It’s starting to I don’t know what they call it on the roof because of the sun so it just needs new paint basically. Things from parking lots. A few dings from parking lots but no accidents. Everything is cosmetic.

I’m writing this review mostly just to thank Scion for making a reliable vehicle that I can use when other cars fail on me. I got this car for free when my father retired and left the country, I learned how to drive in it. It’s a Toyota, essentially, and made well enough where even when all the lights are on the dash like mine (computer error), and it sounds like it wants to shoot itself, it’ll get you where you need to go. And then do so again, repeatedly until you die of old age. My 2012 Chevy Cruze has stalled out three times in five months, and every single time I’ve needed this Scion to get me to work, even if it hasn’t been started in a while, it turns over and off I go. If you can find a used one, they make for a great first car, or a good daily driver if your newer car is acting up. Grab one if you can, you won’t regret it.

Scions are the same as Toyota vehicles, very reliable. My 2010 Scion XD is a spacious and attractive vehicle. Maintenance is minimal, and they have a powerful engine to cross the country. My vehicle has 130,000 miles and looks and runs well.

My daughter owned this car and gave it to me. Its very liviely and has excellent Pick-up. She did not drive it much so it has low mileage.

I bought my 2013 XD in August of 2021 at a dealership in FL. with 56,000 miles. Drove her all the way home to Philly and fell in love! So much space for a hatchback, responsive handling in traffic and highway. Faster than you might think, unique and it's a Toyota! Installing a roof rack this weekend for all of my upcoming road trips.

Mechanically ok over the years but electrical problems show a few times Bodily weak Replaced bumper a few times Lasted and still running but some repairs were radiator water pump sparks and some parts I don’t know Unexpected breaking down

LOVE my car! Bought her brand new off of the lot as a commuter car for my husband. I chose her in our divorce. Road trips; Bellingham to Jacksonville, Florida & back to Anacortes 8 months later; Mount Vernon, WA to Palm Springs, CA & back; Conway, WA to Wichita, KS to Whidbey Island, WA & never one little issue! I have yet to change the brakes!!! And it’s a stick shift/manual!!! Only drawbacks? Road noise and lack of comfort!

With the 1.8L engine out of the Corolla, the XD takes the old school musclecar formula by putting a torquey engine into a smaller frame. Unfortunately, the old school 4 speed slushbox is not geared well, and takes a lot of fun out of the driving. After it's super tall 1st gear, the widely spaced gearing feels like someone just removed second gear and jumped straight to 3rd. It's really peppy off the line, and Toyota did a good job of tuning the torque steer usually found in FWD vehicles right out of daily driving, but once you hit 2nd gear on up, it feels more like a subcompact should and not the drag car it could have been. I bet those with the 5 speed manual don't have this issue. The suspension turns in fairly well, not as flat or as sporty as a Honda Fit, but better than most Toyota compact offerings. I bought the car at 80,000 miles and the shocks were non-existant, it wallowed like a hippo, and my lower back felt every bump in the road. I upgraded to a set of KYB OEM shocks and the ride was like night and day. WORD TO THE WISE - If your car is still riding on original shocks and you have over 80,000 miles, do yourself a favor and replace those shocks! The car handled much better, and my back isn't suffering as much. The steering is electric, not hydraulic, so it's very easy to turn the relatively small steering wheel, and for the most part it works fine. I don't care that I can't feel the road through the steering wheel because I can feel it through the thin seats up through my behind. Interior is nicely styled, the red guages are fine, and the layout is intuitive. The cup holders are small, shallow, and almost worthless. The center area where the parking brake lives is utterly worthless, except if you like losing things between the seats. There are not enough places in the car to put things like cell phones and wallets, and the dash is dimpled, so a lot of typical cell phone mounts won't work on this surface. With the rear seats folded flat I can shop for a family of 6 at Costco and carry it all home. I really like how the seats manipulate to give you truly flat cargo carrying, even if there is a large gap between the rear hold and the rear seats. The 2zr-fe engine is strong enough, but has had a lot of known oil consumption and leakage issues over the years, and I was lucky enough to get one with all the problems. In the 20,000 miles I've owned it I've replaced the timing chain gasket, the oil filter assembly, entire radiator, water pump, and alternator. Thankfully I was able to get in on the BG fluid system warranty and the radiator was covered, but all the leaks, alternator, plus new tires, shocks, and just regular service means I've dropped a total of $4K on a car I paid $2500 for. Eessh. This car is noisy!! Inside, outside, the engine, everything about this car cranks the decible level up to 10. I'm not sure Toyota installed an ounce of sound deadening in this thing. I have to turn the radio up so loud just to hear it, it almost isn't worth turning it on. With all its warts though, it's decent transportation, and has never left me, or the lady who owned it before me, stranded. The torque curve means it's not constantly downshifting on the freeway when you go up hills or go to pass, which is good, because did I mention the engine is noisy? All the power windows and door locks still work perfectly, it's never leaked during the rain, and the AC works great for such a small car. I enjoy the look of it, much more American styling than Japanese, which I like, even if it's not as sleek. There is a spare tire hidden under the rear of the cargo area, nice bit of engineering considering a lot of vehicles now aren't giving you a spare anymore, only fix a flat goo or something similar. There is a lot of hidden value tucked into this vehicle if you can get one with low milage at a good price. I wouldn't touch one with over 125,000 miles though unless it's almost free because these engines are not your Toyota engines of the 1980's and early 90's, they are not designed to last much more than 180,000 miles if you're lucky without a valve job, $$$$.
