The Ram 1500 pickup enters 2022 with some revised trim levels and packaging differences but no major mechanical changes.
Most notable among the new editions is the Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition. Painted an exclusive Blue Shade and fitted with a multi-function tailgate, the Limited 10th Anniversary Edition is equipped with a cold-air intake, unique badging, 22-inch polished wheels, and a posh interior with quilted leather seats, a suede headliner, and a 19-speaker premium sound system.
Regarding the new Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition: In addition to it having a unique Ignition Orange exterior color, this off-road beast gets black 18-inch wheels, a spray-in bed liner, special graphics, and an interior featuring copperhead orange stitching, copper-colored carbon-fiber accents, a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, and all-weather slush mats featuring an orange Ram’s head logo.
There’s also a new Ram 1500 GT, available as a Laramie or a Rebel. This new Ram GT comes with a performance hood, a black grille, GT decals, and a cold-air intake. Inside, the GT gets high-bolstered bucket seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, aluminum paddle shifters, and metal pedal covers.
All told, the 2022 Ram 1500 is available in 14 models: Tradesman, HFE (High Fuel Economy), Big Horn, Lone Star, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Longhorn SouthFork, Limited 1500 (RED), Limited 10th Anniversary Edition, Limited, Back Country, TRX, and TRX Ignition.
The Quad Cab Ram 1500 is available one way, with a 6-foot 4-inch bed. If you order the roomier Crew Cab model, it comes with either a 5-foot, 7-inch bed or a 6-foot, 4-inch one.
There are four powertrain choices: a mild-hybrid eTorque 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, a turbodiesel 3.0-liter V6, a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 (with or without eTorque), and a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the TRX. The transmission for all models is an 8-speed automatic.
As before, the Ram 1500 profits from an independent rear suspension and available air suspension. This makes the Ram feel less like a big truck in everyday driving while improving smoothness and fuel economy.
Although the V6 and V8 benefit from the smoothness, power, and fuel economy of the mild-hybrid eTorque system, we’re eager to see how future Ram pickups will compete with the upcoming electric versions of the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Sierra.
2022 Ram 1500 Quad Cab pricing starts at $23,356 for the 1500 Quad Cab HFE Pickup 4D 6 1/3 ft, which had a starting MSRP of $40,622 when new. The range-topping 2022 1500 Quad Cab Rebel Pickup 4D 6 1/3 ft starts at $37,803 today, originally priced from $49,355.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2022 Ram 1500 Quad Cab models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
The 2022 Ram 1500 deserves praise for having a smooth ride, responsive steering, and good agility.
Much of the credit for the Ram 1500’s refined ride goes to the independent rear suspension, which employs coil springs instead of leaf springs. Powertrain sophistication is also enhanced by the eTorque system, which supplements the power delivery in a refined fashion and makes for smooth automatic restarts.
The interior of the 2022 Ram pickup is a definite highlight. The 5-seat cabin is quiet and tough but handsome. And on the Big Horn model and above, the impressive 12-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen draws most of the attention. There’s also a massive central storage bin that helps you keep valuables out of sight.
While both cab styles are spacious, the Crew Cab is 4 inches longer than the Quad Cab, which means it offers substantially more rear legroom.
The new Rebel and Laramie GT models get high-bolstered sport seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, while the new Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition comes with quilted leather seats (in Indigo and Sea Salt), a suede headliner, special badging on the center console, and a 19-speaker premium audio system.
Also worthy of mention is the interior of the Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition: In addition to embroidered TRX logos and copperhead orange stitching, the TRX Ignition interior features copper-colored carbon-fiber accents, a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof, orange tweeters, and even foul-weather floor mats that sport an orange Ram’s head logo.
The Ram 1500 has its own look. You’ll never mistake it for any other truck. It looks brawny but refined.
Some visual changes for 2022:
The Ram 1500 GT Laramie and Rebel models get a performance hood, a black grille, and GT decals.
The new Ram 1500 Back Country — available on the Big Horn and Lone Star models — get a body-color grille surround and 2-tone black paint, plus a tonneau cover, headlights, running boards, and mirrors also in black. The Back Country, because it’s equipped with the Off-Road Group, also comes with skidplates, tow hooks, and all-terrain tires.
As for the Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition, it’s distinguished by its exclusive Blue Shade paint, special badging, and 22-inch polished wheels.
Other colors available on the 2022 Ram 1500 include Delmonico Red Pearl, Flame Red, Harvest Sunrise, Olive Green, Patriot Blue Pearl, and several other metallic shades. Ignition Orange is exclusive to the new TRX Ignition model.
UCONNECT 5
Standard on the Ram 1500 Big Horn and above, the new Uconnect 5 system is four times faster than the previous system, and it has three times more memory. It also features Wi-Fi and tow-specific navigation. We’re big fans of Uconnect 5’s large 12-inch touchscreen, its large icons, its intuitive touch controls, and its simple menus.
TRAILER HITCH LIGHT
If you order the Trailer Tow Group on your 2022 Ram 1500 pickup, it now comes with LED lights that illuminate the trailer hitch area from above. It helps you see the hitch at night when you’re backing up and using the Ram’s electronic trailer reverse steering control, which features a knob that controls steering inputs.
Ram doesn’t offer a Regular Cab in this latest generation of its pickup. The Ram 1500 model range begins with the 4-door Quad Cab Tradesman. In addition to its eTorque V6 and 8-speed automatic transmission, it comes with 18-inch wheels, a 23-gallon gas tank, active grille shutters, coil-spring suspension, and trailer-sway control. Heated, power-adjustable side mirrors also are standard.
The new Ram 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition comes with unique blue paint and polished 22-inch alloy wheels, plus quilted leather upholstery, a suede headliner, a jeweled shifter knob, and a 19-speaker audio system.
The Tradesman, HFE, Big Horn, Lone Star, and Rebel all come with the eTorque 3.6-liter V6 standard. The 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is standard in the Laramie, Limited Longhorn, and Limited 10th Anniversary models. The eTorque version of the 5.7-liter V8 and the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 are optional in all 2022 Ram 1500 models except the HFE and the TRX.
Standard on all Ram 1500 models for 2022 is a new Ram Clean Air System that filters out 95% of airborne particulates. Ram says it’s effective at catching pollen, allergens, and bacteria.
One of the most significant options on the 2022 Ram 1500 is 4-corner air suspension, which replaces the traditional shock absorbers and progressive rate coil springs with active air chambers.
The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, with 480 lb-ft of torque at only 1,600 rpm, also deserves mention, as it’s optional on all Ram 1500s except the HFE and the TRX.
Also optional are a 33.0-gallon fuel tank (up from 23.0 or 26.0 gallons) and an Off-Road Group that includes an electronic locking rear differential, heavy-duty shock absorbers, hill-descent control, underbody skidplates, tow hooks, and all-terrain tires.
The 2022 Ram 1500 is powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 augmented by the 48-volt eTorque electric-assist system. This engine puts out 305 horsepower, which is good but pales in comparison to the 395-horsepower output of the 5.7-liter V8, which is available with or without eTorque.
The eTorque system, interestingly, doesn’t alter the official horsepower or torque ratings of the V8. In addition to improving fuel economy, eTorque creates super-smooth automatic restarts.
While the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 in the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel pumps out a 260 horsepower, it’s much more noteworthy for its 480 lb-ft of torque and superb EPA highway fuel economy of up to 33 mpg.
With a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 cranking out 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, the TRX is an off-road Hellcat of sorts, a rough-and-tumble pickup with superb long-travel suspension and a beefed-up 8-speed automatic transmission. The TRX hits 60 mph in only 4.5 seconds, and it likely can match that time on dirt.
The one downside to all that power? An EPA city fuel economy rating of only 10 mpg.
Also notable: The maximum payload for the 2022 Ram 1500 is 2,300 pounds. Max trailer weight is a substantial 12,750 pounds.

Six Standard Airbags
All 2022 Ram 1500 pickups have six standard airbags, providing frontal- and side-impact occupant protection. The front airbags have adaptive damping. In other words, they automatically adjust for the size of the person and the severity of the crash.
Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking
If the Ram 1500 senses a frontal impact, this system pre-charges the brakes and provides audible and visual warnings to the driver. If the driver doesn’t react, the Ram 1500 briefly taps its brakes as a warning. If the driver still doesn’t respond, max braking is applied automatically to bring the Ram 1500 to a stop as rapidly as possible.
Advanced Safety Group
This thorough safety package is standard on several trims. In addition to adaptive cruise control (with stop, go, and hold) and blind-spot monitoring (with trailer coverage), the Advanced Safety Group includes a lane-departure warning and a rear cross-traffic alert.
