With a low load-floor height, excellent payload capacity, and easy driving, the 2025 Ram ProMaster cargo van is ready for work or play. Pricing starts at $52,285.
The full-size cargo van segment caters to a wide variety of shoppers, so the combination of body styles, roof heights, and features is very important. The Ram ProMaster aims to please commercial-use customers with nearly 40 different configurations, best-in-class cargo volume with the Super High roof, and excellent payload capacity. In addition, the ProMaster has an impressive array of tech, including advanced safety features, the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, and an available 10.1-inch touchscreen. This is also the only front-wheel-drive full-size van on the market. The Chevrolet Express, Ford Transit, GMC Savana, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter are rear-wheel drive, and the Ford and Mercedes offer all-wheel drive.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of full-size vans, including the Ram ProMaster.
Following last year’s introduction of the ProMaster EV (reviewed separately) there are no major changes for 2025.
The 2025 Ram ProMaster Window Van has a starting sticker price of $52,285, with the range-topping ProMaster Window Van 3500 SLT+ High Roof Extended kicking off at $63,215.

With full-size cargo vans, there are so many different configurations that comparing prices to the competition can be tricky. However, comparing apples to apples, the Ford Transit Cargo Van costs more, and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is the most expensive in this class. The lowest-priced work vans are the older, more basic Chevy Express and GMC Savana.
Of the numerous configurations the ProMaster offers, the 2500 Tradesman Cargo Van with the High Roof on a 159-inch wheelbase is the most popular combination.
Before buying the Ram ProMaster, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should really pay. To date, the Ram ProMaster leads the full-size segment for retaining value down the road. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.
Ram offers only one engine for the ProMaster, a gas V6 that delivers more than adequate power with 276 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. That’s about average for the segment. It’s not exactly a speed demon, but it has enough power to get the job done. The ProMaster’s 9-speed automatic transmission delivers smooth shifts without fuss.
Though it’s a big van, the Ram ProMaster doesn’t feel all that cumbersome from behind the wheel. We think the ride comfort and maneuverability are much better than the more old-fashioned, truck-based, body-on-frame work vans of the past. (See GMC Savana and Chevy Express.) A work van at its core, the ProMaster is comfortable on the highway. It’s also more agile around city streets than you might expect, thanks to its best-in-class turning radius. We find it stable and easy to drive, partially because of the standard crosswind assist feature. The Ram isn’t quite as refined as the Transit or the Sprinter, but does a fine job overall.
The standard front-wheel-drive layout differentiates the ProMaster from everything else in this segment. Front-wheel drive offers an advantage over rear-wheel drive when you need traction in snow, gravel, or mud. We’d love to see the addition of an all-wheel-drive option to offer even more all-season capability.
The government doesn’t estimate fuel economy in this class of vans. While we don’t expect the numbers to be stellar for this work van, those who want to save on fuel could consider the ProMaster EV.
Practicality is the name of the game inside the Ram ProMaster. The sheer volume of this van is impressive, partially because of the front-wheel-drive configuration. In rear-drive vans, a driveshaft and rear differential take up some cargo space. With none of that hardware in the way, the cargo hold of the ProMaster is very space-efficient, and it’s easy to load and unload thanks to a low-load floor. In fact, the ProMaster is a class leader in cargo volume. Like any work van, customization is almost limitless. Whether you need a plumbing package, an HVAC package, or just about anything else you can think of, the ProMaster has you covered. Talk to your local dealer about the specific requirements of your business to get the appropriate setup.
We find the front seats are supportive and comfortable. The quality of the interior materials is about what you’d expect for a work van on the low end of the price range. If you want a work van that flirts with luxury, take a look at the upper trims of the Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. One thing that’s a little odd about the ProMaster is that the Window Van configuration does not add more seats as standard equipment. If you want a true passenger van, you must add the extra seats as an upfit. We recommend the Transit or Sprinter if your van needs to include multiple seats.
There are three basic configurations of the ProMaster: cargo van, window van, and cutaway. The cargo van is available in three wheelbases, four cargo lengths, and three roof heights. The window van is only available in the longest wheelbase with the high roof, and you have the pick of a 12- or 13-foot cargo length. All of this versatility is pretty common among full-size vans.
The cutaway model has a customizable ladder frame behind the cab with the back of the cab open. The cutaway is suitable for an upfit that you can walk into from the driver’s seat. The cutaway is a popular foundation for recreational vehicles. It’s available in two wheelbases and three cargo lengths.
Class-leading cargo volume
With its Super High roof option, the Ram ProMaster is the class leader in cargo volume, with an impressive 524 cubic feet and 86 inches of cargo height.
Front-wheel drive
The class-exclusive front-wheel-drive setup provides this van with solid all-weather traction and a huge cargo area with a low, flat load floor.
Uconnect infotainment
A user-friendly Uconnect 7-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay comes standard in the ProMaster. It’s upgradeable to a 10.1-inch touchscreen unit with navigation.
Driver assistance technology
The ProMaster is fairly generous with advanced safety tech features. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, crosswind assist, driver-attention alert, and traffic sign recognition come standard. Options include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and a surround-view camera.
Roll-up cargo door
An available roll-up cargo door is optional for the ProMaster if you prefer it over the traditional hinged cargo doors.
Capable V6
The ProMaster’s Pentastar V6 engine has a maximum towing capacity of 6,910 pounds and a class-leading payload capacity of 4,680 pounds.
Under the hood of every 2025 Ram ProMaster lies a 276-hp 3.6-liter V6 linked to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The ProMaster is the only van in its class with front-wheel drive; consequently, it has a vast, space-efficient cargo area with a low, flat load floor. The ProMaster can tow up to 6,910 pounds and has a best-in-class maximum payload rating of 4,680 pounds.
Most vans in this class have more engine options. For example, the Ford Transit has an available turbocharged V6, the Sprinter has two diesel choices, and the Chevy Express and GMC Savana have an optional V8.
The Ram ProMaster is backed by a bumper-to-bumper limited warranty for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. A 5-year/60,000-mile warranty covers the powertrain. This is typical coverage in this segment. Additionally, you get 5-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance service.
As is true within this class of full-size vans, neither the government through its NHTSA agency or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have safety or crash tested the ProMaster.
