What Owners are Saying About the 2003 Pontiac Aztek
"The best 'Worst' Car I ever bought."
"I came to love the Aztek late in the life of an Aztek. On a whim, I bought a $1300 well-used bright-yellow Aztek as a temporary vehicle May, 2017. I only planned on driving a few months, then dump it. Within a few months I absolutely fell in love with the ugly-duckling, much maligned people mover. With all the seats in, carries 5 with no problems. With rear seats removed can handle everything I need from the lumber yard. Visibility is great, driving position is super. There's nothing flashy about this car. It's super slow, the styling is odd and people ridicule me for driving it. I get 23mpg on the highway! I have a tailgate I can sit on, drives like glass and it's one of the best dang drivin-movie cars ever! But after 2.5 years and practically NO MAINTENANCE I'm the one laughing. What work I had to do was easy. Sure it has some mechanical quirks, but after 18 years and a quarter-million miles, what vehicle doesn't? The transmission is gimpy, I have a couple of electrical issues I have to deal with and I'll have to park the 'Aztek Warrior' soon. But I will NEVER give it up! Ever."
"Long-lasting, tough little car, great deal"
"We bought this car new in 2003 for 16K. It now has 218,000 miles on it and it is still going pretty strong. When I compare it to newer vehicles, it has a heavier body. It seems more solid. I like the plastic molding as it does not rust. It gets about 21 mpg. It handles very well in winter (snow/ice) with front wheel drive and sits high off the ground. The heavier front end helps with winter driving and vehicle control. Engine components, battery and headlamps are difficult to get to as the hood compartment is compact. We even had a trailer package installed aftermarket and use it to tow small trailers, jet skis, etc. We keep it maintained and have had to change out some things here and there, but as long as it keeps running I think we'll hold on to it. It still looks good for its age. A few things like if a lamp goes out on just part of the dash, you have to replace the whole module. It don't like that. Other than a few minor issues that don't affect performance, it's held up very well. We have a manufacturers sunroof and have had leakage issues for years now, but we found a remedy. I'll never have another car with a sunroof, but I can't give this one up until it's had enough."
"16 year love affair."
"Had my 2002 Aztec for 16 great years. Always did what I asked of it and never complained. Don't care what the haters say, but the Aztec was ahead of its time. Things that were standard on it are now "cool" new options. It was the little things, tailgate had seats and cup holders, stereo controls in the rear compartment. carpet and seats held up great, lots of tie down points for securing cargo. I could go on and on. If they still made them I would have gotten a new one without a second thought. This was an emotional parting of the ways, am sorry to see her go. She took us through 16 years safely and handed all those Michigan winters without a whimper. Long live the Aztec!"
