Positive Review
I bought my 2016 Scion iA after my 2007 Chevy Trailblazer decided it wasn't going to participate in my daily life anymore. I looked into lots of used cars and found that for spending approximately the same amount, I could get a brand new Scion iA. For me reliability and gas mileage was important. I have nearly 9,000 miles and no complaints yet.The car is surprisingly fun to drive. For a subcompact, I find that this car performs better than expected and the body styling gives a sleek look. I like feeling sporty but also knowing I am getting excellent MPG. While the roadnoise is definitely audible, I don't think it is deafeaning by any means. Remember, this isn't an Audi! I have no problem getting to 75+MPH on the highway and merging/passing when needed. There are only two things I wish my car had: center arm rest and sunroof A cheap car with sport styling, great MPG, and a plethora of technology was exactly what I was looking for in my first brand new car.
Critical Review
Overall it is a great car. Runs well, has a great back up camera and is super quiet. However, I am having to change a tire before my first oil change, so make sure you get the tire protection. As of right now only one company makes the tire, and they haven't made many.

Minimal maintenance and drives decent on highways.
Expensive OEM parts
The car AC goes out after 4yrs since purchased date, the repair cost at around $3000. Maintenance is minimal, the brake don't last as long.
The car Shows trad in at 16000. To buy one cost show 16000 to over18000. Yet when I go to a dealer, they only want to pay 8000? What is going on? All the ones for sale have much higher mileage than mine?
Smooth running
Gutless, great for new drivers ( teens)
I used to drive a Scion xB 2006 which had over 200,000 miles on it I just kept up on maintenance and just replaced tires, brakes ran great should've kept it. A lot of room. I own a Scion IA now and have over 90,000 miles and just replaced the tires a week ago. Just been changing oil so far, everythings running tip top.
Good car
Gas mileage
Bad transmission issues, breaks easily
I love the gas mileage but my transmission started going out at 37000 miles ..my steering pin and sway bar broke before 20000 miles and my tires were messed up and needed to be replaced by 35000 miles.. im a gentle driver and I don't really go anywhere .. I love my car but I dont recommend it
Bluetooth technology, option to upgrade GPS nav.
Poor engine and transmission design.
This car would intermittently stall out on the road. Typically at a low speed or while driving in the city. Performance was sluggish at highway speeds. Spent upwards of $1000 to diagnose the car because the dealer could not replicate. These issues were present at around 75k usually with the A/C on. However, as the problem progressed the stalling was worse and almost always had to put the car back in park and push to restart the engine... Throughout the entire time, NO CHECK ENGINE or other indicator light would illuminate to indicate a problem. The dealer did everything they could to deflect from stalling. Even going so far as to say I overfilled the gas tank or did not START the car properly "all the way"... After the warranty period I took the car in (had to get towed) I called Toyota corporate and a case was built with the dealer. After many times paying for an accurate diagnoses and leaving with no answer I finally had the master technician diagnose the issue as a bad torque converter in the transmission. So I am now looking at nearly $3000 to replace the torque converter and transmission with used parts. I am thoroughly at my end with this car. I've never owened at Toyota that had transmission issues at 100k. Totally disappointed and of course Toyota corporate not willing to help or issue a recall. Even when others have had their transmissions give out even sooner... This was supposed to be am economical automatic transmission. Worst car experience ever!
Design, fun to drive, transmission, fuel economyIt
It’s a bit underpowered although Sport Mode helps.
This car — a Mazda 2 that won car of the year in 2015 in Japan — is great fun to drive, it handles well and reminds some auto writers of a Miata. I tweaked mine with a sunroof, a K&N filter, and lower wider tires. I chose the 6 spd automatic and use it a lot as a manual. The gas mileage is great usually over 40 mpg on the highway. It’s the sedan version of the Mazda CX-3 as it’s on the same platform. Consumer Reports has named it best sub compact. I have had zero problems with it thus far. Drive one!
fun to drive, great price, gas mileage, reliable
power, small,
My scion is a fun car on a twisty road. Does not offer a lot of power but the great gas mileage and reliability are worth it. Mazda helped develop this car so it is sporty. I put low profile tires on mine (50 Series) and it is a little sports car on a twisty road. Low profile tires do make the speed o off a couple and you lose a couple of MPG, but if you enjoy driving a twisty road you will enjoy it. I have 52k and have not had a single problem with the car. You can still get a manual 6 speed so the transmission will never fail like auto and CVTs do after 150k.
