The 2023 Ram ProMaster received a refresh this year, keeping it competitive in the full-size van segment. This work van has a refreshed front end, new wheel designs, and a couple of new paint options, including Spitfire Orange. More importantly, the ProMaster boasts best-in-class cargo volume thanks to the new Super High roof option, and it retains its crown for class-leading maximum payload capacity.
The main thing that sets the ProMaster apart from its competitors is its front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration. Every other van in this class has standard rear-wheel drive (RWD), and all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ford Transit. Its other main competitors are the more truck-like (and more affordable) Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.
2023 Ram ProMaster Window Van pricing starts at $41,628 for the ProMaster Window Van 2500 High Roof Van 3D, which had a starting MSRP of $52,345 when new. The range-topping 2023 ProMaster Window Van 3500 High Roof Extended Van 3D starts at $46,288 today, originally priced from $56,280.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2023 Ram ProMaster Window Van models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
The Ram ProMaster is a big van, but it doesn’t feel all that cumbersome from behind the wheel. The ride comfort and maneuverability are much better than the more old-fashioned, truck-based, body-on-frame work vans of the past.
The ProMaster is a work van that’s comfortable on the highway and more agile around city streets than you might expect, thanks to its best-in-class turning radius. It’s stable and easy to drive, partially because of the standard cross-wind assist feature.
The standard V6 engine delivers more-than-adequate power with 276 horsepower. It’s not exactly a speed demon, but it has enough grunt to get the job done. It’s linked to a 9-speed automatic transmission that delivers smooth shifts without fuss.
The standard FWD layout makes the ProMaster different from everything else in this segment. All-wheel drive would be nice, but FWD makes this a good van if you need traction in a snowy climate where RWD would be a challenge in winter.
Practicality is the name of the game inside the Ram ProMaster. The sheer volume of this van is impressive, partially because of the FWD configuration. A driveshaft and a rear differential take up some cargo space in a RWD van. With none of that hardware in the way, the cargo hold of the ProMaster is very space-efficient, and it’s easy to load and unload thanks to a low-load floor.
Like any work van, the customizability is almost limitless. Whether you need a plumbing package, an HVAC package, or just about anything else you can think of, the ProMaster has you covered. Talk to your local dealer about the specific needs of your business, and they’ll help you order the right setup.
The seats up front are supportive and comfortable. The quality of the interior materials is about what you’d expect for a work van on the low end of the price range. If you want a work van that flirts with luxury, take a look at the upper trims of the Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
One thing that’s a little odd about the ProMaster is that the window van configuration does not add more seats as standard equipment. If you want the ProMaster as a passenger van, you have to get the extra seats as an upfit. If you’re looking for a passenger van with many seats, the Transit or Sprinter might be a better fit.
The crew van option does come standard with three passenger seats in the second row plus a partition separating the cabin from the cargo area. There’s an open area under the back seats, so you can still haul long items up to about 13 feet long.
There are four basic configurations of the ProMaster: cargo van, window van, crew van, and cutaway. The cargo van and window van are self-explanatory. The cutaway model has a customizable ladder frame behind the cab with the back of the cab open. The cutaway is suitable for an upfit that you can walk into from the driver’s seat.
The cargo van is available in three wheelbases, four cargo lengths, and three roof heights. The window van is only available in the longest wheelbase with the high roof, and you choose a 12- or 13-foot cargo length. You can get the crew van with 6, 7, or 9 feet of cargo space behind the back seats. The cutaway is available in two wheelbases and three cargo lengths.
A midcycle refresh gives the ProMaster a facelift for 2023. It has new styling up front with improved headlights (and available LED headlights), plus new wheels and new paint options including Spitfire Orange.
Class-leading cargo volume
With the new Super High roof option, the Ram ProMaster is the class leader in cargo volume with an impressive figure of 520 cubic feet and 86 inches of cargo height.
Capable V6
The Pentastar V6 engine powering the ProMaster boasts a maximum towing capacity of 6,910 pounds and a class-leading 4,680-pound payload capacity.
Front-wheel drive
The class-exclusive FWD setup gives this van good all-weather traction and a huge cargo area with a low, flat load floor.
Uconnect infotainment systems
A user-friendly Uconnect 7-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay comes standard in the ProMaster. It’s upgradeable to a 10-inch unit with navigation.
Driver assistance technology
The ProMaster is quite generous with standard safety tech features, which is part of what makes this van a good value. Automatic emergency braking and drowsy driver detection come standard, and a few optional features include a digital rearview mirror, adaptive cruise control, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and more.
Roll-up cargo door
An available roll-up cargo door is a new option for the ProMaster if you prefer it over the traditional hinged cargo doors.
Under the hood of every 2023 Ram ProMaster lies a 3.6-liter V6 linked to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The ProMaster is the only van in its class with FWD. That makes it good in snowy climates and gives it a vast, space-efficient cargo area with a low, flat load floor. We wish AWD were optional, but FWD will work for most drivers.
The ProMaster can tow up to 6,910 pounds and has a best-in-class maximum payload rating of 4,680 pounds.
Most vans in this class have more variety under the hood. For example, the Ford Transit has an available turbocharged V6, the Sprinter has multiple diesel options, and the Chevy Express and GMC Savana have an optional V8.
