Positive Review
At 327k, I finally had to invest in a new re-manufactured motor...she finally blew up. Too bad the 90-95 4Runners suffered from the head gasket/design flaw headaches. I'm at 380k+ now, and the "Black Pearl" is as strong as ever. I'm glad I went with the 5spd. manual trans makes all the difference in the world. Probably 80k off road Baja miles. Toyota should make a commercial about me and give me a new 4Runner at 1/2 price!
Critical Review
I bought mine a year ago, I've had to repair it constantly. If you're looking for something that you can jump in and have fun, or even get to work on time, keep looking. If you're looking for a project, go for it. This toyota has NO room to work in though, the engine is completely crammed in.

Off road, reliable, comfortable, roomy
Gas mileage
I have had many cars in my life and the 4runner is by far the best car I have ever purchased. I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off. It has so much space, easy to mod and work on, does amazing off road and is the most reliable vehicle made. It’s no race car, but I drive like a normal, patient person so it does just fine for me!
Needs timing belt to run and drive.needs window switches and back window. Brand new tires, great vehicle, strong motor and good gas mileage
Drive anywhere through anything
Seat low
I'm second owner and I've always thought these were cool, after 3 years with mine I'm still happy, perfect for running thru town or the mountains, versatility is unmatched by anything else. Very dependable, highway/interstate power lacks as does acceleration from dead stop, but these things are not designed to run 80mph all the time, off road it creeps thru the most harsh terrain without the slightest struggle. If I had to post a negative comment it's the driver's sear being to low although it's adjustable, I placed a small patio pillow to sit up a lil higher. Great vehicle and quality, they ,the 1st and 2nd generation are getting rare.
Very reliable
none
Owned it for 20 years. Smile every time I look at it and drive it. Its been carefully maintained and cared for. Ultimate sport utility
Reliable, comfortable, good for long trips
Not the best gas mileage
My husband bought this car before we met and we will have it forever. It is a 95 with a lot of miles on it, but has never left us stranded. We take really good car of it and it takes us anywhere we want to go.
Takes a licking, keeps on ticking
Automatics are gutless. Head gasket problems.

Doesn't drive like a sports car
I bought this car new in 1992. It's never left me stranded, and repairs have been minimal. Mileage is close to what it was when it was new. I've carted all sorts of stuff with it, and towed a trailer multiple times. Given that it was built on a truck body, it's reasonably comfortable, even for long drives. Great vehicle.
