Positive Review
My husband is 6'6"& I am 5'9". We bought the B9 as it was called back in 2006. We have 180,000 miles on this vehicle. I did my research when we had a baby & we must have our children in a rear facing child safety seat. I dragged that child carrier all over the place trying to fit it in vehicles & still be able to drive without eating my knees. If I ate my knees I knew my husband would. For the price under $30,000 it was in our price range & we weren't pretzels. Loved this vehicle even more when we no longer needed an infant seat. This vehicle has been up & down the East Coast, has traveled to the West Coast & back. It has ALWAYS been comfortable & great to drive. This B9 has been in 2 accidents & still is great. My husband does as much maintenance as possible & and all has been good. Now at 180,00 miles we have hit our first snag & that is a misfire in 1 of the cylinders. My husband has had nothing but frustration with Subaru from getting an accurate manual etc.... Being a wife I tell him to take to a mechanic but not until he spent $1000.00 in tools & parts. he gave up. I hope to have our Subie back home soon because it will be taking another trip from East Coast to West.
Critical Review
This car started of great as a 1 yr old lease turn in. obtained an extended 100k warranty and put it to full use after 55k. Extensive nickle dime issues with cooling system, steering, brakes and belts and little leaks. after 100k we ended up putting over $8,000.00 over 3 yrs into repairs through dlrship to keep it road worthy. Even so, the engine blew due to overheating caused by dealer workmanship. dlr placed new engine for free then 8 months ltr tranny blew. dlr wanted $5800.00 for repairs or recommended we get RID of our TRIBECA! We got rid of it and the "REPUTABLE Dealership" in San Diego. Not the SUBARU name all speak of!

Solid reliable awd
Gas mileage low
I am the original owner. We purchased this suv bc of third row seating to transport many children and did not want a mini van. I have driven through many bad rain and snow storms and have always felt safe. I have put 149,000 miles on it to date. My suv has NOT been in the service center very often. The only issues I have to say I had is that headlight bulbs and windshield wipers have to be replaced often. I have received recalls on this vehicle and they have been fixed with no issues before or after.
Best handling AWD SUV in its time.
16/21 mpg
Reliable, efficiency and one of the best iconic Subaru AWD system in the automobile industry . Medium size SUV fit seven passengers.
Awesome vehicle
Leather interior hard to keep clean
One of my absolute favorite SUVs, I have owned nothing really majorly wrong, as far as everybody talking about gas mileage, you guys must drive with the pedal to the floor, I live approximately 15min from work, and I can drive there and back for two weeks on one tank.
AWD, balance of utility, comfort, performance
gas mileage could be better
I love the car overall. Our main family car is a minivan but I sometimes need to haul 3 kids + wife + gear and this does the trick. It is smaller than Explorers and similar so driving it solo, which I usually do, is more like driving a nice sedan than a station wagon. It is a perfect 2nd car for a family man.
Seats seven. Uses regular gas.
Annoying frustrating.
Subaru gives you good value for money. AWD is standard on all models. It also has a cult like following. Which I do not understand. I have been driving more than 45 years. With a motorcycle license for 40 of those, and years of racing experience. I know and like cars. The Tribeca is punishing to drive. Slow heavy steering. Criminally poor visibility. Unintuitive controls, a snatchy throttle and low end gas mileage. Certain controls are difficult to reach. Such as the gas cap release. You have to open the door. The front seats seem designed to frustrate. Everything heads for the space between the seat and console. If you make any effort to retrieve it, it slides under the seat. So you have to stop the car and get out, open the back door and crawl under the seat to retrieve it. The side mirrors are large, and form a big blind spot. Which is made huge by the poorly designed A pillar. Even though there is a small window there, it is angled forward towards the windshield, and away from the driver, so it is useless. The trunk has a release that is set too high, so unless you are very tall, it is difficult and awkward to use. The hatch only opens a little bit, not popping partway as you would expect. If you do not do it perfectly and grab it as it releases, it relatches. Very frustrating. Just an aggravating, frustrating SUV to drive with no upside to balance out its flaws.
you said 1400.00. I got 4800. Glad I didn't listen
Safety, Good v-6 power.
Relaibilty of electronics, poor customer support
If you are considering purchase of this car pre-owned think twice. Nothing but problems after a couple weeks having this Subaru. Keyless Entry stop working ($800.00 repair), car radio (another $1,500). No way! I use my phone as radio. But for what I paid for this car should not have to replace radio at that cost. Water leaking into front headlight beam cover. Another $220.00 repair. I called Subaru for even a little assistance maybe 5% off repair. They told me to jump in the lake refused any assistance. Subaru cars are known for safety. But once the vehicle is past original warranty it's cost of maintenance skyrockets. Subaru demands expensive parts and nearly all repair work done at Subaru dealerships. If possible try to find Acura, Honda, Toyota if you want used vehicle.
Good in snow
Bad in gas, not reliable
Awesome in snow. TERRIBLE on gas. Worse than an f150 truck. Comfy. Handles ok. We had an issue with the computer, it was at the shop for 2 MONTHS while we tried to find another computer. Was a very tricky diagnosis. Also we have a bad rattle, probably the timing chain. Its just not reliable enough and its way too thirsty. It can tow half what a truck can for the same mileage. Big pro is the awd in the snow.
