The Polestar 5 is the Swedish EV brand’s upcoming performance sedan based on the Precept concept. We expect pricing to start at around $100,000.

The Polestar Precept concept car first bowed at the Geneva Auto Show in 2020 as another potential rival to the illustrious Tesla Model S. Now the Precept has been confirmed for production under the name Polestar 5. In Polestar’s words, it’s the brand’s “ambition to launch this car in 2024.” The Polestar 5 will be a high-tech, all-electric grand touring sedan with a sleek liftback design. It will compete directly with the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, Lucid Air, and the aforementioned Tesla Model S for electric 4-door supercar supremacy.

We don’t know much about the Polestar 5. However, we can speculate based on the Precept concept that the production model is based on. The concept used a Google-based 15-inch infotainment system and a 12.5-inch digital gauge cluster. We wouldn’t be surprised to see a very similar setup in the production car. As for the powertrain, a Polestar 5 prototype that was previewed at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed produced 872 horsepower and 661 lb-ft of torque with its dual-motor powertrain. Here’s hoping the production model has a similar output.

The Polestar Precept emphasized sustainability not only with its electric powertrain but with the materials the concept is made of. It used flax-based composites for the seatbacks, reclaimed fishing nets for the carpets, and 3D-knitted recycled bottles for the seating surfaces. It’s unlikely that all of the creative eco-friendly materials in the concept will be in the production model of the Polestar 5, but sustainability will probably still be at the forefront.

Polestar 5 Pricing

We expect the starting price of the 2024 Polestar 5 to be around the $100,000 mark. If there’s a high-performance model, it could go up to around $125,000. Expect the Polestar 5 to be in a similar price range as the sportier variants of the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, and Lucid Air.

A more affordable alternative to the Polestar 5 is the Polestar 2, which is more competitive with the Tesla Model 3. The Polestar 2 starts at about $50,000 and tops out at around $65,000.
