Positive Review

"I will never sell this car!"

This car is amazing. I have over 100,000 miles on it and hope to get another 100 thousand. I have hardly put any money into it. The gas mileage is very acceptable. There is not a drop of rust on it, for being 14 years old. My only complaint is the cup holder that is located behind the gear shifter. You have to put the car in drive to be able to access it, but who really cares? The other cup holder works fine, we only use the unaccessible one when there are two people in the car with drinks, which is super rare. I have a few people asking me to sell this car to them because it looks so nice. For 14 years old, it fits right in with the newer cars and doesn't look old fashioned, nor does it look worn and torn. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this car and wish Oldsmobile didn't go out of business.

"Cheaply made, Known for wheel bearing issues"

I got my alero about 5 years ago with about 130K miles on it. At the time I got it, I had to replace the wheel bearings, rotors and new brakes on it. That wasn't that bad because that was all that needed to be done to it since I got it at an auction. HOWEVER, every year I spent $1000+ on it due to the same braking issues. I replaced my wheel bearings almost every year. The ABS was/has always been a problem for me on this. The ride quality is bearable on this car but you can tell this car is cheaply built. On the lighter side, I have never had engine or transmission problems other than having to replace the valve cover gaskets and an ignition coil. I have had to replace tie rods and put new struts on but that is understandable since I have well over 200k miles on my car currently. You will run into a lot of electrical issues with this car and rust is definitely common with aleros (that's if you live predominately up north with alot of snow). Besides the braking and electrical issues on this car, it can last a fair amount of time. I do all my oil changes myself and other routine maintenance. I use full synthetic oil and I noticed immediately how much of a difference the car runs, performs, and lasts if use that type of oil. Other than that this car is ok. It would be worth the money if not for the main issues stated before.

I name my cars, my Alero is Loretta

Loretta is a 2003 Olsmobile Alero. Only had an issue with the fuel line near gas tank. Had a reliable mechanic who figured out issue after several mechanics tried to figure out stalling issues. Had Loretta for 20 years and she's been a really great car. Minor issues with turn signal lever and fuel line issue. I have the 4 cyl. she purs like a kitten and moves fairly quickly through town. So 0-50 a quick little car. Over the years the higher speeds have struggled, so with the engine of 220,000 miles I try not to drive her at highway speeds for too long. Still dependable, but Like anything it's harder for her to perform like other cars with lower miles on engine. Highly recommend, decent gas mileage lower to mid 20's for gas mileage depending on your foot. God Bless all and safe travels.

Best car I have purchased.
Pros

It keeps going, going, going, and going.

Cons

It's difficult finding parts.

My 2004 Oldsmobile runs like a charm, but my problem is is that I am looking for a motor, 4 cylinder, 2.2, without a EGR port. I have a cracked block. I don't know where I can find a motor. But my car still starts up, and is ready to take off, but can't go far, because it over heats very quickly.

2004 Oldsmobile Alero
Pros

Extremely reliable with maintenance e

Cons

Cold start clatter

My 2004 Oldsmobile Alero had all of the usual recalls done. It has served me in reliability for many road trips. This car is a highway tank. I go state to state to state, and it does perfect. It handles extremely well. I have always makntenced my Alero meticulously, including Transmission filter and fluid change every 35,000 miles. I change my oil using and a synthetic blend Pennzoil High Mileage and a K&N oil filter every 3,000 miles. My Alero experiences that GM cold start clatter, but it quickly goes away and it in no way has effected the vehicle. The car is faster than you would expect, and it looks pretty decent for being a “grandpa” car. 10/10

Why tho?
Pros

Comfortable, sporty, fun

Cons

Reliability, mpg, too low

I had the 4 door 6 cylinder GLS w sun and sound package. First week of having one there was fluid on the ground. The break line had literally rusted through. $600 right off the bat! I also had other issues but won’t get into that ranting. I’d like to choke whoever thought putting the cup holder in the way of the climate controls was cute. It was also tough in my knees to get in and out of as I’m 5-10” and the car is so low. Otherwise, it was a sexy styled car very powerful engine (145hp), I loved the sunroof and cargo space. I’m not mad about the car but it’s very expensive to maintain and you will be spending a lot. If you want a fun car then yeah, why not? But if u want something reliable get a Corolla.
