I love the truck for so many reasons. The ride is smooth yet still has a truck like feel, it handles great in snow and off road. The towing capabilities are great. The back seats that split/fold come in very handy for hauling things. Love the soft close hatch and the sturdiness of the whole vehicle. Nothing cheap about the 4runner! Overall a 10+ in vehicle overall. I get almost 20 mpg overall and have bfg all-terrains on it. Also level kit to bring up the front end droop. Looks and drives wonderful. Lag in gas pedal fixed with pedal commander. A+!

Expensive to maintain
Pros

The V8 has some towing capability

Cons

reliability, transmission, rust, fuel economy

Of all our vehicles, this 2UZ has been the most expensive to maintain and the most problematic. Parts are more expensive for our 4R than our BMWs, VWs, Audis, Volvos, and Porsches. It’s definitely a headache keeping up with the issues and zero codes. Problem after problem and leak after leak have to be self-diag’d and monitored. We like how it’s fairly capable off-road and has decent towing capability (2UZ only); but there are better, more reliable SUVs that can do better. The common issues of seizing brake calipers (even when swapped to 5th gen), binding driveshaft u-joints, rust, coolant leaks, unreliable auto trans, axle and bushing failures, headlight wiring, etc seem to plague pretty much every 4th gen 4R. Toyotas have some of the worst fuel economy of all manufacturers, and the 2UZ is no exception - averaging 9-11mpg (mostly highway). Still better to get 10mpg in a V8 than 12mpg in a V6 imho. Interior is cheap and simple - very Toyota and it’s fine. Seats are somehow very uncomfortable and are terrible for driving long distances in. Headroom lacks at rear bench, but there is decent overall trunk space in this vehicle. The auto opening rear window is a very nice perk (just don’t defrost it!!) and very quintessential 4R.
