The P2714 transmission code is one of the generic diagnostic trouble codes that refer to an issue with your car’s pressure solenoids for your transmission. These pressure solenoids distribute automatic transmission fluid and help regulate hydraulic pressure throughout your entire transmission. The transmission solenoid receives input from the Powertrain Control Module (your car’s computer) to adjust the fluid level the hydraulic circuits receive to switch gears. In other words, it makes shifting gears easier and faster when needed.
The P2714 code is as follows: Pressure Control Solenoid “D” Performance/Stuck Off – The pressure control solenoid “D” is not working or is stuck in the “off” position.
Please remember that not all car manufacturers will use code P2714 or similar codes. The most common manufacturers to use this code are as follows:
Some service centers will give you an online estimate to compare. Why drive around Town!?
The P2714 OBD-II trouble code shares similar symptoms with the other pressure control solenoid trouble codes. These symptoms can include the check engine light on, the vehicle going into limp mode, harsh, delayed, or even erratic gear changes, transmission slipping, worsening fuel economy, engine stalling, engine misfire, or your vehicle taking more power to move.
The P2714 code can be caused by low or dirty transmission fluid, faulty wiring, defective transmission pump, defective transmission valve body, faulty or damaged transmission pressure control solenoid “D,” clogged transmission filter, electrical issues or wiring issues, or an open or shorted line pressure solenoid “D” harness.
This code should not be taken lightly. Though the symptoms might not be all that bad now, they can quickly progress to severe issues later. Your car may also enter limp mode, reducing the effectiveness of your air conditioning, radio, and overall performance. For instance, you may need to press harder on the accelerator to move from a complete stop.
You can still technically drive with this code activated, but not very long. Smooth transmission operation is a must to stay safe when driving. If you continue to ignore these codes, this can result in your transmission overheating or needing total replacement altogether.
This code’s symptoms and causes tend to be quite similar to one another. You’ll know when you face a bad shift issue with your pressure control solenoid “D” if you notice your transmission fluid levels are low or if there’s an issue with the wiring.
Please note that the amount of fluid pressure necessary to even out the transmission gear ratio needed to smoothly shift gears will vary by that manufacturer’s transmission design. A generic transmission repair forum might give advice best suited for other transmission models that don’t fit your car’s model. Leave all complicated faulty transmission pump or solenoid repairs to an auto repair shop expert.
If you inspect your transmission, you may notice obvious defects in the transmission pump, the solenoid, and wiring, or the transmission itself. You can also check the hydraulic fluid for contamination if you are a skilled DIYer. Typically, a solenoid replacement, pump replacement, or wiring fix will work. That repair should be left to your local repair shop.
These experts will be able to conduct a thorough troubleshooting process to determine exactly what is wrong with your transmission and complete the repair steps needed to fix your transmission line pressure for good.
The P2714 code reflects some internal transmission failure, which can impact your engine overall. It’s best to leave any advanced steps for repair to a repair shop in your area.
