Positive Review
I bought this car 9 yrs ago for $8k it had 30k miles on it, I have put 200k miles on it and she is still going. I have only had to put money into it for normal wear and tear nothing major. I have heard horror stories about people having problems however I must be one of the lucky ones. I absolutely love this car!
Critical Review
I fell in love with this car when I seen it. After a few months, came the problems. After a few years, came the recalls. Besides ALL of the REACALLS, it was just a complete nightmare owning the Saturn Ion. Even with regular maintenance, there was always something going on under the hood. I spent at least, 6 grand in repairs, just to keep this car in running condition. So ridiculous! Worst car I've ever had!! Wish I would've done my research on this car before buying it from a lot.

Got this car 15 years ago with 26 000 miles now 222549miles . Still runs great regular maintenance. Will run it till she dies.
Reliable
Not very powerful
For a basic no frills sedan, this car is very reliable and good on mileage as I’ve gotten mine up to 300,000 miles! It’s not flashy but is a very solid commuter car.
What a great car. This was a family car, then it was my husbands work car. He has 301000 miles on it and would still be driving if a deer had not run into it. Was able to fix damage all but replacing side mirror and dented hood, so it was gifted to grandson, it is a great car for him to start out in. Sure wish they still made Saturn’s, because that would be all we own. My husband was faithful in doing oil changes every three months so there were no issues other than replacing brakes and new tires.
Good mileage. Good trunk space. No accidents.
Power-assist steering is out.
Only 35,000 miles. Never been in an accident. Clean interior. There's a problem with the power steering.
Reliable vehicle. Needs some exhaust work Everything works. No rust as body is composite material. Bought car used with 50,000 miles on it. Good 2nd car.
Good value and relatively bulletproof engine
Rusting tends to damage fuel lines and exhaust
This car with its 2.2L engine is pretty bulletproof but suffers from the same rusting issues as the cobalts of the same era, being very similar vehicles. The fuel lines and exhaust are at risk of rust damage leading to failures in both systems. If your buying one of these used, check the lines in front of the drivers side rear tire for corrosion and do the same for the exhaust manifold and other components in that vicinity. Solid used buy under 150K miles, after that point get the engine checked well
The Red Rocket has yet to fail me. She gets me from point A to point B in *style* ;) Definitely an eye-catcher in the car community. The only requirement necessary for operating is to make "Nascar sounds" when turning.
FUN TO DRIVE & GREAT GAS MILEAGE
Front End Steering Needs Work at 80,000 miles
What an amazing car! Great Gas Mileage, super reliable, fast and no repairs EVER! I am so glad these great cars are getting a cult like following as they certainly deserve it.
