Positive Review

"Everything I thought it would be."

Excellent auto -- only thing I added is a rear view camera which was installed by my mechanic. In 100,000 miles only problem was a snapped transmission shifter cable. It was replaced in a day.

VS

Critical Review

"do not use in rain"

rear windows get stuck when closing the top. The are always half open. Dealer told me to bring it in to lubricate the seals. This works only for about a week.

LOVE. It's a strong word, but appropriate..!
Pros

fast, beautiful

Cons

heavy

I own a 2008 911 Turbo since 2013. I absolutely love this car! It is stunning to look at -inside and out (mine came well optioned inside :-) but more that that, it is such a joy to drive... I'll keep this brief.. -I have taken my car to a few track days with the local Porsche club, which is really the place to go to figure out what this car is capable of. Also, when I drive crazy fast on a racetrack, I find it kind of gets it out of my system, so I am much more restrained on public roads. No speeding tickets to date! The only minus I would say about this car comes from my track experience and that is that the car is relatively heavy for going around corners fast (say compared to a GT3), but that's more of an observation than a compalint, and otherwise I LOVE my 911 Turbo. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it!

Fantastic, reliable car that's great on the track
Pros

Incredibly handling& fun to drive,

Cons

Too loud/rough/raw for many people, not calming

Porsches have been the most reliable cars I've ever owned. Had a Boxster that had 1 issue(air oil separator $70 part) covered under warranty, which was going perfectly until totaled by a back end hit while waiting at a light. Now have a GT3 - red line it daily, lots of autocross and high speed track sessions. 85,000 miles so far. Only problem ever has been a failed water hose at 35,000 miles. Do not test drive one unless you are prepared to but it, as no other car will ever feel quite as good, solid, and just right.

Blend of Classic and Modern
Pros

Classic Porsche styling in a reliable sports

Cons

Everything about it is pricey.

After owning many vehicles of which several were in the high performance category eg: BMW M5, Mercedes C32, Mercedes C63 Porsche 911..... I think that in able to make an experienced review. I purchased the 2008 997.1 Turbo TIPTRONIC in 2019 with appx 47k miles for $55k. Since then , I have spent an additional $7k on required maintenence. (Coolant pipes and lines, brakes and suspension and more) And $4k on accessories. The car is used fairly regularly on both the track as well as on roadtrips. There has been no issues or problems. I regularly get 25+mpg on long trips and 17mpg in San Francisco urban driving. The performance of this car is phenomenal. It's what been referred to as "sneaky fast". Because there is a very muted exhaust tone, one doesn't realize how fast your going. Without trying hard, you can find yourself driving 80 in mere seconds. It's not a quiet car. It's a sportscar. It buzzes at idle. There is considerable road noise. Yet, not much wind noise because of its sleek profile. Yes, there is a muted exhaust tone which is not a bad thing if you drive the car long distances. But when you want you open her up with full throttle, you will get pushed into your seat in semi-silence. Not Tesla silence. As there is some authentic Turbo spooling. (I added a Fabspeed exhaust which gives it a little more growl) It's handling is impressive but heavy. After all, it is AWD and those components weight the car down. On my first track event with this car I ran it stock with its original suspension. The next time, with Bilstein Coilovers, DSC Controller, Eibach swaybars, WEVO motor mounts and Goodyear F1 Supercar series..... I dropped my lap times by 12 seconds. There is lots of room for suspension tuning. Fun! The car is fun to drive. Eveb through it's a Tiptronic transmission. On faster roads at 60+mph. Just leave the car in 3rd and you're good! And if you use the Sport Mode, the engine management learns the driving habits of the moment and down shifts really well to keep the car in its powerband for sharp corners. I also drive a track specific Miata. The 997 Turbo is not Miata agile. The Miata is more fun in <60 speeds. The Miata will do donuts easier that the AWD 997. Comparisons. The Tiptronic transmission is not as good as the current generation PDK. But the first generation PDK has issues. Serious issues. The Porsche TIP is bulletproof! It will not blow up. It may be slightly slow compared to MODERN transmissions but it was the best of its era. And that says a lot about the car. Value. I bought my Turbo Tiptronic at a bargain price. Yes, a manual would have been a good choice too. But, i have a manual Miata. And the price for a Tiptronic 911 Turbo was too inviting. Purchase Tips. Negotiate on the Tiptronic because you can. It's easily 10% cheaper than a manual. Service history is important. Especially for the coolant line service which is a "drop the motor" job. The Mezger motored Turbo is as good as it gets. Find something with service history and no accidents. *25 years of HPDE experience. Former racing licensed.

Therapy on Wheels
Pros

Beauty and Power

Cons

None I can find

The prefect antidote to a bad day, and the perfect reward for a good one. Just starting it up let’s you enjoy the intoxicating sound of power. I had a Boxster as my first Porsche and it was wonderful so when this one owner 997C4S came up I tried to convince myself that i didn’t need it, I was happy. But then I gave in and drove it. Lights out! Then I was haunted that if I don’t do this I never will. That was 4 years ago and no regrets. The bonus is the people I have meet are just amazing and passionate about so many things. Simply they just love life, so fun. No couch necessary.

Best Porsche 911 Since 1998
Pros

Essence of a Porsche 911 -- uncompromising & pure

Cons

None

For the full 911 experience, it is hard to beat the 2009 Porsche 911, it is the essence of what it means to own a 911. The Carrera model is the best example of an unfiltered, highly engineered, you control sports car. I've own mine for 5 years now and have loved every minute of it. I makes driving fun and rewarding.

Best sports car on the market
Pros

Performance of S model

Cons

Cargo space

I haven driven this vehicle extensively over last several years. Two cross country trips, and several 1,000 mile long weekend trips. Not only does the car drive like it is on rails, the PASM makes the car suspension match the road you are driving. Beautiful engineering.
