Positive Review
My wife loves her Subrau Baja and swore she would never part with it. Two grand kids later we needed something with more room. She test drove the Outback and decided it was just too big for her and she couldnt get excited about it. The Foresters driver seat just didnt fit her comfortably. The 2018 Crosstrek has proven just right. She loves the comfort, handling, quiet cabin, adaptive headlights, Eyesight safety systems and the bright Sunshine Orange exterior and gray interior with orange contrast stitching. When I told her she needed to drive the Baja so I could wash her Crosstrek she gave me a dirty look. I guess you could say she is very happy with her Crosstrek (Crusher). Im very impressed with the performance and mileage (even during break in). The Crosstrek is averaging 33 MPG on the second tank of gas. Motortrend just did a comparison of the Crosstrek against a Nissan and Jeep and confirmed the Crosstrek is no slouch. It had the fastest acceleration to 60 MPH. I know the Crosstrek is faster than our Subaru Baja with its 2.5L engine. The Crosstrek gives us about 5 inches more legroom in the backseat over the Baja without sacrificing legroom in the front. The only con is limited storage behind the backseat. With 2 car seats in place you are limited to 20.8 Cubic feet of storage. Next week we are putting snow tires on Crusher for the winter. The Baja was exceptionally secure with snow tires during winter driving. My wife is hoping the Crosstrek does just as well. No car is perfect yet the Crosstrek does so many things well it will be hard to find anything in its price range that delivers a better total package.
Critical Review
You can buy a new electric suv, or a car for the same price as a gasoline subaru. Gasoline vehicles are taking a huge resale value hit. This crosstrek car is going down. Only vehicle that is holding it's value are trucks. Sorry to Subaru, they are finished no more gas vehicles 2025.

Bought a 2018 Premium in 2021. Drove from California to Florida no issues at all. Drives smooth and as long as you take care of your car it will take care of you. 2025 and till this day I've not had 1 issue with this car wife drives it everyday and I can put my mind at ease that this car will not let her down.
Gas mileage
No auto liftgate
Love all the features and rides great on my dirt road.
good in all weather
a little ugly
I bought this car new in 2018, base trim and manual transmission. It's been paid off for a few years now. I've felt safe and confident in all weather conditions and my husband and I have went on many long road trips in it. I highly doubt that gasoline powered vehicles are going away in my region anytime soon and this car will be my daily driver for years to come. I love the color, but it is beginning to chip. The styling could be better, but it suits my persona (kinda bland but very proficient). It is also a bit laggy when accelerating from a stop, and the engine will hesitate when it's hot outside and it's been running for a while. I probably would have gotten a used Lexus if I had to do all over again, but I do understand why people love Subarus.
Quick for a small vehicle
I havent found any yet
I have the 2022 Crosstrac for about 3 years now and I really love. I did get the larger engine which makes a big difference. The cargo area is small but I'm one person and if I need more room, I flip the back seats down. So far no mechanical problems.
Resale value, engine, transmission
Continuous service problems. Not a reliable enough vehicle to own. Plus the resale value is poor. The ride has a weird suspension feel. I'm glad I traded this vehicle in before the value gets worse.
Safety, styling, interior space.
Not comfortable to camp inside.
Was in an accident in my 2022 Crosstrek Limited today. 1st one ever in 25 years of driving. Another driver ran an extremly stale red light and I unfortunately t-boned her Dodge Ram 1500. Only injuries sustained were some whiplash (me, driver) and a bruised knee (passenger). All airbags deployed keeping us alive. I have owned my Limited since 2022 with 6 miles. She totaled out today with 74k and I've only replaced the battery and alternator due to my aftermarket add on requirements. No leaking oil, no cvt issues whatsoever. Drive your vehicle as if you want it to last not a race or rally car and keep up on your normal maintenance like any vehicle owner should do and this vehicle is fantastic. Previously owning Hondas and Toyota's my experince with Subaru has me saying I'm going to be buying another Subaru FOR SURE!
the crosstrek is the perfect size for our needs.
Simple design, AWD standard, good gas mileage
First name basis with your mechanic
I have had my Crosstrek for 5 years. I am a higher mileage driver and have just shy of 100K miles on the vehicle. All routine and regular maintenance have been conducted and in the last year at just over 90K I had a Cam Seal Oil Leak (common problem for Subaru's and with boxer engine a trained mechanic has to take out the engine to reseal the leak and put engine back together. While the part only costs $14 the repair cost $3K-7K depending on mechanic for labor costs and you will not have your vehicle for at least one full work week). Fast forward a few months and Camshaft broke (another $3K-4K repair depending on the mechanic). So an initially attractive lower MSRP is simply paid for later. I could not afford a more expensive vehicle at the time of purchase; fortunately, I am in a financial position to trade in this vehicle and purchase another more reputable brand. I will not return to Subaru for another vehicle.
