When a P0758 code appears in automatic transmission vehicles, it means that there is a disparity between the actual gear set by the transmission from the gear that the powertrain control module (PCM) expects it to be.

Shift solenoid B allows the transmission to shift between 2nd and 3rd gear. When the powertrain control module (PCM) records code P0758, it indicates that the PCM is unable to detect the proper change in engine speed or increase in ground speed that should occur during a 2nd to 3rd gear shift. The PCM/TCM reports a solenoid problem when these sensors do not report what the PCM/TCM expects when turning the solenoid on or off.
Solenoid B is responsible for the shift between the second and third gear. If code P0758 is displayed on the scanner, then it means that the PCM cannot detect a proper speed increase after shifting from second to third gear.
A shift solenoid circuit allows the PCM to monitor changes in the transmission gear ratio. This optimizes the performance of the engine using the lowest RPM possible. Automatic transmissions depend on bands and clutches to shift gears through a series of properly timed fluid pressure changes.
