The P2112 code indicates an issue where the throttle actuator control system is unable to open; it is a sibling code to the P2111 code, which indicates that it is unable to close. This system is all about the throttle motor, which moves the throttle plate, so the powertrain control module (PCM) can tell it to open or close to add more or less air into the engine, depending on the user’s needs. If it’s unable to adjust entirely and can only stay closed, then air can’t get into the engine at all, which means that the vehicle will be unable to run.
More About the P2112 Code
One of the most critical components of any engine is its ability to control the amount of air that moves through it. You’ll find dozens of sensors throughout the engine that are focused on understanding the air/fuel ratio in the engine, with many more that then work to change how much air and fuel are present within the system. If the throttle is completely stuck closed and unable to move, only a small amount of air can go through the engine, enough to regulate the idle. In this case, the vehicle will probably start, but will be unable to accelerate.
Some service centers will give you an online estimate to compare. Why drive around Town!?
A no-start code is very common for a P2112 code if the code is accurately indicating that the throttle cannot close. If the throttle can close and there is just an issue with the sensors that indicate the throttle position, then you’re more likely to see smaller problems, like just a check engine light. Generally reduced engine performance may also be a problem, as well as excessive fuel consumption.
Issues with the throttle body assembly or motor, including a malfunctioning or faulty motor, are very common for the P2112 code. Position sensors, throttle plates, and linkages being faulty are also possible, meaning that you may have to check a number of different elements within your P2112 code before you can tell what the problem is. Finally, in some rare cases, the PCM may malfunction or may entirely fail.
The P2112 code is generally very serious. Not only can it cause a no-start condition, but it can also create issues within the vehicle over a period of time. The longer you wait to address the P2112 code, the more likely it is to cause serious problems, which can be more expensive and more difficult to handle. Assume that this is one of the more serious vehicle codes out there.
If your vehicle has a no-start condition, then you won’t be able to drive with the P2112 code. In some cases, you may be able to drive with this code, but it’s still not a good idea; you never know when the code will turn into a no-start condition, and even if it doesn’t leave you stranded, you may still be wasting fuel and causing overall damage to the engine. It’s best to get this code checked out as soon as possible.

Just like diagnosis, it can be very difficult to inspect the P2112 code. Because the throttle can be such a touchy area, creating problems if inspected improperly and potentially even being dangerous, it’s important to get an expert to inspect the area of the P2112 code if you’re not used to it. Don’t rely on your own knowledge. Instead, talk to an expert about this process.
For most people, the P2112 code is not one that a DIYer or hobbyist can handle. It’s a complicated code that says very little about the actual problem, and many DIYers don’t have the experience necessary with cars to tackle this problem effectively. The good news is that an expert will be able to handle this problem, and if you see the code, you can get help from many sources.
First, find a repair shop in your area. Because this code causes serious problems with the way your vehicle drives, it’s best to find a local repair shop that you can visit as soon as possible; this also helps you reduce the cost necessary if you need to tow your car in.
It’s very common for this code to come with other codes as well. If you see other codes, then check out the KBB OBD-II database to learn more about whatever codes are appearing in your engine.
All recalls are considered serious. Stay safe. Take care of any recalls ASAP. The good news? Recall repairs are free when performed at a local dealer.
